I really hope Rivian is willing to let us keep the green hue for the map screen and gauges after the 1st. While not as easy for me as the red that VW used in the mid 2010's, It still feels easier on the eyes to me than the standard display colors at night.

Feels like mine made it further than a lot of others' - took over 43k miles on my 2023 R1S for it to drop below 3mm tread. For replacements, I'm thinking either the Bridgestone Dueler AT Ascent, or the Michelin LTX Platinum. Any thoughts on pros and cons of each from current owners?

Has Rivian given any confirmation that when they say point to point is coming to all Gen 2 cars in 2027, that includes Canada? Given Canada is excluded from the Early Access program, that makes me wonder if point to point will come to Canada in 2027.

I’m looking to move from Tesla to Rivian and will give up FSD for a while if P2P will come in 2027 & if P2P is even like how FSD was 3 years ago. I just don’t want to give up FSD for the next couple years as otherwise I will stick with Tesla a while longer.

What do you peeps think?

Anytime I have any food in the car, like picking up takeout and driving home with it (10 min drive!) my R1S will smell like food for days.

Anyone got a trick to deal with it?

I currently have a reservation for an R2, and an invite to order which unfortunately I cannot do because I have 10 months remaining on my horrible 2024 GMC Acadia Lease.. That being said, I love the R2, its looks, its features but I have a conundrum. I've driven it 2x already and the performance vs my GMC is unmatched of course but this recent time I drove it I started to feel that maybe the car is too small for me. My kids are out of the house and its just me and the wife but I like driving something big, hence the reason why I got the Acadia. I've yet to drive an R1S yet and will eventually do so..

My question is, is it worth purchasing lets say a used 2025 or 2026 R1S Quad or Tri which sometimes depending on the mileage can be around 10K more than the R2 Launch Edition? I ask this because of the size..

Has anyone traded their R1 for the new R2 or vice versa? I also think if I get a 2nd Gen, I can safely get the Autonomy+ PTP driving when its released or at least I think the hardware should be ready.

I know that there are a lot of bad service experiences, but here is a positive data point for those who see only the bad ones.

Noticed my truck was steaming up from the inside with nobody inside. I thought I had smelled something when the AC came on earlier, so I checked under the mats for the tell-tale leakage of the HVAC. Logged a ticket through the app where at first it asked me I spilled anything or left the windows open during a rain (valid questions). Then it gave me a choice of two appointments: one month away and the other 2 days. Took the one 2 days away, obviously. Drop off was on a Friday and super easy. Took around 5 minutes. They gave me an R1T loaner that was the same year as mine, so no getting used to any differences. They communicated through the app on Monday that they found the problem. Then a couple more messages related to the ordered part and then it was done on Thursday, one day early of the estimate. Picking it up was just as simple as the drop off. They replaced the HVAC box, carpet, and insulation under warranty.

I think this has come up more often in recent weeks, but I am starting to wonder what long term battery degradation will be. I would expect some degradation to be sure, but this seems to be on a trend that is making me curious at the very least. I started paying attention to the battery capacity in July of this year when it was sitting around 124kWh. It has very steadily dropped to 120.3 kWh. a 4kWh drop in 3 months seems excessive. This is clearly not the old "oh, it is cold outside" degradation as it has been a solid 90F where I live for some time now. I subscribed to Rivian Roamer to track this and also noticed that vs my cohort, I am basically at the bottom with the majority of the vehicles of my same mileage being above 125kWh. I have not approached Rivian and I am aware of the battery warranty but wonder if anyone has similar experience and/or interfaced with Rivian in this situation.

u/WassymRivian Can you give us an update on the retrofit program please? Some people have gone to their service centers and have had no problem getting them to retrofit their G2 R1S with the new wireless pad being used on the R2. Others, like me, are completely blocked by their local service center. They say they can only replace the pad with the exact model the car was originally equipped with. I'm not asking for this for free, I know I have to pay. Where are we with the retrofit program? It would be nice to have a consistent experience across service centers. Thank you!

I have Gen 2 R1S - was seeing forward collision detection amber warning from last few months - with this warning on, I cannot use my Autonomy+ feature or the auto brake.

