Breaking Down My Investment Portfolio
r/RationalReminder • u/Snoo-33445 • 7d ago
Common Sense Investing I'm fighting to get index investing at my nonprofit but they keep hitting back π
Context: I became a board member at a non-profit with an 8 figure endowment. They use active management but the portfolio is still 60/40 with Vanguard ETFs. I showed the board treasurer how we could save on management fees if we just rolled the investment into VSMGX. He sets up a meeting with his Raymond James financial advisor and I spend the meeting showing my portfolio analyser side-by-side and how VSMGX has matched our portfolio for the last twenty years, with a lower expense ratio, and most importantly no advisor fees.
Anndd I get partonized π. The Raymond James person says that the market is 'stressed' and this bull run is bound to end. I counter with how global market capitalized ETF as the best portfolio for just this situation. They then try to show me a video from David Rosenberg about the S&P 500 and bond instability. I say that VSMGX is globally diverified again and reference Warren Buffet's ETF bet. Then time is called and we plan out another meeting.
I really believe that removing a 6 figure advisor fee is a fight to make but I am running out of arguments to be honest.

Portfolio update 30M
Note: it is separated the way it is because of brokerage industry compliance reasons. Ask for specifics if you need.
I also understand FSELX lands in uncompensated risk territory. This is not about AI, itβs about the world running on Semis and many companies printing cash, I donβt believe itβs fully priced in for certain companies which are top holdings. (NVDA,AVGO, etc). Still uncompensated on paper but not performance chasing as I have it through thick and thin.
FNSXX is not to time the market, itβs to prevent destructive behavior in case of a correction (below) while generating a yield.
Finally Iβve allocated money as such that the core will take over the account as I age to de-risk from more volatile factor and sector tilts into low cost index funds.
