Banter/Fun Have you ever read a negative Goodreads review that made you want to read the book even more?

I read this 2-star review for {Naked In Death by JD Robb} and immediately went to download it on Libby (it’s fabulous by the way) 😂 I’d love to know if this has happened to anyone else and see the reviews that made you want to read a book!

Gush/Rave 😍 A surprising enemies-to-lovers masterpiece {In Love and War by Kyra Parsi}

I went into this book expecting good things after loving her {Bad Billionaire Bosses Series by Kyra Parsi} but was truly blown away by this gem! As someone recently bored with the tropes that used to excite me, this was a great find. A perfectly executed enemies to lovers, with a true reason for their animosity that I could get behind, true dislike of each other as the plot developed, and the kind of switch from enemies to lovers that has you kicking your feet! I think I smiled through the majority of this book, teared up several times, and even let out a “no fucking way” that scared my child trying to watch Ms. Rachel. (Please don’t repeat mommy’s language!) Amelia and Zackary were both so endearing and had character development that warmed my cynical heart. The side characters were compelling and added a lot to the story. Overall a wonderful little story that reminded my why I love reading so damn much.

Plot:
Our FMC and MMC meet when she is 17 and he is in his 20s (don’t worry there is zero interest on his end, she’s dorky with braces, and he’s laser-focused on his career). Things go so poorly she dedicates her life to revenge with the passion only a teenager can muster. They go their separate ways and our story gets going seven years later. What starts with a lot of assumptions about each other, which I thought would become tedious, turns into the groundwork for amazing tension and banter. I’m still not sure how she put so much story in 233 pages but it felt like a much longer book in the best way. So many books use sex to develop a relationship, but we really get to witness the foundation of love form between these two.

Tropes:
- enemies to lovers
- workplace romance
- open door explicit
- revenge
- forced proximity
- forbidden relationship

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Discussion Why do romance series usually follow male groups?

I love a good romance series that follows a particular group and each book shows a different member falling in love. But one thing I realized is that the groups are always males, at least all the ones I come across. It’s never a girl group each finding their partners. Why do we think that is? We always get the guys all meeting up together and giving the next MMC advice. The girl night equivalent would be just as good. Does anyone else feel the same or am I just in the wrong book section?

I will admit that I enjoy sport romances so male teammates make sense. But there are women sports too! And if it’s not a sports team, it’s a family of brothers.

Edit: thank you for all of the recs! I will be checking them out. I wasn’t implying that no female group series exist, just that I found them to be mostly male groups. And i’m not mad about it! Just observed and was curious about others thoughts But I see you all are saying I need to put down the sports and pick up the historical fiction!

Also, just to clarify, the books I am referring to are still dual POV. FMC is a main character. there is just a new FMC each book and we meet all of the MMCs in book one. Think Off Campus series

There were a lot of great comments about how a new FMC coming into an established world (that the guys are a part of) is a great device to bring the reader into the book. Also knowing that a majority of the book audience is female causes influence. Thank you for all the comments and discussion!

Discussion Why can’t I exclude tags on romance.io 😭

To the developers of romance.io - I am obsessed and use your site literally multiple times a day. However i do not understand why i can only “exclude” tags (cross them out) on the find books feature. I need to be able to exclude tags when I’m browsing my own TBR bookshelf!! Or even when I’m browsing a specific author’s bibliography.
If anyone has a workaround I’d love to hear it

(while we’re at it I’d also love a single POV tag but I digress)

Book Request Mmc is a politician. secret relationship, power imbalance, and “she’s not good for his public image” angst.

The MMC is powerful, famous, or politically important, while the FMC is an ordinary woman. They hide their relationship because his team, family, or public image demands that he be seen with someone more suitable. The heartbreaking part is that he loves her privately, but the world doesn’t know she exists.

The fmc really tried her best to be understanding and patient.

Bonus part if there is a breakup scene between them.

CR only please.

Gush/Rave 😍 Loved A Game of Cat and Witch by Ruby Rune

So someone posted a small blurb about this book and I just had to read it. A witch needs a familiar or she'll fail out of witch school, so she tries a forbidden spell and accidentally binds a cat shifter. With an idea like that I figured even if the book was terrible I'd enjoy it. It was not terrible.

The author was a little heavy handed with some of her hints but otherwise I loved it. The witch is from a high ranking family and her mom runs the school. Between that pressure and the death of her father she hasn't been able to summon a familiar, despite doing really well on all her knowledge tests. So her third year is ending with still no familiar when she finds an ancient spell book with forbidden magic and figures it's better to use forbidden magic than be kicked out and have no future.

The shifter is an enforcer, who kills witches who break the law. His father is also dead, killed by a witch when he was a child. Did I mention the witches and shifters are currently in a cold war? Yeah, this is an enemies to lovers book.

The witch doesn't immediately realize he's a shifter but when she does they realize they have to work together to get themselves out of the situation they find themselves in, with a bond that the shift finds uncomfortably similar to a mate bond. Add in the fact they are being played with by a goddess, who has her own agenda, and family secrets that will tear the family apart, not to mention turn the war from cold to hot, and this book was amazing.

