📣📣Rants and Raves📣📣 Double parking in the bike lane is apparently a better parking spot than the actual parking spot.
And yes the spot was massive and easily park-able if you can’t tell from the angle

Historic Philadelphia [PhillyMag] Fight at the Museum: Inside the Collapse of the Academy of Natural Sciences
...The most cynical of advocates have expressed concerns that Drexel is letting this place wither and die, so that its museum and world-renowned specimen collections can be sold off for parts.
But a review of the Academy’s tax filings and interviews with nine current and former ANS employees, as well as advocates and industry professionals, suggest there is a more complicated story here. It begins with the Academy as an institution struggling to move on from its origins as a club for wealthy white gentlemen — one too rooted in history to adapt to the changing expectations of a modern natural history museum, and perhaps too proud to ask for help.
It ends with a series of missteps by Academy leadership, and punctuated by a cold shoulder from current Drexel president Antonio Merlo, who took over in 2025 with a mandate to clean up Drexel’s own struggling finances and inherited a liability on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
And along with leadership of the Academy and Drexel, there’s a third party in the room: Philadelphians. Wound through 25 years of ANS tax filings is the unmistakable fact that the Academy has long been taking on water, even before the 2011 affiliation, and that stagnating visitation and a precipitous drop in donations over the past decade only made the problem worse....

Serious Can someone write an /rOutOfTheLoop-style comment explaining what the heck happened at Marsha's?
I just read this story in the Inquirer and it is clear that the owner had a problem with an employee. But the story doesn't explain exactly was behind the employee's accusations. Can anyone explain it with an unbiased description of what happened?

Serious PGW planning to expand LNG production from Port Richmond Plant
As you can imagine lots of us in Port Richmond aren’t thrilled by this plan, especially given that PGW is a publicly owned utility that doesn’t really seem to listen to… the public. Hope people can find the time in their schedules to come out for this!

Question? Dental Recommendations/Suggestions?
I've lost a filling, so I need to get that dealt with ASAP.
The problems:
- I don't have an established dentist in Philly.
- I'm currently unemployed, so I'm not in the position to pay for a ton of additional dental work should I happen to need it.
I'm looking for recommendations for a dentist that will take care of the filling for a reasonable cost without forcing me into a ton of other work.
I don't need free dental work or a low-cost clinic; I just need a reasonably-priced, non-pushy dentist. (I'm under the impression an emergency dentist will cost an arm and a leg?) Someplace within the city that I can get to easily via SEPTA, preferably.
Any recs?
Thanks, all.

Question? restaurants to work at??
moved back to the area after like 7 years at the beginning of the summer but grew up in west chester and have been living in there since moving back. havent spent enough time in the city to really know where to look. im moving closer to the city next month and looking for recs for restaurants / bars to work at in philadelphia / possibly manayunk if the money's there. mainly looking for bartending but would be open to serving if i have to pick up a shift or two (i know some restaurants require bartenders to serve too). not really looking for full serving jobs (no bartending) unless i cant find anything else. would prefer to work in a restaurant bar rather than a bar/club so im not getting out at 3am but again im open to whatever just looking for ideas of where to apply. i just need to get out of my current job - i dont make enough and its not worth the 10 minute commute now so it definitely wont be worth the 45 minute commute once i move.

Transit Pleasantly surprised
There are 4 bus lines that run down my street and people stop on this corner all the time (next to a school) which prevents them from turning. It's not much, but they redid the road with these and some raised crossings. Small things like this could save those lines hours over a year (and stop them honking at 6am)

📣📣Rants and Raves📣📣 Telephone Pole Replacement @ 2:30 AM?
So, for the past few months, they’ve been replacing telephone poles in East Falls. In general it hasn’t been too much of a hassle, some parking disruptions and traffic headaches, but that all comes with the territory.
Last night we saw them pull up and stage on Cresson Street in the early evening, and begin work shortly afterwards at probably around 7:30 pm, and just figured they’re getting in some overtime hours. They worked for a couple of hours and we didn’t think much of it.
Then, all of a sudden at 2:15 AM my wife and I both heard some loud noises, got woken up and initially thought someone was trying to break into the house, but no, the telephone pole folks were back and worked for a few hours in the wee hours of the morning. As they progressed down the block, they probably woke up every household.
I’m all for the improvements and work being done, but seriously, 2:30 AM? I don’t understand the goddam urgency and lack of consideration for the folks living in the neighborhood.

Do Attend Filming locations of a music video - "Mickey Don't Pose" by God of War
Sirius XMU has been playing this song non-stop. Looked them up to see they were from Philly and saw the music video shows the city. Wondering where these were shot.
I assume the Million Dollars sign was put up for the video?
Estrella is on 52nd Street, that's easy to find.
No clue about the 3rd one.
4th and 5th I feel like I passed by that water ice shop a good amount of times but not 100%. Bus says "no passengers" so it's not helpful.
I assume they may all be West since one is definitely West? Not sure.
