Learning & Industry Passed the PL900 exam

• Upvotes

Just want to share for future takers of PL900 exam

I just took PL900 last Friday and passed with a score of 842.

As I can recall, scope is more on: Copilot, Power Automate, Power Apps (difference between Model Driven App and Canvas), DLP policies

We used Power Platform at work, so I have practical experience, plus I did review at Microsoft Learn and I think it's enough to passed.

Goodluck for future takers!

Copilot Studio Copilot Studio vs PowerPlatform

Copilot Studio has Agents, Workflows and now Apps.

I feel like Microsoft has rebuilt PowerApps, PowerAutomate and Virtual Agents and tacked on a tax with the Copilot Managed Runtime without providing any clear vision on the future of PowerPlatform.

Documentation says Copilot Managed Runtime helps teams build internal line-of-business apps that automatically comply with your Org governance policies. Yeah! You did the same in the power platform but it didn’t charge you for opening an app!

Governance Powerapps premium licenses requires for all users in a managed environment?

Background : power platform (citizen dev) in my company. Not an admin except for the environments I have been given .

I have only built apps that use non premium connectors.

I saw this article yesterday and it's super concerning. It appears that from Feb 27 , all users connecting to a managed environment power app must also have a premium license. This cost is going to bankrupt us in a way. Currently only the citizen devs have premium licenses.

https://www.withum.com/resources/microsoft-power-apps-licensing-enforcement-is-changing-in-february-2027-what-organizations-need-to-know/

I have of course alerted our IT guys as I am not sure they are aware.

How is everyone managing this?

I built apps as they met the need and was low cost (if I ignore my time). For one app, I have 400 people using it. If they all need power app premium licenses , I might as well just buy a cloud based solution.

Microsoft really sucks !! I am still sour, that in my personal capacity my family sub is gonna be downgraded to 2TB shared storage compared to the 6TB i have now.

Power Apps Is it possible to use CoPilot or Cowork to upgrade a PowerApp

As the question. I have some old power apps built using the original controls. Now that we have modern controls , I would like to update the app to use them, especially for date picker and people control .

Can copilot or Cowork automatically upgrade an app so that all controls are switched to their modern equivalents and also update the necessary code logic to work with the requirements of the new modern controls.

Phase 2 :

If it could also optimise the logic and adapt for responsive, it would be fantastic.

Is it possible ?

Power Automate There has been no guide to deploying Power Automate flows from code. 100% free on Github.

Last month I posted a JSON knowledge base of PAD ROBIN actions that I documented with Claude AI, so models stop writing desktop flows that PAD rejects. Getting a flow that pastes clean is half the job. The other half is getting it into an environment and running it without clicking through the portal, and there's no single place that documents that either.

There has been no Robin language reference since 2021. I documented one with Claude AI. PAD actions with paste-validated examples, 100% free on GitHub. : r/PowerAutomate

So I wrote it down: PAD_Robin_Deployment_KB.md, in the same repo. It covers:

  • Signing in once for Graph, the Flow API and Dataverse with one device-code sign-in and refresh token.
  • Discovery: pulling the user's real environments, connections, connector operations, sites and lists, so the model stops inventing them.
  • Cloud flows through the Flow API, plus the Dataverse workflow table route: creating, turning on and off, and starting a run.
  • The definition rules the API enforces, each with the exact error message you get when it's broken. I re-tested 25 single-change variants of one flow against the current API, and several old "rules" turned out not to be needed.
  • Desktop flows: validating before delivery, delivering by paste, running them from a cloud flow, and reading the result from flowsessions.
  • A troubleshooting table of about 30 error messages, with what actually causes each one.

Every claim is marked Proven, Re-confirmed or Measured, all checked against PAD 2.73.

It also documents writing desktop flows straight into Dataverse: creating them from scratch, inputs and outputs, child flows, and cloud connector actions inside desktop flows, including SharePoint writes with dynamic schemas. That part is not supported by Microsoft. It was proven on one environment, attended runs only, so try it in a test environment first.

Repo: https://github.com/JoeG592/pad-robin-action-kb

Same license as the action KB, CC BY 4.0, so use it however you like, commercially included. Like last time, I built this with Claude AI. The data is free regardless.

If something in the guide doesn't hold on your tenant or PAD build, an issue with the error text is the most useful thing you can send.

Power Automate There's been no Robin language reference since 2021. PAD action paste examples, 100% free on GitHub.

I was working with Claude AI on a Power Automate Desktop (PAD) project and found there is no official reference for ROBIN, the language behind PAD.

The original language site went offline in 2021. The Designer is the only thing that knows the syntax, and most actions have several selector forms with different argument sets that you never see in text form. So, models write ROBIN from training data, and PAD rejects it without an error message.