I assumed it was just me needing to clean dust out on the sensors - even after cleaning, same issue. I went to service center (great staff) assuming it’s a quick fix - my car is in service center from last 30+ days. Multiple sensors were replaced, the autonomy+ computer was replaced — no luck yet.

I am In NJ - 15k miles and less than 24 months of ownership.

Had the 12v battery proactively replaced in my R1S by mobile service this week.

The tech texted he’s done and promptly left. When I came to check the car few mins later, I found it with a non-working liftgate (won’t open at all, even manually) and all proximity sensors off.
Now I have to wait for a month for the service center to look at it (despite my complaints, they can’t take me sooner).

Anyone had something similar happen? Any easy fix, like a bad contact, etc.? It’s just hard to live for a month without trunk access.

I, obviously, tried soft and hard reset and it didn’t help.

One thing I will give Rivian kudos for even since we first got the Gen 1 launch was how intelligent it was at knowing which of my wife and I were driving. Even if she got to the car first, but I was the one going to the driver's seat it would select me. Its very noticeable because of my wife and my height difference (5'2" vs 5'11"). When it is set to her I get crunched like a walnut lol

But ever since this recent halloween update its been totally different. Almost every single time we go to the car together, even if she is in the back seat with our baby, it puts her as the driver. That happens sometimes if I even get there first.

Anyone else experiencing this or is it just a quirk for my car?

I have had two items go missing in my R1S after falling under the drivers seat…a usb drive and perhaps a wallet.

I understand there is a small opening that allows items to go into a giant space under the car nicknamed the abyss.

Has anyone accessed it? Could a wallet fit in the opening?

My wife is stuck and the car doesn’t start. She did a soft reboot already. Waiting for it to start. Anyone else?

Update: The soft reboot did not work. She did a hard reboot, went for a 5 minute walk, came back, and her cell phone permitted the vehicle to get engaged into drive.

I said what I said. There should be a larger clock or another one on the left screen.

The new UI is good in some ways but bad in others. Also not happy they took away Alexa. I used to be able to open my garage via voice command to Alexa and now that's gone (the button is unreliable and sucks)

Tesla automatically opens and closes upon arrival and departure. The fact that the little prompt pops up when you get close to your garage tells me they could easily implement a similar feature in an update.

The map feels squished now with the bar on the left. Should be customizable.

Feels like constant disappointment. They've ruined highway assist, it nags you constantly if you even look at the lane next to you.

Sharing locations from maps takes an eternity now. Horrible. Half the time it fails to share.

Do better, Rivian.

Commercial driver in Chicagoland that was just about to do a 150k mile AMA update.

2 lane road, 50mph. Cars in front slammed on the breaks, I stopped, car behind me stopped, car behind them did not stop. RAV4 was the middle car that was absolutely smashed.

Any guesses on this one? Should find out next week.

According to Rivian Assistant, this beta program will be released to select drivers in California and Florida starting in DECEMBER!

The website also states that AUTO PARKING and ON TO OFF RAMP features will be coming in “2026”!

Full disclosure: my son and I design and hand-assemble organizers for the R1 under the name OverSpec Designs. We shared this one last week in r/RivianR1S, and wanted to show it here too.

The armrest cubby came up a lot after our floor console: deep, open, and where chargers, sunglasses, receipts, and everything else end up in one pile at the bottom. My son took this one on himself. Over the last few months, he did the CAD, the test prints, and all the fitment iterations.

He set out to fix three things owners kept running into:

• Trash: the Bin Kit adds a 2-liter trash bin that stays out of sight, with fresh liners fed from a spare roll stored below.
• Access: the lower trays lift out independently, so you can reach the space underneath without unloading everything.
• Versatility: between the two lower trays, the top tray (3 mounting positions), and the trash bin, there are about 20 layouts before you even move the dividers. Every tray has divider slots and a laser-cut foam liner.

The pace of this update rollout is maddening and disappointing. I don’t have connect+ (I know, i know), and I understand those “premium” members getting the update first. A few days is reasonable… but come on. Crickets the last few days is absurd.
