Seeking advice (طلب المشورة) My father (63) Stuck in Saudi Arabia Due to Expired Iqama and Outstanding Dependent Fees
Assalamu Alaikum. I’m hoping someone here has experience with a similar situation or can point us in the right direction. Our family is desperately looking for a way to bring my father home to Egypt.
For context:
My father is 63 years old and has been stuck in Saudi Arabia since around 2020, during the pandemic. At that time, he had issues with his employer, which eventually led to his Iqama expiring.
My siblings were also under his sponsorship at the time. Alhamdulillah, he was able to secure their exit papers so they could leave Saudi Arabia. However, as part of that process, he signed a document agreeing to pay the outstanding fees associated with his dependents. From what I understand, this essentially made him responsible for the debt in exchange for securing their exit.
Unfortunately, this has apparently prevented him from leaving Saudi Arabia himself.
What we have tried so far:
- He went to the Egyptian Embassy for assistance, but he was reportedly told that their options were limited because he had signed the document accepting responsibility for the fees.
- He also tried surrendering himself to the police, hoping they could help resolve his situation, but they simply let him go and said they could not do anything about it.
- He is currently unemployed and has no means of paying the outstanding amount.
My father is quite private about his financial situation and has not disclosed the exact amount owed. However, based on my estimates, it could be around SAR 100,000 or more, which is an enormous amount for our family to shoulder.
At his age, we really want to bring him home so he can be with his family and no longer have to worry about this situation.
I would sincerely appreciate advice from anyone familiar with Saudi labor laws, Iqama-related fees, dependent levies, or similar cases.
- Is there any way to request a reduction, waiver, or settlement of the outstanding fees?
- Are there any government agencies, legal aid organizations, or other channels that could help him resolve this without paying the entire amount upfront?
- Is it possible to negotiate a lower settlement or arrange an exit through a different legal process, given that he is unemployed and unable to pay?
- Has anyone experienced a similar situation and successfully helped a family member return back to their home?
We understand that he signed a document, and we are not trying to evade any legitimate obligations. We simply want to know whether there are any legal options available, especially considering his circumstances and the amount involved.
Any advice, personal experiences, or referrals to someone knowledgeable about these cases would mean a lot to our family.
Jazakum Allahu Khairan, and thank you in advance to anyone who can help point us in the right direction.
