RIP Bailey 💔 Spoiler
Bailey 💔
Wednesday afternoon Bailey did not come running at me like she usually does. I was home earlier than usual and she often naps so I didn’t think more to it. After an hour or two I offered her a treat and she wouldn’t take it. I knew something was wrong. I spend hours getting her out from under my bed (her favorite nap place) and we rushed off to the emergency vet. She had gi-stasis, low temperature and when the vet checked her teeth they were in such a bad shape. I was faced with the hardest choice of my life - to let her go in peace or to attempt to get her through the night but looking at at least 4 teeth treatments (sorry I don’t know the English word) a year. I asked the vet point blank what she would do if it was her pet and she said she would give her peace cause with her teeth she would be struggling for the rest of her life. She got one shot and for about 30 seconds she was herself again and even gave me a few kisses.
I am still kinda shocked cause she had her teeth fixed twice. Last time in February and then we went to a checkup around may and everything looked great. She was not showing any symptoms, lack of appetite but I do know that they are very good at hiding discomfort and I know I did absolutely everything I could every single day for the short amount of time we had together. I keep wondering if I should have gotten a second opinion.
On October 4th we celebrated her gotcha day and now I sit in my sofa with an empty void. Bailey is the 3rd rabbit I have lost in the span of 2 years. My other bunnies were seniors, and their losses hit hard, but Bailey only got one year of life. It seems unfair.
If I had been told what would happen and the short amount of time we’d have together before I got her, I would still do it all over again.
I have been offered another bunny that needs rehoming because of allergies and honestly I kind of want to take her in, but I don’t want to replace my baby and I don’t know if it’s too soon for me to make a decision.
Bailey, I loved you more than words can describe. Until we meet again.

Care Enrichment
Hey all, i see plenty of ideas for enrichment using pellets, greens etc but I really dont see a lot of hay enrichment ideas. Our rabbit loves the hay stuffed toilet roll and eats hay 95% of the time so much quicker with this method, we dont want to have to use pellets or greens always for obvious reasons, ive also seen using twine and suspending toilet rolls etc, just really seeing if there are any ideas out there that you dont easily come across really! Thankyou 😊
Also bun tax included (always forget but the boy is toooooo gorgeous to not show off)

Health Euthanasia Decision Spoiler
My girl Rosie has always had issues with sore hocks. She's always been a heavier, chonky girl, and she's had little pink spots on her back heels for practically her entire adult bunny life. They've never been a problem. Rosie is 8 years old.
Last night, before bed, I went up into her and Ducky's (her brother) room to give them their nightly meds and she didn't come running over to me like she normally does. Something was wrong. She didn't want to come out from her hidey spot. I was finally able to coax her out with a treat, but noticed when she was walking, she was holding up her back left leg and limping...
I took her into the emergency vet first thing this morning. And before I get into the rest, I want to note that my bunnies see the experts at Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Their doctors are the experts and the best place for exotic treatment in the entire pacific nw region. So after spending some time examining her in the back, the doctor came out and got me and asked me to come back to the exam room, which was unusual.
She showed me a tissue with some blood and pus on it. She told me that the infection was likely up into her ankle. She said that typically, they do amputation in cases like this to ensure the infection is taken care of because of the structure of a rabbit foot. She said Rosie was not a good candidate for amputation because her other back foot also had a bad sore on it, and taking this foot would cause her to only use the other one - which would likely cause the same thing to happen to her other foot... so I asked her what she would recommend, then?
She said that euthanasia would not be a wrong choice in this specific situation.
I could not believe it. I sat there in shock for a moment, and then started to cry. How could this happen?? From a little sore on her foot that had been there forever?! Oh my god.
She then told me that we could try to open up the area under anesthesia and flush it, repeatedly, while putting her on some strong systemic antibiotics. But she said in her long career, she's never seen a rabbit recover fully from a foot infection like this, though, unless they do amputation. So she wanted to be up front that it may not get better, and I may end up having to euthanize her at the end of this attempted treatment anyways...
They told me to take time to think about it, and left the room.
I sat there and sobbed for 2 hours, agonizing over the right decision for Rosie. On one hand, I don't want to put her through so much pain and discomfort for the last few weeks of her life of this doesn't resolve and then she passes having this shitty experience. On the other hand, if I choose euthanasia, I will always wonder if she could have gotten better if we had only tried and given her the chance. I hate this so much.
I finally decided that we would at least give the doctor a chance to get in there today and take a good look inside her foot to flush it and see if the infection is spread to the bone or if it really is a bad as it really looked upon initial exam.
She called me late this afternoon and told me she flushed it out as best as she could, and that the infection went in multiple different directions about 1 to 1.5 centimeters into her foot. She packed it with medical grade Manuka honey and wrapped it. She gave her a fentanyl patch tonight, and is keeping her at the hospital through the weekend, and we will reassess how she's doing and how the infection looks on Monday.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue before? I would love to get other people's experience if anyone wouldn't mind sharing if they've had anything similar happen with their buns.
Also, please, if you could, send my little chunky monkey all the best wishes and good vibes and prayers - whatever you believe in. She really could use them right now. 🫂 Thank you.