I recorded a JSON knowledge base of 953 PAD Robin actions across 41 modules. Every record has

- the exact Robin action id, including the selector form (Text.JoinText.Join vs Text.JoinText.JoinWithDelimiter, which take different arguments)

- a template with placeholders and a golden example that pasted into PAD Designer with zero errors

- typed input and output parameters, with the Robin argument names PAD actually accepts

- the sibling forms of the same action, so a model can find the variant that has the argument it needs

Plus, a type reference with the exact syntax for each of the 42 parameter types, and a system prompt that turns a model into a template filler over the two files instead of a code generator.

Every example was pasted into PAD Designer through UI automation and accepted with no errors. Validated against PAD 2.67, September 2026.

This is not a runtime guarantee, the Designer accepting a line means the syntax and arguments are right; whether the values make sense for your task is still on you and the model.

231 further selector variants that need recorded UI elements, images, or live mail connections are not in this release.

Repo: https://github.com/JoeG592/pad-robin-action-kb

License is CC BY 4.0, so use it however you like, commercially included.

I built this while working on a project using Claude AI, The data is free regardless.

If a record fails to paste on your PAD build, an issue with the action id and the error text is the most useful thing you can send.

If trying to paste a multi-step flow and the paste is blank in Designer, use AI to paste each step individually line by line to find the bad syntax for the single step

Power Apps New guidance and updates for building enterprise-grade apps with SharePoint Embedded

Microsoft just dropped a comprehensive update forSharePoint Embeddedfocused on taking apps from development to production with better scalability and governance.

A few highlights from the post:

  • Scale & Limits: Clearer planning baselines for container strategies (up to 2 million sites and containers per tenant).
  • Search & Metadata: Increased limit to 40 searchable columns per container, allowing keyword search via Microsoft Search in Microsoft Graph.
  • Reliability & Throttling: New guidance on managing API rate limits (defaulting to 12,000 resource units/min per app per tenant) and handling 429/503 slow-down signals gracefully.
  • Auth & Permissions: Broader support for Microsoft Entra service principal types and narrower Graph permissions like FileStorageContainer.Selected.
  • Co-authoring: Built-in real-time co-authoring, version history, and auto-save for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint without needing to build your own collaboration stack.
  • Agentic Tools: Introduction of the SharePoint Embedded Model Context Protocol (MCP) server preview so you can manage resources using natural language via GitHub Copilot, Cursor, etc.

Thought this might be useful if you're currently architecting custom line-of-business apps or multi-tenant solutions on the platform. Interested to hear if anyone has started playing with the MCP server yet!

Power Apps Ever wanted a model-driven app with every component in it, just to see how they all work?

Here it is, and you can click through it in your browser. No license, no sign-in, no tenant.
https://www.benschmark.eu/components/model-driven/

The video shows seven of the 68 components. The rest are in the app, each with a guide on what it is and when to use it.
https://www.benschmark.eu/components/model-driven/

What I use it for:
• Presales: show a kanban view or a business process flow without setting up an environment first.
• Workshops: let the customer click through and point at what they mean. That side panel thing becomes a quick create form.
• Onboarding: let juniors explore and learn the correct names before they touch a real environment.

Fictional data, stays in your browser. A demo for learning and showing, not a Microsoft product.

Power Apps Visual explorer for Power Apps formulas

Hi everyone.

Continuing on from the previous tool, Power Automate Functions Explorer, I had a go at building a similar tool for Power Apps.

The official Power Fx documentation is very good, but I often found that jumping between different references to find what I needed was tedious.

To solve this, I built an interactive A to Z mind map for the Power Apps Formula Reference. It brings the functions, syntax, and examples into one visual interface.

I built this while experimenting with GitHub Copilot.

Hope it saves you some time!

Hi everyone.

For those of you building complex workflows, I created a free, interactive mind map of all Power Automate functions.

It brings the syntax and examples into one visual interface, so you do not have to jump between different Microsoft Learn tabs while building. Hope it saves you some time!

Power Apps Code app Local Play suddenly stopped loading ("Code app URL is not available") – anyone else?

Hi all,

Is anyone else having trouble running their Power Apps code app locally?

Until recently I could run my code app with `npm run dev` and open the Local Play link without any problems. Now the page just stays blank, and the browser console shows:

AppLoadFailed – Code app URL is not available

What's odd:

- Nothing changed in my project. An older version that used to work fails the same way.

- The published app (after pushing) works fine. Only Local Play is broken.

- The local dev server is running and responding normally.

- It happens in Chrome, Edge and Incognito.

- Right before the error, there's a 403 (Forbidden) in the console from a Power Platform environment request.

My setup:

- Vite + React code app using Dataverse plus the Office 365 Users and SharePoint connectors

- u/microsoft/power-apps 1.1.3 and u/microsoft/power-apps-vite 1.0.2

- Windows 11, work-managed laptop. Our IT blocks pop-ups in the browser, not sure if that's related.

Has anyone seen this recently? If you fixed it, what worked: updating the packages, changing a browser setting, something else?

Thanks!

Copilot Studio What are the practical limitations of Microsoft Copilot Studio?

I'm researching Microsoft Copilot Studio for a technical document and would love to hear from people who have hands-on experience building agents with it.

