Part 6! Part 6 of my âWhat if Percy has a psychopathic twin brother?â Drabble series! You can read the previous post here. We have Clarisseâs POV and itâs in one of my favorite parts of Lighting Thief: Capture the Flag scene!
WARNING: Just to be on the safe side, there is blood, violence, injury + the twins being a little⊠feral. I donât think I can write fight scenes that well, but this is a Drabble so you can have low expectations.
Anyways, letâs go:
Clarisse was already scowling by the time the horn went off.
So what if she dragged a group of her siblings with her? She already accounted for the flag to be protected. Plus, she was heading for those two runts that made a fool out of her. Winning is great, but revenge is sweet.
She still didnât know what the Hades happened. Those two scrawny boys with Wise Girl had the nerve to talk back to her, and then they even attempted to fight back. She gotta admit, they got spunk, but they were overpowered quite easily with her putting one of the twins in a headlock and jabbing the other in the gut and gripping his hair. It was also easy as she got two of her sisters to help. She was just about to give those two a good damn swirly but then the freaking pipes shot out and splashed everyone but them.
Clarisseâs face still gets red with anger as she remembered how the twins fell back laughing at her and her sisters, who were completely dretched in toliet water (Ew!).
So yeah, Clarisse was going to teach those two a lesson. She just got to find them.
Well, it didnât take long. The two annoyances were on Zephyros Creek, seemingly on boarder patrol. It must be a trap of some kind, but from the looks of it, they were completely alone, not to mention itâs only been, what, days, a week at most, that theyâve been here, meaning that they didnât have enough training.
Clarisse smirked as she motioned the other campers to cross the creek. The moment they advanced, the twinsâ attention snapped back to them, apprehension in their stances. One of them (Peter? Percy? Eh, Prissy sounds better) gripped his shield while the other (damn, she forgot his name, Phil something?) starred daggers at them, a hand on the otherâs shoulder.
âSo, um-â Prissy stammered, obviously intimidated. âHey. What are you guys⊠doing here?â
Clarisse scoffed. âWhat does it look like?â
Phil (thatâs his name, right?) spoke up. âA gang.â
Prissy pointed at him. âYeah, second that.â
Her face turned dark. The boysâ faces turned a little more nervous now. She knew that look from anywhere. They were getting ready to run like the cowards they were. Clarisse wouldnât give them a chance.
âCharge!â She yelled.
The twins were soon surrounded. They fought back but with five against two, they were quickly overwhelmed. She then pulled out her fatherâs gift to her: Maimer, an electric spear.
Prissy held onto Phil as they tried, emphasis on tried, to get away, but with the slashes that already were bleeding, they were weak. âH-Hey! Chiron said no maiming!â
Clarisse shrugged. âOops. Guess I lost my dessert privileges.â
And then she jabbed Prissy, or at least tried to. She got Phil instead, who managed to twist their bodies so he got hit instead.
âPhil!â Prissy yelled. Phil groaned, his body twitching. Yeah, that ainât going to go away soon.
Prissy turned to her with a scowl and he picked up his sword and lunged. She parried the sword easily and knocked him down. The twins were then pushed into the creek as they all laughed. And for a sweet moment, Clarisse felt satisfied.
Until one of her siblings had their helmet knocked clean off in the next second and is now laying down in the creek, groaning but not getting up.
She turned around just in time to see the twins getting back up, and then they charged at the rest of them. Their faces were a masked of determination. Two of her siblings faced them. One twin ducked and then slammed his shield into one of them and knocked them to the ground. The other twin, the one whoâs grinning (the hell?), slashed his sword at her brotherâs arm, and before her brother could even finish a yelp, the grinning twin kicked him and slammed the butt of his sword to the side of his head, well, helmet.
Clarisseâs grip tightened on her spear. What is going on?! she thought. They were stumbling like new baby deers or something but now they were fighting like they were training forever. She was not going to lose to some new campers over a fluke!
She launched herself at the nearest twin, the electricity ready. Before she could reach him, pain shot through her side. She stumbled and turned to see a murderous glare that seemed to make his eyes brighter(?).
âYou are not going to touch my brother, again!â
She picked herself. She gave a glance to her right side. Her armor had a huge dent, and she can feel a throbbing ache on the right side of her abdomen. Did- Did Percy almost stab her through her armor?! Dam, it hurts, and itâll probably bruise too. And from the looks of it, Percy knows as well as he looked at her her with a mixed look. Something disgustingly close to regret. Pity.
âNot my fault your brotherâs an easy target!â She shot back.
Whatever expression he was making washed away as his eyes narrowed. He attacked and she blocked it a few times. His movements were vicious but they were still a little sloppy. She managed to get more space before rearing her arm back. Surely, surely she can make it! There was an open-
Someone kicked the back of her knee. She yelled and then her hair was yanked and she was suddenly tasting sand. She sputtered and looked up. A smiling face greeted her.
âYou forgot me,â Phil said simply, letting go of her hair. Behind him was yet another knocked out Ares kid, the fourth one who had kept Phil occupied.
Clarisse looked forward. Her spear was in Percyâs shield and then he pulled it. He twisted it in his grip before he snapped her spear, her gift from Ares, from her father, in half using his shield.
Clarisse felt her heart drop. Outwardly, she screamed at them, spewing out curses at the damn twins who made a fool out of her. Phil paid her no mind, moving to take his place next to Percy, who was looking at her but his attention was quickly on Phil. Philâs eyes were sparkling now, almost ecstatic. That made her feel a chill. While she felt good about winning before, this was something much weirder. It didnât help that she could perfectly hear their conversation.
Philâs face was of pure adoration at he looked at Percy. âThat was so awesome! Did you see what we did?â
âYeah,â Percy muttered, still holding on the remains of her spear.