Health You guys are awesome.
My little lady (on the right) was showing early signs of GI stasis. Lethargic, not interested in food treats or water. We’ve been through this before almost losing her, we have rushed right to the emergency vet in previous situations but this time I feel like it was caught early. I came to the sub to check for home remedies and saw lots of people recommending baby gas drops. I went to the pharmacy to grab simethicone drops and gave them to her right away. Within an hour she was using her litter box and back to eating hay. Our vet has never brang up using gas drops, without this sub our lady could’ve been in a much worse situation then she is in now. Thank you all :)

Care hay dust?
i bought a bale of hay for my buns, and ive been going through it in a separate bin with a sifting pan to get rid of the dust. is this actual dust that i should avoid giving them, or is it just little tiny scraps of hay i might be able to use as a layer in their litter boxes?
(plus bunny tax)

Care Tips to reassure and raise an unfixed F!bunny, pls?
As we found out in my last post here, the rescue I took in is most likely not fixes yet, hence her territoriality.
I'd still like to know if I can help her feel better or not with feeling safe here, and... no longer pismmand shitting over the bed and attacking me when I nead to go near her to fill her water bowl or such.
edit : I am planning to take care to the vet, I just can't this month because of unplanned expenses!!
Ty!

RIP Two buns die under six months Spoiler
My baby Theodore, as pictured, passed away a month ago due to stasis. He was my son who I dedicated all of my time to. He was only five months, I raised him from eight weeks old. I noticed he seemed sad in the morning before I left for work. So, I refreshed and put out some additional enrichment mats and his dig box for when I left for work. I came back and noticed he hadn’t pooped any more and immediately took him to the vet. When I picked him up I knew it was serious. He felt like a ragdoll. This happened to my previous bunny three years ago. He died tragically and suddenly of a stroke and when I picked him up he felt like a ragdoll. This previous bunny, Chester, I was less educated on bunny care. So I made it my mission to give Theodore, the bunny pictured, a beautiful, long, safe, and happy life. I did everything I could but I miss him everyday. I wish I took him to the vet instead of going to work, I had no idea he wasn’t just cranky. I miss my baby, but unfortunately I can never go through this again. I also can’t help but think I could have saved both of them.
I have so much immense grief, I’ve been reading everyone’s posts and just wanted to engage with the bunny community for support and guidance. I feel very lost without my son, but I know I have to move on.

Care best forage blends for daily use?
hi i was wondering if anyone had some recommendations for daily forage blends (or just one herb), specifically for DAILY consumption (he gets about a teaspoon a day, he is only 3.8 lbs)
i've added a forage box to my rabbits routine and hes absolutely digging it and i own a lot of small pet select's forage blends and im also interested in looking into willow & hare's blends as well. he likes pretty much everything, he hasnt turned his nose up to any flower or herb
but i just wanted to be careful with the ingredients especially if hes getting forage once a day i would like it to be the best for him, he doesn't have any health conditions besides being particularly stasis prone so anything high in fiber is a plus...
thank u!

I feel like 80% of what they do is eat hay and shit it back out. Rabbits are truly remarkable animals.
I adore them. They are beginning to tolerate me 😂.

Care Question about my rabbit
So since i moved out of my mom’s house (5 months ago now) my rabbit doesn’t want to come out of his cage , i always let it open for him to freely go out , i have a cat too but they grew up litteraly together and they dont have a problem with each other sometimes they sleep together and for my cat it took her some time adjusting to the apartment but my rabbit its still like its day one, he eats and drinks normally everyday , he doesn’t play with his toys anymore , when i force him out of the cage to clean it he just sits on me while i clean it, its like he refuses to to explore. I was thinking maybe its because he’s used to live where he always lived at my mom’s house he lived there all his life he’s 5yo. Took him to the vet today because i was kinda scared for his health but he’s in great shape besides he eats too much, i asked the lady why he acts like that and she told me to take him out of his cage and close his gate to see if he will go around but he just sits next to the gate. I honestly dont know what to do so im open to suggestions on what to do.

