Alaska .44 mag

Hello I am curious what are people’s favorite Alaska guns that’s a .44 mag. I’m looking for the smallest and lightest weight while also not having insane recoil like the airlite. Budget isn’t too much of a concern for this since I want this to be my forever Alaska gun. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Another reason to like guitarist Joe Walsh. He knew John Linebaugh.

More shots of the vaquero. Plus some target shooting!

1993 large frame. 45 long colt. Mostly shooting the Ruger only +p stuff out of this. Such a pretty gun

Had to take previous post down because it had an image of a different gun in it and couldn't figure out how to remove one image.

All shots at 15 yards one handed unsupported. I'm getting the hang of her.

Edit:

Yeah so also at some point the previous owner swapped out the grip frame because this one is aluminum so I'm guessing it's from a single six.

Still handles those big hot loads just fine though.

Amazing look and incredible feel. She handles beautifully, the trigger is melted butter. Hogue grip is unrivaled in ergonomic and tackiness and adhesiveness. Light alloy frame but holds straight and true with plus p ammo.

Not ONLY a big bore love affair!

This little guy with either the pachmeyers or the holdout grips is a joy to shoot full house magnums with. Currently a big fan of the federal American eagle soft nose. But I keep an extra cylinder of hsm bear load 357 on me for shooting through barriers, heavy clothing, or big mamma-jammers.

It's an oldish model and came pre owned (read "well loved") so it's got some wear on the finish, but it locks up tight and the double action is smoooooth.

I just have to make sure I keep it oiled before stuffing it into my voluminous folds

3,000 rounds through the m83 🎉

One year and one week after purchase, I have hit 3,000 rounds through the m83. Probably ~70% of that has been magnums. Blazer .357 158gr JHP in this video, it’s been a bumpy ride with this revolver but a very fun one.

Homemade Black Powder Performance in a Pietta 1858 Remington Sheriff .44

My brother made a 120 g batch of homemade black powder with the following composition:

75% potassium nitrate
15% charcoal made from toilet paper
10% sulfur

It was milled for 16 hours in a ball mill with approximately 100 lead balls, then moistened with isopropyl alcohol, granulated through a sieve to roughly 3F grain size, and dried.

The powder was not pressed or corned.

My revolver is a Pietta 1858 Remington Sheriff .44.

I’ve seen reports of commercial black-powder loads producing around 830 fps and 350 ft-lb with a particular conical bullet, but I understand that those results depend on the firearm, projectile, and powder.

I’m interested in understanding how the lack of pressing or corning affects the consistency and performance of homemade powder compared with commercially manufactured black powder.

Has anyone found reliable published research comparing the ballistic performance of unpressed, un corned homemade powder with commercial black powder?

I’m particularly interested in documented chronograph data and pressure testing, rather than estimates based on the recipe alone.

Self defense purposes (location Europe)

Unexpected Speedloader

Going through a bunch of accumulated junk- and amongst the ziplock bags of unrelated cartridges and unused cable locks, I found this HKS Speedloader for a S&W Model 25-5.

I've never owned one, never fired one. Only held one once. Nobody in my circle of friends and family has ever had one. I've never had anything in .45 Colt.

Weird find of the day.

Heritage Roscoe .32 H&R Magnum

Someone talk me out of a Heritage Roscoe in .32 H&R Magnum… 2” barrel, bobbed hammer, stout .32 Long HCWC or .32 H&R JHP’s be an absolutely fine piece for carry I think.

Refinished my SDR

I wasn't overly impressed with the bead blast finish on my satin SDR, so I took a gray 3M pad and knocked down some of the dullness. I didn't want a highly polished finish either. I wanted something closer to the look of the satin finish on some of my Ruger revolvers. I like how this turned out. It is the finish I was hoping for when these were released.

Ruger LCR

After countless YouTube videos and Reddit Threads, I finally decided on purchasing this beauty today from Academy. Besides Desantis Holsters, what else is another good pocket carry? Anyone recommend a tritium style sight so it’s easier to see at night?

Wonder if Ruger suspending all their revolvers will affect my future ability to get manufacture warranty.

With a recent large surge in interest of the NAA holsters I developed some accompanying accessories for carrying some additional ammo.
