📢 Megathread MEGATHREAD: 2026-2027 Interviews and Rejections!

Hi all!

This is the megathread where we will keep track of interviews for the subreddit for the '26-'27 cycle. As has become custom, we will track results via a single thread with comments representing all the schools. People don't tend to be so good at hunting for individual threads (even when easily linked), so the single thread makes things much easier to moderate. Use our SCHOOL FINDER to help you quickly locate your high-level comment of interest.

We will use the typical Student Doctor Network (SDN) format because it's tried and true. Copy and paste the format below in the relevant comment chain.

Interview #__ / Rejection #__ (pick the one that applies and delete the other)

💬 Discussion Weekly DAT Discussion Thread - October 19, 2026

This is your place to discuss the Dental Admission Test (DAT). Do you need to vent about studying or content? Decide on the best source of preparatory materials? Discuss scheduling the exam via the ADA? Perhaps ask about the particularities of the exam day? This is the thread to do so!

Note: feel free to make independent DAT breakdown posts. This weekly thread is meant to cut down on the overwhelming number of DAT posts, but not take away from your success!

🖇️ Miscellaneous Still no interviews :(

I applied to 16 schools this cycle (between mid June and mid July) and have yet to receive a single interview invitation.

My DAT is 500, GPA 3.61, I easily have 100+ hours of shadowing because I've been working as a dental assistant for over a year now. I think the most obvious weakness in my application may be my letters of recommendation; since I applied to dental schools 3 years after completing undergrad, I wasn't able to get a strong rec letter from an undergrad professor. But I do have one strong letter from a CC professor whose course I took very recently and a strong letter from a dental professional. Anywho.

I'm scared and sad and I want to be a dentist. Rip sadge, please commiserate?

Advice: I submitted my application somewhat late-early in the cycle, and was verified July 21st, but have not received any communication from any of the schools I applied to. Although I know it is still "early", I am preparing for the next application cycle. What can I do to make my application stronger/stand out more? Additionally, given my sGPA, is it better to do a masters or stick with DIY post-bacc?

💡 Advice letter of interest vs intent

💡 Advice how much weight does an upward trend have when GPA is still below average

so i was talking to the dentist i work for and she was telling me that dental schools care about an upward trend if your GPA is below average rather than someone who has been below average consistently over 4 years of undergrad, but i was wondering where is the line drawn. like if someone had all As their last 2 years but graduates with a cGPA of a 3.2 how is that seen? does individual coursework have more pull than the overall GPA? i know there may not be a lot of people who work/worked in admissions but doesnt hurt to see what people know lol

💡 Advice Could Dropping a Non-Required Course After My Dental School Interview Hurt My Acceptance Chances?

Hey everyone! I recently interviewed at one of my top-choice dental schools and am currently waiting for decision day. On my AADSAS application, I listed Organic Chemistry II as an in-progress course. I’ve already taken it previously and got a C so I was planning to retake it to improve my grade. However, it’s not a required prerequisite for this school.
I recently received a promotion at work, and my responsibilities have increased significantly. I’m also taking Anatomy & Physiology II and just completed A&P I with an A. The school requires prior approval for changes to planned coursework, so I emailed admissions requesting permission to drop Organic Chemistry II.
My concern is: Even if admissions approves the drop, could it still negatively affect my acceptance chances since I originally listed the course on my application?
Has anyone been in a similar situation after interviewing? I’d really appreciate your thoughts or experiences!

💡 Advice Is getting a minor worth it for dental school?

Hey everyone! Do dental schools value applicants having a minor, or does it not really make a difference in how competitive your application is?

If a minor is worth it, what would you recommend? Would psychology, sociology, art, criminology, or something else be good options? Would it be better to take a few classes in different subjects without committing to a minor?

Also, does choosing a minor related to dentistry look better, or could an unrelated minor help my application stand out just as much?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially from people who’ve already applied!

💡 Advice Question for those who had average or below average stats but got an interview because of ABS and essays:

What do you think you did / wrote that managed to get you the interview?

Do you guys have any advice for how to go about writing the ECs and essays? Does the actual topic / ec activity matter or is it more how to write about it?

🤝 Interviews Interview question.

What’s the best way to answer the question what’s the last book you read? Or Tell me about the last book you read when you genuinely have not read a book in a while. I feel like being honest and saying you don’t really read could only hurt you

💡 Advice Is it true that some schools reject applicants with a C in a prerequisite?

I don't know how true this is but I've seen this advice going around a lot recently but people are saying "Make sure to get a B- or higher in all of your prerequisite course work."

Is there some secret rule where you need a B- or higher in all of your prereqs? I know the requirement for all schools is a C or higher in prereqs, but I keep seeing people say to earn a B- or higher.

Do I now have to retake my gen chem 2 and stats class because I got C's in both of them? Or is this rule not true?

🎓 Post-Bacc / Masters Post Bacc or Masters

Hello everyone! I’m feeling a little lost right now and would really appreciate some advice on what direction to take.

I currently have a undergrad 3.2 cGPA and a 3.1 sGPA and I’m trying to decide whether pursuing a master’s program or doing a post-bacc would be the better option for me. I have six classes left this fall before I graduate, so I’m trying to plan my next steps.

My concern rn is the cost. Master’s programs are pretty expensive and I’m not sure how I would afford one. I currently attend a private university and I honestly would prefer not to pay their tuition rates for additional undergraduate classes so if I decide to pursue a postbacc, I would most likely transfer to a public university in my city to save money.

For those who have been in a similar situation, what would you recommend? Any advice would be great!