Behavior How to stop/dampen digging?
Hello! I have a young bunny around 8 months old, she's not spayed currently, but we have an appointment for December.
She lives in a big Xpen with unlimited toys, unlimited food and unlimited love. A couple of months ago, she started digging in her litterbox for seemingly no reason which just created a huge mess, but wasn't a problem otherwise, I'd just clean it up and we'd carry on. But things have been getting progressively worse since. She started doing it more often, and slowly got more intense with it as time went on, and her claws against the plastic of the litterbox are extremely loud.
At this point, it is the only thing she does. Ever. She digs the litterbox for 20 minutes, takes a 5 minute nap, then goes back to work. And again, it is extremely loud. It's gotten loud to the point that I can no longer sleep in my own room, my parents have trouble sleeping downstairs because of her noisy digging, and even during the day it's difficult to spend time in my room as her digging is very distracting and makes it hard to think.
I don't mind that she digs, since she obviously enjoys it, but something has to be done to at least dampen her, and I don't know what I can do as I've tried everything I can think of.
I've upgraded her litterbox twice, currently we are on a gigantic hooded litterbox that I drilled holes into for extra ventilation. It keeps the mess mostly contained but still is very loud, so it didn't really help much. I've made her digging boxes, but she doesn't care for them, the litterbox is obviously way more fun. I've tried putting puppypads and also cardboard under her bedding, but they just got moved out of the way or even deliberately carried out of the box. I've also tried swapping her bedding but it didn't matter.
Does anybody have any tips on what I can do with her? Or will I just have to hope she grows out of it?

Health How do I make my bun comfortably take oral medication twice a day without stressing him out.
So I have a bun who has been having these messy runny poos for about a year and half and we finally found a good vet that knows what’s going on. He has a sort of harmless bacteria in his gut and in his poo that causes poopy butt and loose stools. Also he never does these in the litter box so my room is constantly a poo mess if I don’t stay on top of it. Back to the point. We tried Benebac(?) and that didn’t work and luckily that one tasted good so he took it willingly. The new med we’re trying, he doesn’t like the taste of and has to be fed like 4 small syringes worth twice a day. Unfortunately my buns both hate being picked and I can’t find a solution around it. If I can’t grab him quickly and immediately, I have to chase him around which we both absolutely hate and ik stresses him a lot. This process twice a day is taxing on both of us and I’m worried if this med works that he’ll be on it the rest of his life. I can’t gradually get him used to the pick up process bc he needs these meds immediately and it could take weeks to months to get him used to that. I also don’t know the best way to get him used to the pickup process. When they’re eating I try to slowly put my hand underneath their belly and occasionally lift them for a second or two but that’s about as far as I’ve gotten. I’ve also mashed banana into his medicine and he won’t take it willingly still even though my buns like bananas quite a bit. Is there an easier way I can go about this without stressing my rabbit out so much. I’ve seen a few people mention leaving him on the ground and tucking his butt against their armpit as they feed him but my bun won’t stay still for that and will run away. He also doesn’t like being pet very much, only on his behind occasionally so I’m really at my wits end. Does anyone have some advise. I could really use it, I’ve scoured the internet and I’m truly lost. Nari is the black bunny in the pictures who’s been having the problems.

Health Vet cost for fractured leg
Not sure how it happened, but my boy managed to fracture his leg. I was able to get him in to the vet the same day I noticed him limping, but I had to drop him off this morning to get his cast, and then pick him up again.
So we're three vet trips and $1,117.38 in at the moment. The vet wants me to bring him in once a week to assess the cast, and in four weeks get another x-ray.
He's doing well, still a little high and keeps spacing out while eating hay. If anyone has any tips for stopping him and his bondmates chewing the cast, I will take them.

Care Insurance
My 6 y/o bun just got diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease. Although seen in cats, my local specialist has never seen it in Buns before.
I want to get insurance now that we will be going to the vet more often but was looking between Nationwide and PetAssure. MetLife isn’t in my state, so that isn’t an option.
I have two bunnies and a cat. Does anyone have any experience with these providers, and can you offer your opinions!
