This is an experimental development build of Chromium Aurora, intended to collect feedback and bug reports.
Chromium Aurora is a new browser for PowerPC Macs, based on the open-source Chromium project.
Expect crashes, visual glitches, incomplete features, and performance issues. Testers should be comfortable troubleshooting problems, submitting crash reports, and working within the limitations listed below.
I am writing a longer, more technical post for the official release, which should be within the next couple of months. Long story short, this is Chromium 117, forked from Chromium Legacy project and ported to Leopard by me. The port covers everything - V8 with Maglev and TurboFan JIT tiers, Blink, Skia, ANGLE, WebAssembly, WebGL and more. It also includes hundreds of features, fixes and patches cherrypicked directly from upstream Chromium, including massively improved PWA support, over 15 CVE fixes, modern CSS/HTML compliance, and partial ES2026 JavaScript support. This was a monumental effort over 3 months in the making, and the first time the Chromium browser has ever been built for PowerPC Mac OS X.
The test build is available for download here: https://powerpc-ports.org/aurora/test/download
Automatic crash uploads and app updates are enabled by default. You can disable either at any time in Settings.

For support and ongoing discussion, join the Leopard Ports Discord! https://discord.gg/BRQENjRSVY
You can reply to this thread or reach out in the Discord and I'll look at your issue when I can.
Please include your G5 model, processor speed, RAM, graphics card, and Mac OS X version. Describe what happened, what you expected, and the steps needed to reproduce it.
Feedback on what works reliably is also appreciated, especially across G5 configurations that I don't have - iMac G5s, single-core PowerMac G5s, GeForce 6600 users, etc.c

Hmm
I know it says 10.6.8. Kernel version though is 12.5.0 which is mountain lions kernel rebuilt for PowerPC.

I made an app that lets you run some PowerPC apps on modern macs, currently there is only confirmed support for intel macOS Sequoia, i'm not able to test any other platform because I dont have the hardware to do so, but if you want to, you can get PowerBridge from my GitHub repo! https://github.com/miron302/PowerBridge

There has been a bit of efforts from the community trying to get JIT support for the PowerPC 970. Though not 100% perfect (there might be some hiccups now and then) the initiative has shaped up nicely over the last few months. You can find more information at https://github.com/runlevel5/firefox-ppc64/releases/tag/FIREFOX_153_5_0esr_RELEASE_PPC64 and who knows if this work would benefit the Firefox ports running on MacOS X

Had a graphics’s card go bad in my 867 titanium powerbook. After sourcing a new logic board i redid the pads and thermal paste. Also did my two 1 ghz models. Hope it will give them longer life. They aren’t to bad to take apart either which is good.

Hi, I have a major question. I'm not sure if it's normal for my PowerMac G4 MDD to be so loud—it is really noisy. I have a video so you can hear it. I want to know if there's any way to reduce the noise.

If these would work as a possible replacement for cube speakers? I mean replacing the actual woofer with the creative ones? They are only $25 cdn. I think its worth the try? My cube speakers foam is shot.

Since word has been spreading about this project, I figured it was time to properly showcase my upcoming port of Chromium for PowerPC Mac.
Introducing Chromium Aurora: a port of Chromium 117 for PowerPC Mac OS X, with extensive feature backports, security patches, compatibility work, and performance optimizations specifically targeting G5 hardware.

Aurora achieves several firsts for a PowerPC Mac web browser. It includes WebGL 1, experimental WebGPU support, a fully functional WebAssembly backend, and support for Progressive Web Apps.
The JavaScript engine has also received substantial work. Aurora is compliant with the ECMAScript 2026 standard, despite its Chromium 117 foundation, through the backporting and implementation of newer JavaScript features.
Several newer Chromium features have also been brought back, including Split View, Reading Mode, and Vertical Tabs.

Aurora also supports the Chrome 2023 UI redesign, along with Google services such as Sync and Cast.
For users who would prefer a completely independent browser, an alternate build called Aurora Zero will also be available with Google integrations removed.
Extension compatibility is already surprisingly strong. Complex extensions and web applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Shazam, password managers, developer tools, and other modern Chrome extensions are functional.
Performance has also been a major focus. Aurora currently scores over 7,000 in Octane on G5 hardware, with further optimization work still ongoing.
Chromium Aurora supports all PowerPC G5 systems running Mac OS X 10.5.4 or later.
G4 systems are not supported.
There is still work to be done before release, but Aurora is getting very close.
Coming soon.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the project, feel free to leave them below and I'll do my best to answer them.

Available via PowerPC Ports.
Disclaimer: Consider it a development version; it does not run smooth yet, and some sites will refuse to load.

Playing this on my 2400c… cant beat this guy lol.. anyone know how??

It actually plays a 1080p VP9 now. With a bit of lagging with default settings, but better than I expected from a G4. (AV1 at 4k is not playable, I checked out of curiosity. Miracles don’t happen. But on G5 that kinda works.)
gpu-next confirmed to work on the ATI (all previous testing was on Nvidia on G5).
AltiVec added to ffmpeg is doing well.
Installable from PowerPC Ports as mpv-devel at the moment. (I haven’t switched regular mpv to Cocoa GUI yet.)
