Experimental B&W photos

Did a photoshoot for a friend and can’t decide which edit of B&W I want to go with. I really enjoy the kind of blown out whites on the first with the deeper blacks but the second has better readability of the image.

I'm trying to buy a new camera to do this kind of photo, which one should I choose ?

My budget is around $100-200, I’m in France but coming to New York soon so worldwide is fine.
It’s my first time buying a camera so I really want to be sure that I buy the right thing.
It’s mainly for my clothing brand and I’m trying to only do photography.

Can anybody help me ?
I know these pictures are not all the same style but if someone knows which cameras are best for these styles please let me know :))
Someone talked to me about the Olympus Pen E-PL1 but I'm not sure it's really what I'm looking for..

How can I make this look better?

Any advice on how to make this look better? I think it’s a really cool photo with the cool tones and textures, but is it missing something? It’s already cropped and edited a little, as well. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

How do you know that your equipment is holding you back or is just a problem with skill ?

I have a D5100 paired with a 35mm 1.8 and another 28-75mm 2.8 with no stabilization. I am stating to get somewhat decent at the basics but still struggle sometimes, but recently I got my hands on a Z5 and all the shots that I was normally struggling with were getting perfect with so much less effort.

So my question kinda is that by keeping the 5100 am I holding by developing back ? Instead of spending time trying to counter my struggles with trying to focus moving objects, fighting the autofocus in low light and lack of stabilization, I could focus more of getting the shot that I want, so is this a case where my old camera is holding me back or just skill issue ?

need help with selecting photos for art supplement!

Hi, I'm applying to universities, and I have the option of submitting 5 photographs for an art supplement. Now, my photography isn't professional, and I'm stuck on selecting the best 5 from 12 pictures.

If anyone (preferably with experience) could just look over my photographs and tell me the best ones, it would really help me out!

Thank you

Edit: I shortlisted the 12 pictures

Backdrop set up advice, please

Hi,

I am trying to set up a photography booth for taking photos of stock. (Plants for sale)

As it is only needed occasionally, I am trying to set up a back drop system where it can be rolled up down and not in the way when not in use.

I did buy a Neewer 3 axis roller system, as I definitely need two rollers at least (i need to black out the bright grow lights that are behind the backdrop).

I didnt realise that the size of the fitting on the rollers was so niche, and planned to get steel tube from the hardware store to use, but it's all too small. The only thing I could find was 50mm PVC pipe and it too large and at a 2.5m span, not rigid enough.

The actual product I need is $75x2 and $50 shipping. And I am hoping to avoid that. https://photo-shop-studio.com.au/backgrounds/fotolux-ss-3x1m-48mm-dia-stainless-steel-hollow-tube-for-paper-roll-cloth-b-g-support/?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=22795800841&gbraid=0AAAAAC59szrynBfHbCLyyV4h3-PYMDiS5&gclid=CjwKCAjwi-zWBhAdEiwAqlRf-NbA1OcNW1lSWYvS92u7cNhLJOS4nZmSK1M6enbSc3108m1mVnyRXBoCowwQAvD_BwE

So, this is where i am stuck and am looking for advice. Before we start designing and 3d printing, sleeves and bushes only to give up when it doesnt work and buy the legit product anyway.

I am hesitant to go for a background that comes with a roller that fits as my setup requires the tube to be longer than the back drop itself and I dont think that is an option. And most of the ones I see are paper, and I am dealing with plants and water...

Has anyone been in a similar situation and found a solution?

I added a pic as i am sure I make very little sense LOL. But the rollers will be mounted above the back shelf, and fit between the two side shelves and over the table. Please ignore my mess, :D

The 2nd pic is my dodgy set up from the last time I took pictures just to give you an idea. I have a better lighting set up now.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Advice needed for starting out

Hi. Long time lurker. Short time subscriber. First time poster.

I am starting out photography for fun. My daughter is getting into photography and struggles with anything that may draw attention to her so I thought it would be good to buddy up.

I am building a portfolio I suppose of photos and need advice. I'm hoping to pass this on to my daughter but don't want to give the wrong advice. I am not pretending to know all we are very open I have said to her I am going to ask for help!

First, storage and sharing. I made a Flickr account. For me I wanted to have a small collection of photos that were more curated. Examples of what I have include some architecture photos, some patterny random photos, some animals and some street photos. I thought I could make albums of 20 photos from every "shoot" like mini projects. So I went to a museum that's a folder with 20 photos. I call it "Casa de los Balcones". But then another folder has animals, but then my first folder had an animal in it. I am drawn to taking photos of buildings but they cross "shoots" but are related. How do I store this. If I had 20 photos for my museum album, but some of those were architecture photos, how do I group those so I have 20 of each.

Second. And last I think. I am horrifically colourblind. I have been taking jpeg and raw. Editing the raw files using Rapidraw then comparing what I do to the jpeg. I don't want to hamper my kid or force her in to a workflow that is crap when she is not colourblind. Any advice hints or tips?

Sorry this is a lot to read. I am happy to take any suggestions or anything. I could post some photos if that helps maybe with the jpeg and my edit. For info I have a canon 50d, an 18-135 canon stm lens, and a 50mm f1.8 stm lens. She has a 4000d, those lenses (duplicates) plus a kit lens 18-55 and a sigma 55-200ish (I can't remember the zoom). I bought two of each lens thinking we could have "challenges" like 50mm only for today etc.

Hello all!
I am a photographer traveling through SE Asia and in need of some help. I have a cpl that I can’t get off my Canon lens… So I am in need of an 82mm filter wrench. I am in Chiang Mai at the moment. Have tried all the tricks I’ve seen on here but it is still stuck.
