VS880EX 3D commission project.

A friend of mine recently acquired a VS880EX, with a dead Harddrive 40gb PATA. He had been doing research and found the EBAY SDCARD kit. Sadly the kit was too much for him. In his research he found SD SDHC SDXC MMC Memory Card to IDE 2.5" 44 Pin Male Adapter Converter

But this was not enough. first he wanted to be able to switch SDCARDS, this configuration would not work as the adaptor would be inside the unit and not angled correctly to be accessible, not to mention it would be wobbly. Just an FYI he has the original HD caddy and HD cover

he did not want to cut the original parts, and we still had the problem of access.........

So i went to work and found this: 2Pcs SD to SD Card Extender Cable Adapter Memory Card 4 8 16 32 64 GB SDHC

with this extension we could put the port in the front..... Now to design the caddy and cover. I used tinkercad, took about a 2 weeks of on and off work....

after plenty of versions I made this version:

in the latest version I have addressed the loose ribbon cable with a lid so the ribbon cable now is tucked inside the new caddy. I also secured the SDholder with screws.

its a good fit, slides along the rails and snaps right into the port inside. we have verified and the system sees the sdcard. He has for now a 2gb card so he has 500 some minutes. He has ordered the 32GB card to maximize the storage. Thank you for joining me on my journey. I have a youtube channel RESOURCEFUL3D ive not updated since my main video editing pc broke, but I will be updating.

Here is my synthpop cover of glam classic "Rock and Roll", created entirely with Roland AIRA Compacts (T8, S1, J6, P6). No external software synths, VSTs, or DAW tracks were used (just an iPad app I wrote to trigger pattern changes on the Airas).

Pc use with tr8s and a focusrite interface

Ive been struggling with using my audio interface (focusrite) with my tr8s and still get the options for individual channels from the tr8s while sending audio out of my interface. I know what an aggregate interface is but I havent been able to figure out how to use the most popular one, Coconut and achieve the individual channels of each instrument on the trs8 while sending audio out through the focusrite. Can anyone help?

Cymbal placement on the Roland TD-316

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello,

I have a TD-9 that I bought 20 years ago! It’s never given me any trouble and is always ready when I need it. I’m looking to upgrade my kit, and I’ve been considering the TD-316. The reviews are excellent, but all the videos and photos I’ve found don’t really show the way I like to position my cymbals—I prefer having my crash cymbals close to the toms, and my ride cymbal at the same height as the floor tom.

I’ve gone to check out the kit in person twice, but I’m still wondering: is this kind of setup possible with the TD-316?

Patrick DSP’s Roland TR-1000 Cheat Sheet, v1.50

Hello all, Firmware 1.50 is out, so I've updated my TR-1000 cheat sheet to cover it.

Desktop and mobile versions, both with a clickable table of contents. It covers everything new in 1.22 and 1.50 (NOTE step parameter, KEYBOARD play mode, new MFX types), the MIDI note maps and CC numbers, and a swing chart comparing the Cirklon, TR-1000, SP-1200 and TR-909.

Free download: https://patrickdsp.com/tr1k-cheat-sheet-150/

Let me know if you spot any mistakes.

threesome = 2 x SH-32 + EF-303 (and of course) yhe light of my life,404 MK2t

I’ll be honest, I have no clue what I’m doing. I haven’t even configured the MIDI yet—when I play one, the other plays at the same time; the result is just obscene.

The power—holy shit! Sorry, I’m like a kid right now. I’m going to make a quick video.

Is the latest JUNO-D# series the Swiss army knife of keyboards?

I took delivery on a JUNO-D8 a couple of months ago, and the honeymoon period on this gear has lived up to that name. Part of it is that I have gone years without a solid instrument under my fingers. Yet my fondness for this piece of gear goes beyond the remedy of that deficit. Given feeble income, it was an achievement just to save up for this order.

I wish my board had at least three pedal inputs, but one expression pedal and one binary pedal are enough to support a lot of stylish play. I wish my board had a full piano roll sequencer, but a 64-step pattern sequencer is just fine for most of the old school drum machine outputs I want to emulate (and the system supports complete backing tracks if those are more useful than patterns locked to the on board tempo.)

