My Review/Feedback [UPD] Eng 23 - Ick, Judy Celine
I thought I’d share an updated review of Dr. Ick, particularly for Eng 23:
A lot of us here avoid her considering everyone’s experiences of her high standards and difficult classes —these descriptions alone can deter one from missing out on possibly one of the most interesting and meaningful classes they could ever take!
Her classes are far from the daunting expectations one could concur from the reviews here because in fact, her requirements are straightforward and a perfect score on her exam is very achievable. You can come to class unprepared but still find yourself able to input some thoughts because of the different relatable perspectives she puts on the Shakespearean plays; she gives some asynchronous days from time to time with an easy Google Classroom forum that won’t even require an essay but instead a few sentences on your thoughts on a topic; lastly, her exam is a spot-passage exam where you identify details of the play given specific quoted lines.
The class is manageable and she is not as scary as how people on older reviews write her to be —not to say that those experiences are invalid, but perhaps she has changed now hehe. She’s so funny, she makes everyone giggle in class, and most importantly, she never invalidates an idea. You can recite something so wrong or far-fetched, yet she will still find a way to give it some justification.
I literally look forward to her classes and I hope many of us can change our perspective and share the same wonderful experience.
Had her for Eng 123 as well and her pedagogy is the same except that the exam is more objective and has a fun essay at the end. :)
