Video This is a Tongue Drum. Very basic and I listen to it after I did it and it sounds nice. It’s not a loud thing. Hopefully you can enjoy it, I did.🎁👍

Purchasing a concert snare drum

I am looking for strong opinions on a concert snare drum for orchestral playing, mostly. Somewhere around $1200. It is a gift for a very talented player. I have my own thoughts (I am a percussionist, too), but I wonder what you all think. If your opinion is to let them pick, that’s fine and I totally get that. But, that’s not what I am looking for. Just advice and opinions!

Question/Help Tenor Drum Tryout Help

Hello, do any tenor drum people have any tips to help me out getting on tenors (I'm in 8th grade and on them currently for junior high stuff, and I'm hoping to get them freshman year, which will be a really hard task because we have a ton of great players with also more experience, so I need GOOD help, and if this helps, my marching endurance is my weakest point, but idk how to improve it) Thanks!

Question/Help Help with pricing and selling mallets?

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well! this community helped me a lot with pieces researching but I don’t know if it’s the right place to ask for help with pricing and selling. Sorry if not, feel free to ignore me ahah.

I’m interested in selling my first mallets, the ones I used when I first started playing 🥹

do you have any advice on how much I should price them (could be for the single pair or for the whole set, I just desperately need advice ahah) and on where I could sell? (I’m in Europe!)

thank you in advance!

Question/Help Question for those who teach private lessons

If you had the chance to teach lessons at a facility that had all of the equipment you could want, including orchestral, marching, and drumline, would you rather set your own lesson times and prices and pay a rent fee each time you teach there, or work for the facility and receive a flat rate for each lesson you teach but you don't have to find students?

For this example, let's use these numbers.

If you are finding your own lesson, you would pay 10 dollars for each different lesson you teach. A lesson being any time you teach someone and they pay you money for it. So you could charge 60 and take home 50.

If you are a hired teacher. You are put on a list, and people could come by looking for lessons. Let's say there are enough students that you are able to have as many as you want a week. For each lesson, you receive 15 dollars per 30 minute lesson you are assigned.

Which option would you choose and why?

I kinda fell in love with this thing. It's so hypnotic to listen to and to play. I wrote this while playing around with it. (Key of D)

Can anyone identify what "watery" percussion instrument is being used here?

I'm struggling to find the name of what sounds like a cymbal of varying pitch being dipped in and out of water at the beginning of this track from Fantastic Planet. I hear it often in 70s soundtracks.

Question/Help Stand advice for backline conga kit

Production company owner here. Just picked up conga/quinto/tumba kit from a client, they're nice drums. Came with no stands. We do some backline rental and I need to pull this into a kit that will be broadly acceptable to any visiting musicians who would rent.

What's the best stand option here? These drums don't have any mounts and they are vintage so I'd prefer not to drill them.

DO I need a three drum stand or just a double?

Will ring stands work?

Also the drums could probably use new heads. The Tumba has a nice head that appears to be real skin but the other 2 drums heads look a bit old, dirty, etc. What are the best options there? Is head material a big deal? Remo fyberskin?

Am I making a bigger deal out of this than I should be?

Question/Help How to Structure a Percussion Lesson for Beginner Band?

My band director has given us the opportunity to run clinics for a middle school beginner band, and I’ve been put in charge of running a one hour percussion clinic for a small group of kids (lowkey only one person has signed up though as of now). I was wondering what I should include in this clinic and how I should approach teaching overall. I want to leave the kids I teach with a sense of excitement to keep learning percussion and a proper stepping stone into the percussion world.

Edit: I have access to my school’s entire percussion section, including keyboards, drum pads, timpani, etc.

I just bought this big and nice LP cowbell for next to nothing. The seller said it's 30 years old or so. Inside there is a signature applied with a marker. It weighs 1022 grams and it's 8 inches long. Does anybody have any idea which model is this or from which era? Thank you.