Also, for those who want to know they play with a lot of kinks, including shadow tentacles, bondage, and chase just to name a few. I liked that they didn't fixate on anything, it made the scenes more about them and less about the kink.

My only real complaint is that now I have to wait for the sequel to find out what happens next. The mcs did receive their happy for now, but the world around them is in shambles. Does anyone know when to expect the sequel?

Book Request FMC makes the first move or tells MMC that she likes him only to face rejection.

I’m looking for recs wherein the FMC tells the MMC that she likes him only to find out he never felt the same.

I have a crush on my coworker who’s leaving soon, and I wanted to gear up to tell him that I liked him. In the event that he doesn’t feel the same way, I wanted to be ready for the rejection.

I’m 28 years old and have never told anyone that I liked them, but I’ve also never met someone I’ve been so compatible with. So this is a chance I’m willing to take.

So yeah, recs for FMCs making the first move please!

Book Request MMC who’s in a position of power and is slightly morally grey

Like the title says, looking for a book where the MMC is in a position of power and is slightly morally grey. Open to dark romance and romantasy. Preferably a moderate to long read. Thanks for any recommendations! 🙏🏼

Book Request Books where FMC cuddles a lot and shows physical affection towards the MMC and he loves it .

Looking for contemporary romance ,no historical, sci -fi ,fantasy , no cheating,no ow drama, or sad endings please

Not too dark

it may start as enemies to lovers ,lots of humour, banter ,funny moments, the MMC slowly turns into a marshmallow golden retriever for her.

Lots of cuddling, physical affection (non se x ual kind ) taking care of each other , spoiling each other ,happy moments

Like going to a carnival together,or picnics gardening together, or any such activities

No dom and sub thing going on through out the book please it may be there during some specific behind the bedroom door scenes, but not through out the book

I loved -

A deal with the bossy devil ,by Kyra Parsi it had a lot of stuff which I like ,and all her other books as well.

So any books similar to them are welcome

Book Request Dark romance with broken fmc/fmc with mental health issues.

Hi! This is a bit of a specific request but looking for a dark romance book, preferably high school or college based where the fmc is recovering from past trauma (ptsd), has depression, anxiety, given up the will to liveir struggles with her mental health in general and the Mmc finds out and deals with it in dark romance fashion if you get what i mean. I wouldn't want it to be fully and completely just helping the fmc cope through typical dark romance methods, and would like a couple scenes atleast of somewhat tender caretaking but I'm not opposed to the former either.

I'm okay with every trope, particularly mild bdsm and only have one hard no, stalking.

Some books with similar tropes I read and really liked were-

- {Black knight by Rina kent}

- {Ruthless empire by Rina kent}

Quick Question Does anyone know the age gap between the mcs in {tied by carian Cole}?

Saw this book on my recommended books on Goodreads and I like the premise but I’m not sure what the age gap is and Im not a fan of huge age gaps unfortunately. I can’t find any information on the MMCs age anywhere so if anyone has an idea or any knowledge on it before I start reading ( or dnf) I’d love to know.

Book Request Halloween romance or erotica anthologies with strong writing

Hello. I'm in a huge reading slump and was hoping you all could help out.

Every year, it seems like there are quite a few Halloween-flavored romance and erotica anthologies available, but if you get a free sample, the writing just isn't it. I know people feel self-conscious asking for "good writing," but that is what I'm doing.

If you've read Halloween-adjacent anthologies that just blew you away, please drop the name in comments! I only have two guidelines this time

- Nothing too dark in terms of relationship dynamics.
- If there are Poly/RH and LGBT stories that's fine, but I'd like at least a couple of monogamous M/F stories in the mix.

ETA: For me, strong writing means good prose, decent characterization, and spice that isn't too crude or unintentionally goofy.

If there's genuine spookiness, all the better! TIA.

Banter/Fun Anyone else ignores description of the love interest because they're not your type?

Recently I read Bride by Ali Hazelwood and Lowe was described as having a buzz cut and I ignored it and imagined him with long hair because a buzz cut is not attractive to me lol. Have any of yall done the same thing with character descriptions you're not attracted to by changing their image to your ideal type? And which book?

Book Request Pregnancy from one night stand with MMC, but with OM/OW complications

I guess you could say I'm looking for something messy.

FMC is pregnant from a one-night stand and she finds out when she's already in a relationship with another guy.

Or, when she goes to tell the MMC, she finds out that he has a girlfriend.

Or, for maximum mess, they're both in relationships.

I would like it if the MMC is dedicated to being with her every step of the way during the pregnancy and afterwards (which would naturally cause friction for the OM/OW).

EDIT: it doesn't need to be from a ONS, they could also be exes

Book Request MMC Finally Achieves His Aims With FMC, Who He Disliked, But The Victory Is Hollow Because He's Fallen For Her Instead?

It could be that he thinks she's a spoilt brat and he's intentionally making things difficult for her to get her to call chicken.

