I find the irony of sharing this perspective, yet I feel compelled to express thoughts that have been on my mind. I am interested in doing so regardless of the irony....
My opinion is that social media has enabled a culture of unsolicited commentary where people feel entitled to weigh in on matters that do not concern them. It has created a strange superiority complex; individuals use these platforms to broadcast opinions and lifestyle critiques;whether it is policing something as trivial as other people's sleep habits (one that I had seen recently) or judging personal routines; acting as though their subjective preferences are universal standards.
People treat harmless, unrelated choices as personal burdens simply because they feel "obligated" to voice thoughts no one asked for. Which it truly drives them to validation loop. When in aome instances when a opinion or thought is shared and a chord of people agree, it offers a quick rush of validation which encourages them to share even more content, pushing them further into a false sense of security. However, this can backfire; the more comfortable they become at broadcasting their unfiltered thoughts, the less guarded they become. Eventually, that content hits the wrong audience or crosses a line, and the backlash is swift...leading to public scrutiny, apathy, or being "canceled" entirely, etc. Which at one point made them feel untouchable becomes their undoing.
I know someone is going to point out the obvious: '"You’re on here doing the exact same thing, so you're just as guilty". And honestly? Fair. By just being on this platform, I'm participating in the same thing; however, there’s a difference between using these spaces to broadcast your ego and using them to "watch the chaos". I’m not here to police anyone's life choices or chase likes to feel validated. I'm mostly just here because I find human behavior fascinating, and I like seeing how other people think, as well as exchanging or expanding ideas. The irony doesn't escape me though, I'm looking at a broken system while standing right in the middle of it. But maybe acknowledging that is all we can really do before the algorithm feeds us another round of brain rot....
