Question What do you think Riot will do with Ryze in the next season?

• Upvotes

It seems reasonably obvious to me that actualizer will be leaving us so what do you think Ryze’s power will be like in the coming year? Do you think we will get the riot special where they remove the item we’ve been balanced around for the past year and we won’t see any buffs for months, maybe even the whole season depending on pro, and the champ languishes?

Why is everyone going Doran's ring? Why not sapphire crystal with refillable/4 pots?

Other Builds Jungle

Hello, Ryze mains. I am a jungle player who likes to experiment with off meta picks and what not. I have come up with my own setups for off meta picks like Tahm kench, Ornn, gangplank, and other champions. Some have worked better than others. But I am trying to find a way to make Ryze jungle playable. I’ve tried rushing liandry’s or blackfire torch, and been experimenting with runes like fleet footwork, but haven’t found much success. So I wanted to ask the Ryze mains themselves if anyone here has managed to make Ryze jungle playable? If so, I’d love to hear about it and your build and rune setup.

Math Can't wait for the nerfs

I'm sure this buff is just to give us hope, only for Riot to nerf him again and make him even worse than he was before the previous nerfs.

I played this games before.

Ryze buffs revealed

Q dmg is nerfed even more before 6, which is rly bad, but some other nerfs were reverted and scaling overall is much stronger. The movespeed buff is really nice too.

Rework increase Mana costs on ults/add cost to items change suggestion.

At this point it may sound weird when we in 3 months away from s17, but why is it for example:

  • most Ults mana cost doesn't grow with lvls i feel like it would be some limiting factor for some really op ones (with 1 mana item mages get to 2800 mana minimum, so add some cost for ults/item will not be that heavy on mana, in early game at most)? manaless champs ofc stay same but:
  1. Tanks/bruisers/duelists/mid range mages ults could go to ~100/150/200 mana cost.
  2. Long range mages/oppressive ults like syndra/veigar/xerath/velkoz/semi global/global ults could go to 100/200/300 or 150/300/450 mana cost depending on ability.
  3. Ryze ult rework idea i had 6+ months ago is we make his ult free but it cost mana based on number of units he Teleport, so minions/monsters/champion small summons cost 10/15/20 mana per unit, champions/Maiden/Tibers/Daisy cost 50/75/100 per unit (to add use for his giant mana pool).
  • Also for items i feel like it would be interesting to add at this point some mana/hp for mana less champions as cost to them:
  1. Some op active items like Hextech Rocket belt/Zhonya"s hourglass could get heavy 150 mana cost/10% max hp for mana less champions as cost to use them to reflect their power (or any new active items devs might add or if game in s17 try to add more variety for active items).
  2. Banshee's Veil/Edge of Night when item not on cd consume 75 mana/50 hp for mana less champs to create a shield but we buff spell shield cd from 40 seconds > 30 seconds and allow cd to tick down during combat.
  3. all Tiamat upgades/Locket of the Iron Solari cost cost 75 mana/50 hp for mana less champs.
  4. Youmuu's Ghostblade/Hextech Gunblade cost 40 mana/25 hp for mana less champs. What do you think? 👀

Revert ryze ult to a steroid?

I wonder now that macro plays are more valuable in proplay if they revert his R to a steroid they can balance him better for soloq and bridge the gap between proplay and soloq. Maybe he could even get his shield back

Wow, it’s been a week, huh? Mr3.5, aka Vonnyfish, is so happy seeing all these people crying Ryze nerfs. 😭 I used to be one of them until I switched from Ryze to ASol. Best decision so far.

Now I’m just eating my food, and for some reason, it tastes extra delicious while I’m reading posts from people crying about Ryze keep getting nerfed. Damn, I wanna lick those tears. They taste majestic. 😭💀

Please, suffer some more for me. You guys are really loyal to Ryze, huh? Keep suffering in low elo, losers. 😭💀

Problem solving post nerf

I'm a huge ryze enjoyer and ofc it feels so fkn shitty to see ryze pushing below 45% wr in soloq. Personally I think ryze is unbalanceable until they remove actualizer and do some kind of rework to his kit. None of that will happen until next year at the earliest so until then I wanted to start a discussion on adaptations we can make to cope and make ryze semi-playable.

There are 3 facets to this round of ryze nerfs:

  1. E mana cost

You now run oom before you can pressure anybody out of early lane, so I think we go back to playing pve on first round of lane, going for e bounces for manaflow, and setting up crash on 3rd wave to base for tear.

You could look for angles to just start tear/crystal, but I've never been a fan of that and you will have less AP which is more important now for waveclear.