Kind of like {You Can Have Manhattan} or {To Kiss An Angel} or {Asking For Trouble by Tessa Bailey}

Or that he wants to enact a revenge scheme due to some slight conducted by FMC's father/brother/relative as in {His Favourite Mistake by Aydra Richards} but by the time the revenge lands, he's already in love.

And then he has to grovel to get her back 🤭🤭

No Maya Alden or Cate C Wells, please.

Book Request Romance, particularly dark romance in which mmc is an eloquent, polite speaker?

Hello, i'm aware my rec request is a bit odd and specific, but i basically want mmc to be a redflag that has a really specific manner of speech, very eloquent and "elegant". Something like Hannibal Lecter in a way? Although that's not exactly what i'm looking for.

I just want the opposite of gruffness in speech, i have no idea how else to explain it. I don't want him to say "You're fucking hot", i want him to say "You're exquisite" lol.
I want his polite eloquence to be at odds with his fucked up personality. Like, he won't randomly curse or be rude, but will wallow on thoughts about breaking fmc.

I want him to be the type to stay calm rather than yell or instantly use his fists when angry. I really enjoy possessiveness.

The only stuff i don't want in a book are:
-Huge age gaps
-teenage mmc and fmc
-Cheating
-public sharing
-college setting (but i can accept it if there's no other option)

Thank you in advance!

Gush/Rave 😍 {Heart of the Light Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon} Finally a new Elemental Phases book!!

I’m shocked that this book finally exists.  I’m a big fan of CG but the timing of her releases is so unpredictable.  lol.  I was worried that I wouldn’t like Heart of the Light Kingdom as much as I enjoyed the earlier ones in the series, but the author slips back into the world like she never left.  It was one of the best books of the series & I am so happy it’s here!!

Heart of the Light Kingdom is about Randa and Khan, magical beings called elementals who start out disliking each other.  But someone is threatening Randa, so she hires Khan and his friends to be her bodyguards.  They have a reputation for being savage, so the other elementals are wary of them. In exchange she promises to help them find human mates.

Because these guys are strangers to the modern world, everything quickly becomes chaos.  I laughed out aloud several times, especially at Randa’s evil BFF Isaacs' shenanigans.  The story moves fast with a lot of action.  The MMC & his friends struggling to understand human women, customs, & food is a hoot.

Slowly Khan & Randa confront their misconceptions about each other & fall in love.  It’s a surprisingly heartfelt romance.  I was blown away by the depth of the relationship, given all the other madness happening elsewhere in the book.  They’ll have genuine conversations about communication & consent, and then a couple chapters later there’s a guy in a chicken suit.  Somehow it all works!!

If I were ranking the books in the series off the top of my head, I’d put {Heart of the Light Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon} {Treasure of the Fire Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon} & {Exile in the Water Kingdom by Cassandra Gannon} at the top of the list.  All are 5 star reads for me.  I especially loved EitWK.  Gion is the BEST MMC!!  I was swooning over him all over again when he appeared in Heart of the Light Kingdom.

{Queen of the Magnetland by Cassandra Gannon} & {Guardian of the Earth House} are in the middle.  Both are solid reads.  QotM has a unique love story where the FMC has come back from the dead after 3 years & the MMC has wrecked his life while she was gone.  That one made me cry.  The FMC of that book is Khan’s cousin.

Then {Magic of the Wood House by Cassandra Gannon} & {Warrior from the Shadowland by Cassandra Gannon} are at the end of my list.  They’re both good & worth reading, but not my top favs.  The series is better if you read them all in order.

The epilogue ends in a cliffhanger for other characters.  I am very eager to see where that goes!  I just hope the next book doesn’t take so long to get here.

TW for past SA.

Book Request OTT maniacally cheerful MMC like Alex in All the feels/Dade

I just finished {All the feels by Olivia Dade} and my OTT AuDHD self connected SO HARD with Alex.

My favourite things about this character:

- he is absolutely genuine in his joy.

- he isn’t trying to hide his ADHD. It’s part of him. He’s cool with that.

- he is so deep into his own fandom that he gets excited when he and Lauren get confronted with ONLY one bed because he « loves that trope! »

Here’s what I want:

✅ MMC who is OTT cheerful and gregarious

✅ MMC definitely has ADHD, whether it’s said in the text or not

✅ a partner (MMC/FMC/NBMC I am not picky) who is different from them — calmer, more serious, etc.

❌ No cheating

❌ no rape

❌ no poly or RH.

Thank you so much,

Book Request Books where FMC is a single mom who has an accidental pregnancy because of MMC

Whether the first child of FMC comes from MMC or not doesn’t matter. The pregnancy she has in the book has to be from MMC.

MMC doesnt have to be enthusiastic or even like the accidental baby but he has to be supportive regardless.

I've read a few example of this one of them I didnt really like as much which is { A Chance Encounter by Nikki Ash } and the other which i actually liked is { A Kiss for A Kiss by Helena Hunting } great book tho the kid FMC has is already an adult and their kid together is a menopausal baby.

Contemporary or Historical only please. HEA is a must !

P.S.

Yes i've checked the other examples whether from this sub and just googling but i'm looking for more options.