I'm particularly interested in its limitations regarding:

Cost & licensing: How expensive does it get at scale?

LLM flexibility: How much control do we have over model selection?

Agent capabilities: Limitations in multi-agent orchestration and complex workflows.

Observability: How easily can we trace agent actions, tool calls, and failures?

Integrations & extensibility: Limitations with custom APIs, connectors, and code.

Governance & deployment: Version control, CI/CD, debugging, and production readiness.

How does Copilot Studio compare with building agents using frameworks like LangGraph or Semantic Kernel?

I'd especially appreciate real-world experiences, pain points, and examples of situations where you'd choose a custom-built solution over Copilot Studio (or vice versa).

Thanks!

Copilot Studio Anyone attempted yet to build something COE-like using Copilot Studio Apps?

just wondering.... :)
Github harness has Apps (preview) since few days. MS COE is EOL. Heard users forked COE already maintaining on their own.

But how about a slim, sleek (vibecoded) app using either old COE Dataverse tables (if still installed & collecting) or poll directly via Power Platform API? No need for too much junk, just flows/apps/agents/credits/owners and some statistics around them...

I've no f.g idea how many credits would it take to just build & adjust it.....like anything else in the new harness. Consumption should be covered via a premium powerapps per user license.

Learning & Industry Advice needed for getting started in Power Platform consulting

I have 6 years of office and administrative experience, but feel I've reached a ceiling and would like to advance my career. I'm currently doing some Microsoft Power Platform courses and hoping to move into a junior Functional Consultant role.

There's so much information online that it's hard to know which courses and skills are actually worth focusing on.

For those already in the industry, how did you get started? What kind of jobs should i realistically be looking for, and which training courses or certifications are most useful for someone starting out?

I'd really appreciate any advice on where to focus my efforts and what types of entry level roles I should be looking for, particularly around the Palm Beach area, Florida.

Thank you.

Learning & Industry Hands-on Power Platform Training

Hello!

Does anyone know of any actual hands-on Power Platform trainings that provides real environments that students can interact with as they learn? I have basic knowledge and can build simple apps and workflows, but I want to enhance my skills and become more advanced.

Note: I have ADHD and just reading or watching a video does not work for me. I learn much better and faster when I am interacting with programs myself.

Thanks in advance.

Power Automate On-prem gateway update through admin center

We've been updating our on-prem gateway installations by logging in to the servers directly and updating the gateway app but I thought to try the option to update through admin center directly. However, the button to update is inactive, even though the gateway is enabled, reachable and not undergoing an update:

The gateways are installed on windows 2025 servers on local network. I've had a support ticket regarding this issue but the support has been less than helpful.

Has anyone had the same issue?

Power Apps SharePoint Embedded + Power Platform: building document-centric apps without building the storage la

I just wrapped up a webinar on using SharePoint Embedded with the Power Platform, and I thought this community might find the scenario interesting.

The basic idea is pretty straightforward:

If you’re building a document-centric application with Power Apps, Power Automate, or Copilot Studio, SharePoint Embedded can provide the underlying app-specific document storage while keeping that content within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

With the Power Platform connectors, you can perform CRUD operations against SharePoint Embedded and incorporate document management directly into your apps and workflows.

That opens up some interesting scenarios:

  • Power Apps backed by app-specific document storage
  • Power Automate workflows that create and manage documents
  • Copilot Studio experiences grounded in application content
  • Document-centric solutions that inherit Microsoft 365 capabilities around security, compliance, retention, and eDiscovery
  • Less custom file-management infrastructure to build and maintain

The part I find most interesting is the combination of low-code application development + Microsoft 365 document services + AI experiences.

Curious what people here are building in this space, especially around Power Apps, Power Automate, and agentic/Copilot scenarios.

Copilot Studio Integrating Teams Phone with Contact Centre.

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on a small project to understand how Teams Phone integrates with a contact center.

I want to understand the actual call flow, starting from dialing a phone number to the call reaching the contact center and being routed to a queue or agent.

I'd also like to understand how PSTN calling works and the differences between Operator Connect and Direct Routing.

Is there any way to simulate an actual call and experiment with this setup without needing a full production environment?

I currently have free trials for Teams Phone and the contact center, so I'm looking for ideas I can try with the resources I have.

Any suggestions, tutorials, or sample setups would be really helpful. Thanks!

Learning & Industry PL-400 to AB-400 transition: October 16 registration deadline and updated exam objectives

Registration for PL-400 closes October 16, and candidates registered within the permitted window can take the exam through October 30.

AB-400 becomes available October 16.

The certification remains Power Platform Developer Associate, but the updated exam includes more emphasis on Power Apps code apps, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry agents, and AI-powered development.

One thing worth reviewing is the official AB-400 study guide. It compares the existing and updated objectives, which should help candidates decide whether to finish PL-400 or switch their preparation.

Official source: Microsoft AB-400 study guide

For those currently preparing, are you planning to finish PL-400 or move to AB-400? Which updated areas are you spending the most time on?