Percyâs lackluster response made Phil groan. âWhy do you look sad? You just beat the s- um, crap out of- wait, whatâs her name?â
He doesnât even remember her name?! What the actual-
Phil waved a hand dismissively. âWhatever. Either way, you did good.â He sighed. âThis was a good rush. I havenât had this much fun since elementary school! Remember that time I beat up JosĂ© until his face was blue? Now that was pretty fun.â
Clarisse blinked. First of all, what the Hades? Second of all, this was the first time Phil ever spoken more than a sentence since he got here. He was supposed to be moody. What is this?
âHaving swords makes it less fun though. Iâd rather make them hurt myself, you know?â He scoffed. âOh well. I have other chances. You think we can do it again? Oh!â He clapped his hands. âYou think theyâd have brass knuckles here? Iâve been dying to try punching something!â
Clarisse wanted to scream again. Just what the heck is wrong is them, specifically Creep over there?! Did he- Did he genuinely enjoy everything? She suddenly remembered that grin, those dark eyes that seemed to finally look alive, and she held her tongue because that kid is not normal in the slightest, even by demigod standards. She knows bloodlust, but this creep seems almost eager, almost wanting a high or something. (In the back of her mind, it reminded her of monsters.)
Percy dropped the remains of her spear in the water. He pulled Creep into a hug. Whatever was said next was too low but it ended with Creepâs expression going blank before another smile, this time more small, was shown. He ruffled Percyâs hair gently as they both continued to whisper, completely ignoring everything else in favor of being in their own little world.
Gods, this whole thing was a mess, and it also didnât help that her team lost as well as the Blue Team grabbed her teamâs flag. The team cheered as her team grumbled, some even throwing their weapons to the ground. This whole thing was a trick after all.
All she could do was bit the inside of her mouth. She was going to avoid those brothers when this is done. She wasnât scared! She wasnât a coward! She just need to lay down, just for a moment, and finally breathe.
Freaks, the both of them.
Bonus! :)
Percy was angry, more angry than he ever felt. He hadnât felt this angry in a long while. It wasnât the anger he was used to; it was something burning like acid.
âYou were there the whole time,â he hissed out, âand you didnât help at all?â
Annabeth, who was just invisible mind you, at least had the courtesy to look away. âI was going to help you but then you two got back up so I stayed hidden. You two didnât need help.â
âWe couldâve died!â Percy snapped. Philip next to him only stayed silent, seemingly more focused on Percyâs anger.
(The water in the creek rippled behind them. Philip held Percyâs hand. The water calmed before anyone even noticed a thing.)
âI couldâve lost my brother!â
âIt was all part of my strategy! Clarisse wouldnât have killed you two. At worst, you two would be in the infirmary.â
Percy scoffed. He found that very hard to believe. Philip was stabbed with an electric spear. It was coming for him but Philip switched them at the last moment. Sure, Philip didnât seem that hurt now (as well as Percy. Weird) but still. Percy felt that same helplessness with their mom when he couldnât stop that Minotaur. And just minutes ago, he thought he failed again. Maybe thatâs why he snapped that spear in the moment it wasnât in Clarisseâs grip. She was going in for a second time. He would never have a repeat of what happened.
Annabeth continued, looking at both at them with mild surprise. âYour injuriesâŠâ
âWhat about them?â
She pointed at his right arm. âLook.â
Percy looked at his arm where a slash happened. To his shock, instead of the bloodly line he expected, there was just a thin stretch. And before long, it vanished before his eyes.
He looked at Philip, whoâs bruised elbow was turning from an aching red back to their share tanned skin tone.
âWhat?â Philip muttered, being just as confused as Percy was.
Annabeth took a step back. âStep out of the water. Both do you.â
With great reluctance, they did. Percyâs limbs suddenly felt heavy all of a sudden. Philip grabbed him by the arm but Percy saw the tired look on his face too. Whatever this was, it was something weird. And whatever this was made Annabethâs face drain of color.
You would think it ended there, but no. The three heard a growl and turned to face a giant black hound with red eyes and fangs too long that shouldnât belong to a dog of any sort.
Whatever that monster was, it launched itself straight at Percy. Percy felt himself being pulled back and suddenly Philip was in front of him. Percy cried out a âNo!â but Philip reared his fist back and-
SMACK!
It was a sick, wet sound that made Percy cringe. The hound let out a growl as it staggered back. Philip winced, muttering a curse word that would make Mom disappointed. His knuckles was turning a deep purple, bleeding, and his hand was shaking a lot. The hound finally gathered itself up and, looking more mad than before, made another attempt at them but before it could, arrows landed inside its neck, killing it instantly.
Percy let out a breath as he held on Philip. He ignored the yells around them as he focused on Philipâs hand.
âI think I need ice,â Philip muttered.
Yeah right, he needs something more than that. Do they even have painkillers here? They should. Bandages too. Percy only knows basic first aid so he has to act quick. Now, where is-
âPhilip, please get in the water. Both of you actually.âAnnabeth said. âChiron, just look!â
âWhy should I-â
Annabeth cut Philip off with an almost desperate look. âJust do it.â
Philip stared at her. Then, he took more and more steps backwards into the creek. Percy followed, and something in his chest loosened as they did. Philipâs hand soon returned back to normal, and it even flexed normally. The rest of Percyâs cuts vanished away too, as if he was never in the fight to begin with.
Everyone was staring at them, then they started to kneel one by one. Percy looked up to find a green glowing trident above him and Philipâs heads.
âPoseidon. Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail Perseus and Philippos Jackson, the Sons of the Sea God.â
Well, at least that answered who their dad was.
