Book Review 📚 What makes you decide to keep reading a book?

For me, I think it’s that feeling of wanting to know what happens next. Sometimes it’s an interesting character, sometimes it’s the way a story makes you feel, and sometimes you can’t even explain it. You just need to know where things are going.

I’ve also picked up books that started slowly but ended up surprising me, so I’m curious about how other readers approach this.

Do you usually give a book a few chapters to win you over, or do you drop it as soon as it fails to grab your attention?

Question❔ How do I read more books without burning out?

I only read around 12 books a year on average. Is there something wrong with me if I can't boost that number? Anytime I try to push myself I end up burning out, especially this year has been terrible, as I'm only at six books finished so far and I only loved one of them.

I'd like to be the kind of person who reads a lot of books. I've learned the value of classic literature and I benefit a lot from reading biographies. I think books at their absolute best have the potential to surpass other forms of media.

Question❔ What reading apps are you using?

Hey everyone,
So, in a moment of irritation, I decided to get rid of my good reads account a few months ago. I was just always annoyed by the layout of it, but of course the one thing I did like was that it was keep track of all the books I was reading.

I read mainly on my kindle and I don’t understand why there isn’t a built in tracker over this. It just tells you what books you’ve read, not when and not specific to the current year.

So throughout my time on here, I’ve seen people mention different reading apps, like Fable, I think? I’m wondering if these are truly worth it or if I just need to go back to good reads and start fresh.

I’d love your opinions and/or recommendations.
Thanks!

My TBR List 📃 Read the book & watch the series?

Post image

This has been on my TBR for a while... Thoughts?

Hey all, my most recent post here was about Verity and boy, I was glad I asked for y'all's opinion! I finished it and also read your comments. Had a great time reading through them.

Now I'm about to start Anxious People; so far, I've only read Backman's short stories and I liked them.

Has anyone read this book and then watched the series? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Cheers!

Question❔ Reading books

Does this happen to anyone else? When reading a good book after taking a short break, you get so excited to watch this TV show or movie with the super cool plot and like all these characters and stuff and like imagine them in your head and then you realize it’s actually the book that you’re reading??

Book Review 📚 How to never forget what you read?

Hey everyone, I've been reading books for the past 8 years now (since I was 13 years old), but the recurring problem is that I forget what I read from the books I've read, yes I can tell you what it talk about and what can you learn from it. But the details gets easily forgotten by the days. Let me give you an example; if you read Atomic habits (a self-help book), you can tell anyone it talks about habits and that there is 4 steps to build or destroy any habit, but what you may have forgotten for example "that your identity becomes linked to those around you".

See what I mean? Like details get forgotten!

If you have any suggestions to how someone can never forget details from any book, your free to comment it down bellow so you can show me and other people how to better structure our reading!

Question❔ If a book is available as an e-book

If a book is available as an e-book, is it generally better to get the e-book version? And only buy physical books for the ones you can't get as e-books? What do you think?

Question❔ Do you prefer physical paper books, a Kindle, or audiobooks?

There’s something so satisfying about the smell and feel of actual paper pages, but holding a light Kindle in bed without needing a nightlight is such a game changer.

What’s your main format for reading these days, and why do you stick with it?

Book Review 📚 Review of ‘this is going to hurt’ (book) by adam kay

I hated this book. It simply wasn’t what it intended to be.
Adam is a whining teenager all throughout the book, because he either doesn’t get what he wanted, or that it is everybody’s fault but his own. There is not a single instance where he is a mature adult in the situation.
It seems he prides himself on being an obstetrician and gynaecologist. When the humbleness and humility are lost, what is left is the underlying ego, and ego has no place in the medical field. Please, go ahead and curse the system, all the doctors will support you, we we can make efforts to get better reforms better working conditions, but ego, sorry to say will be supported by no one.
Being an OBGYN myself, it feels jarring to think that someone who got the education and sat through so many deliveries would reflect back on those days in such a negative light. In this field most of us are optimistic, seeing as we deliver babies and try to keep the mums safe.
Will have to accept, that he does have a good comedic timing and sense while writing, but most times it does fall flat considering those patients are real people, with real problems.
One of the instances that really irked me, was where, there was a patient with a psychiatric illness, and the author rants about how she could do this and take ‘important’ doctors away from other emergency patients, and what traumas must’ve caused her to do this, as though, patients with a psychiatric illness do things on purpose, if it were that simple, and these things were under the voluntary control, psychiatry as a branch wouldn’t exist.
Overall, I feel like, this book and his ramblings deserve more so to be in therapy, rather than in bookshelves!

Book Review 📚 The housemaid is watching-personal and kind of strange unusual experience

I've just completed reading the third book in the housemaid series, the housemaid is watching and I wasn't really expecting what I felt, when I was reading the book, when I first picked it up. It is certainly my most favorite and creepy book in the entire series! I know, this is not the kind of review you must've heard before and I honestly feel this way.

It does have some trivial things like a sort of family humor and stuff, but that shouldn't fool you into thinking that is all it is there. And throughout the book, you would be fixated on a certain person, that they are the culprit. But, you would never in your wildest dreams would've fancied that the real murderer was who they are.

In a nutshell, I've thoroughly enjoyed my time reading this book. Infact, I read it in under 5 hours, in one sitting and ai was constantly scared for even the faintest noises. So, I'd like to leave it to your imagination how utterly intriguing it was. And I am not saying that everyone has to feel the same way I did. As it is said, reading preferences are wholly subjective and I am just sharing my thoughts on it.

If anyone, had a similar perspective, let me know!

Question❔ Books that made you say "Im begging you to progress the plot" ?

Has anyone else endured through such tedious and baffling reads that they found themselves frustrated with the story's pace or lack there of and muttering to themselves "can we please get back to the plot" or "please no more filler chapters" ? What are your stories of bad pacing of this kind and advice on how to power through a slow read or not write one yourself?

Question❔ Does anyone else struggle to follow books if they haven’t seen the show/movie first?

Is it just me, or do other people have trouble reading books too?
For example, I tried reading The Summer I Turned Pretty, and I feel like I wouldn’t have understood much if I hadn’t watched the series first. Same thing with* *The Hunger Games.I can understand the words, but I often can’t picture the exact scene in my head, so I feel less invested than I do with a show. With a series, I see everything right away. With a book, it feels like I’m missing something even though I technically get what’s being said.Does anyone else have this? Is it a visualization thing?

Almost 2/3rds into this. Very emotional and heavy. The writing tries to be poetic but after a certain point of time starts feeling boring. For people, who have completed this, how was the book for you?
