I am on my 4th or 5th rewatch. I am not sure they started out making a science fiction AI show, I think it was more of the premise to build a serialized cop show more original. But why on earth they keep referring to the central plot device as "the machine" is beyond me. It has to be an intentional choice by the writers, else naming it just seems like this obvious step in development. The rival AI being called "Samaritan"--that should've been the first "machine's" name and the name of the whole show. I mean, just grammatically and semantically, middle of dialogue, it feels like a missing piece and makes conversations about "the machine" confusing. A new viewer tuning in when it was on TV would be completely lost and have no chances of catching up, simply because the thing they're talking about is so unembodied in the plot and dialogue.