  1. Overload dmg in combat

Imo this is the least significant aspect of the nerfs. It might seem important, but especially post actualizer, you nuke ppl so hard that you were usually overkilling them.. raw dmg was never ryzes problem. You will feel it during lane phase, but kind of like the e nerfs we just won't be able to pressure as hard. Your trading is still okay but you cannot brute force as much as before. It might be worth dropping dft in more games for stormraider or conq (maybe?) for more scaling

I do think this locks ryzes build even more than it was already. You def have to go raba 4th, and unless you absolutely need zhonya, you should get void staff as well (even if enemy doesn't buy Mr it is a huge dmg increase). It used to be nice to go for fimbulwinter or frozen heart as tempo buys after seraph or actualizer but there's not as much room for that anymore

  1. Overload dmg in wave clear

This is the killer. I haven't done the math on all the breakpoints but it basically takes an extra auto or extra eq at all stages compared to before. This is just fkn terrible for how ryze needs to play.

Ryze now NEEDS early game ap. So, let's brainstorm

Move speed shard is dead imo, adaptive is a must

Adaptive>attack speed shard may be worth, especially since they nerfed ryze AD a few patches ago (weaving a lot of autos into trades less valuable). It will be harder to farm without attack speed early, but if it gets you to breakpoint of killing waves with spells quicker, then worth

Celerity is still probably better than absolute focus. Absolute focus is lowk just a shit rune and in most mid matchups you're gonna get poked out of it and get 0 value, so I don't think this is a good source of AP for us

Sitting on tear, catalyst, boots with no bonus AP is so much worse

Dark seal should be bought every game now imo. If you can sneak some stacks onto it early on, it's gonna help you a ton.

Jack of all trades could be a thing, but it's not that easy to activate. Easiest way is probably tier 1 boots and a mote to turn into ionians later. May be worth it.

Even though early boots is really good for ryze, you could go magical footwear so that you can get your blasting wand quicker and get your roa stacking ASAP.

That's about all I can think of. I hope people can share what's working for them. I think part of being a ryze main has always been figuring out how to make him work and suffering a bit in the process. Stick to the plan ✌️

Rework Why don't they just rework him?

It doesn't even have to be complicated. Let me show you.

Why is he the best mid champ after Cass in pro play now(or for 3 years)? Because he's a scaling champion but has literally the fastest wave clear in mid lane and an early-game influence with roaming even stronger than Twisted Fate.

However, are those his core identities as a champion? Hell, NO. He's a battlemage strong at AoE DPS. He's gotta be good at teamfights or split pushing, but not roaming or macro.

Then just rever his wave clear system back to 2019. EEQ to clear the waves. No EQ on minions anymore.

And just change his ult to anything simple. If you can't give up the teleoprt ult, then at least delete all the utilites it has that can be only used in pro play. No ally teleportaion anymore. Nerf the range to like 500~1000 so that he can't roam. But instead reduce the channelling time to 1~1.5 sec so that he can use the ult as some sort of mobility skill or something.

I mean it's not that difficult to fix his problems Riot. Just stop being so stubborn about his roamer identity, Riot.

Remove actualizer

Lowkey when Ryze was 44% wr he felt stronger to me. I miss going roa seraph into rabadon, the build was so much smoother back then, with actual options for 4th and 5th item. Nowadays going anything beside raba 4th i feel so useless, not to mention the item isnt even bis in many games. Just remove this stupid ass item, buff the champ and I will be happy

EDIT: Also just nerf dft and buff ryze more, the rune is so shit on top but top ryze still gets punished for it

Another nerf to Ryze... seriously?

ve been playing Ryze for years and I swear every time I finally start enjoying him, Riot finds another reason to hit him

The ult passive going from 25/50/75/100% to 15/40/65/90% honestly hurts. A big part of why I keep playing Ryze is that feeling later in the game when you've got your items, enough mana and you can finally start deleting people. That's basically the part of the game I enjoy most about him.

And then there's the E mana cost going up by 5. I know 5 doesn't sound like much, but on Ryze early game it really does matter. Before Tear, I'm already constantly watching my mana. I usually just want to farm, get through the first few waves, recall for Tear and get back for the cannon wave. There's barely any mana left if I actually want to trade.

So now it feels like I'm just supposed to sit there, last hit and pray nobody forces a fight before I get Tear.

I know the usual answer is "pro play", and yeah, I understand why Riot looks at Ryze differently because of pro. But as someone who just plays him in solo queue, it's honestly getting frustrating. He's already not exactly the easiest champ to climb with, and now I'm losing more of the late-game payoff too.

Maybe I'm just salty because I had a terrible Ryze game before writing this lol, but I've genuinely loved this champ for years. I don't want him to be broken. I just want him to actually feel rewarding again.

Think I'm going play Viktor for a while and leave Ryze alone until Riot remembers he exists.

Give the blue man some love please
