Here in Spain you will legitimately become the target of a mass cancellation & harassment campaign if you don't celebrate Columbus Day (which is Spain's official national holiday btw, just like the 4th of July in the US, called in Spain "el Día de la Hispanidad", that is, "the Day of Hispanity", or "el Día de la Raza", that is, "the Day of the Race", literally 🤣😭), vindicate the Spanish Empire as one of the best things to ever happen in human history, justify Spanish imperialism/colonization/slavery/genocide on the basis that "we were the ones who brought civilization & modernity to the Americas", & vindicate the Hispanic heritage that we brought to the Americas as the best & most worthy of celebration thing to ever happen to the Americas (many if not most Spanish right-wingers & Spanish nationalists believe we should establish stronger political ties with Latin America than with Europe).