The one common complaint I would agree with is that this board is really clicky. Even two months in, it feels a little bit heavier than a typical piano, and the mechanical sounds are sometimes not subtle. My hope is that this will make the keybed especially long-lived. My plan is to get a cardoid vocal mic mounted so doesn't pick up those clicks. Obviously those clicks are a non-issue for recording, and virtually a non-issue for public performances with strong amplification.

In every other regard, this instrument is an absolute delight. The thousands of presets are a rich library of well-constructed sounds, while the potential of user-defined tones and scenes surpasses the sounds design possibilities of my 90s synth workstation. Also, when I do set up that vocal mic, I will be able to play around with a proper vocoder and also regulate outgoing audio with a three-band equalizer applied to both keyboard and microphone sounds.

With all that in mind, taking a step back to contemplate what the firm was thinking with these designs, I believe the new JUNO-D series serves up this "Swiss army knife of music." A user with enough accessories can go at it vigorously with two hands, a voice, and moderate footwork. These inputs can be shaped in just about any way a musician might imagine, from vocals autotuned to a keyboard melody to stacks of up to 112 wave forms integrated into seven tones of a single scene. So, am I wrong about this?

Start button on TR8S vs TR6S

The start button on my TR6S broke, I have to start it with midi every time. Considering upgrading.

Does the TR8S have the same soft pad type button? Online it looks like a firmer plastic ā€œclickā€ button

Roland J-6 retriggers my synth's envelope every few beats when synced to external MIDI clock .. any fix?

I'm using a Roland J-6 synced to an Elektron Digitakt II via MIDI clock.

Here's the problem:

  • The Digitakt II sends MIDI clock to the J-6.
  • I play and hold a chord on the J-6's keyboard.
  • While holding the chord, the synth's envelope keeps retriggering periodically, causing the sound to restart rhythmically. (based on the cuurent BEAT devision)
  • When I stop the J-6 sequencer, the problem disappears.

The strange part is that the retriggering frequency depends on the BEAT setting. For example, with BEAT set to 1/4, the envelope retriggers much more frequently, while with BEAT set to 8, it retriggers every eight beats.

I've tried setting the J-6's sync mode to both AUTO and MIDI, but the behavior is the same.

I want the J-6 to follow the external MIDI clock without retriggering the envelope of notes I'm holding on the keyboard. Keep in mind tahat variantion is turned off.

Is this normal behavior, a firmware bug, or is there a setting that disables these retriggers?

Link to the YT video, showing the problem: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/0pHk61yKDtg

Has anyone experienced something similar with the J-6? Thank uu!!

Tb-03, T-8 or other for best 303 sound?

I am looking for the best and still affordable 303 synth I can get and the more I read online the more my opinion changes that's why I need someone to help me with choosing:

Tb-03 - In my opinion it sounds very similar to the original 303 but some people say it is not as punchy.

T-8 - It sounds great but I don't need the drum machine since I will connect it to my MPC live 2. That's why I wonder if there is anything better because, again some people were suggesting that this is currently the best sounding 303 clone, but I can hear some differences not in a good way.

Behringer Td3 / Td3 M-O - I don't have an opinion on those but I've heard the sound great and also that their build quality is not really good. Do you think it is worth it to sacrifice build quality for more controls(over the T-8)? Also somewhere I saw that their pitch is drifting and it's always out of tune. I wonder if that is true or not.

For now I'm more for the T-8 because I can buy it new from the store and not used as Tb-03, but I don't know if the lack of more controls will push me to buy another 303 clone in the future.

Based on JD-tools: A browser-based patch manager, librarian, and format converter for the Roland Boutique JD-08 synthesizer. Manage, sort, inspect, convert (JD-800 SysEx, JD-800 VST), and export complete .svd hardware backup files.

Feel free to leave some feedback. It's my first project of this kind, I needed a tool for personal use but I found it useful so I wanna share it with others (EDIT : SILLY ME, I FORGOT THE LINK) https://shacchiorca.github.io/Roland-JD-ultimate-converter-manager/ ^^link
