Serious Discussion Old GenZ (late 90s), do you relate better to millennials?

I find the post 2000 Zoomers have a very distinct set of fashion, humour and overall attitude to life. There’s nothing bad about this at all.

Personally, I find myself relating more to young millennials. In school they were the ones we looked up to, tried to befriend, and often ended up emulating.

Also depending on when you entered the workforce, millennials were often the ones we had as mentors.

I also feel some of us entered a weird job market, just like how millennials entered a post GFC world.

Advice how are you all coping with daily life?

I’ve been working for 3.5 years in corporate. It feels like a lifetime. I can’t believe I’ve been working the same amount of time I was in college. It just feels unreal and I have a hard time accepting it. All my friends are getting married and rather than feeling happy for them, I just feel kinda sad cuz it means they will just become another married corporate cog in the machine and so will their future children. They will slowly make less and less time for me and other single friends. I can’t put my finger on why high school and college were amazing for me and not this chapter of life. I have an amazing paying stable job (knock on wood), I have close friends, I have my family. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman and I feel that disgusting intense societal saying that women at 24/25 are ā€œwashed upā€ and ā€œpast their peakā€. I look at teens and college students out in my town and I see them as children. Genuine youth. I remember thinking I was so old when I turned 21. I felt like a dinosaur. Crazy how now I feel like 21 is a child. I think it’s my draining corporate job that makes me feel this way but I also can’t say for sure. I also have had thoughts about quitting this job and doing something entirely new but it feels too late (I don’t wanna state my age but I’m younger than 27). Anyone else wanna chime in and share their feelings? It’s just all so confusing.

Other Looking for an old Facebook auto-battler game

• Upvotes

Looking for an old Facebook game from around 2008-2012. It was a medieval auto-battler with flat top-down 2D sprites (looking straight down from above, no city building at all). The screen had a square deployment grid on the left and your available soldiers on the right. Positioning was key, you could place bards in the middle of your formation to buff the morale and stats of the surrounding units. Battles were blind: you only saw the enemy army after hitting start, at which point they fought automatically. I also remember the game logo had red and white. Anyone know what this was called?

Advice Anyone still in uni?

Hey.
I’ve been seeing a lot of hard core ADULT stuff here and I just wondered if some of you are still in university and not fully fledged adults with real responsibilities yet. I am 25M, still living with my parents, final year of my bachelors, still feeling like a child and a fallire because of how behind I am compared to everyone else.

I come from Northern Europe btw, it’s quite common to take a gap year or repeat a year in uni or high school because of the high work load. I started uni at 21, but made bad choices and picked a very demanding university and had to drop out due to not passing all my courses despite working hard and studying as much as possible.

I changed uni and I’m getting good grades now but man I really hate my life. I miss being independent like I was I my old uni, I hate living with my parents even though god bless them they still support me financially and don’t really cause much trouble.
I know I’m privileged to still be supported by my family, but I feel shame and guilt over it.

Anyone also in my position? Would love to have different perspectives.

Nostalgia Pop culture differences I think define young and old genz

These are just random differences I’ve noticed as an older Gen z gal (B.2000) with a few younger gen z friends ( b.2004 ).

  1. Music streaming being normalized , I grew up with iPods and Mp3 players as I’m sure much of older gen z did as well. I still have an iPod and never really got used to the idea or streaming nor do I care to use my phone for music but I’ve noticed a lot of younger gen z ( and millennials lmao) use spotify , Apple Music etc rather than just download mp3s lol.

2.Lin manue-miranda this one may be oddly specific lmao but I feel like he had a super big resurgence after Hamilton and in the heights but I knew him from the 2009 revival of electric company ( anyone else ??) lol. I also can’t stand Hamilton or in the heights 😬. his spoken word rap thing worked in electric company but I haven’t liked his other works lmao

  1. John M.Chu I mainly knew him for his work on the Justin Bieber movies , step up and the music tours he did lol. I feel though like a lot of younger gen-z may know him from wicked or crazy rich Asians.

  2. Charli XCX , do the kids remember famous ??? Boom clap ??? Fancy ??? Doin’ it ?? lol the commercialized charli was soemthing else. Then she disappeared and came back as the current version lol I feel like it’s a vast differences for the older and younger charli listeners but could just be me again.

  3. Influencer culture / trends. Back in the early 2010s someone would get popular or trend would happen a few times a year and that’d be the news in the end-of-year wrap up. The nay nay , on fleek , running man challenge, malvin gregg, joe sugg etc. it was every once in a while that something would become trendy or make the front page now it seems as if every instant the trend changes or the new person is being glorified for mundane daily things 🄲🤣. It used to be acceptable to leave people on the internet where they belong ( but we won’t get into that 🤐)

  4. social Media definitely changed in a massive way and I think tiktok and shorts showcase huge age divide as well. Back in my day we’d watch blog or get ready with me’s and it was amazing if you’d find a good 30+ min Video to watch while getting ready or cleaning etc now everything’s a sped up 2minute overly performative information dump.

lol idk if orhers agree but these are just some things I’ve noticed.

Rant Some of my coworkers make me realize why older gens who deal with them would claim Gen Z doesn't want to work 🫣.

The lack of work ethic and independence is astonishing. I swear I am 26 and I feel like I'm hand holding coworkers 2 or 3 years younger than me. I'm not even the manager but if I don't tell them to do something it won't get done. They have to have everything spelled out for them. They also just either sleep at their desks or watch Tiktok all day unless they are specifically told to do something or the task is due the next day. It's so unprofessional and I can understand why older generations would complain about them. It sucks because we aren't all this way but the bad apples always shine through.

Edit: We all make over the minimum wage for our state by over $6. Our salaries are funded by property taxes because we are local government. We also have great benefits ie: insurance and vacation time.

Rant I'm so glad I found this sub-reddit

Recently I have been thinking more about my age and how I'm getting older. While also comparing myself alot to others around my age. Feeling so behind and on top of that those Instagram nostalgic reels make me feel even more sad.

But after going through this sub, I feel so much better and calm. I came across so many posts that brought back nice memories. Reading people's comments and insights brought some peace.

Even writing this out makes me feel better. Whoever reads this sorry for wasting your time. This is such a useless post, it will probably be deleted by the mods anyways.

Other Asking a different question from the usual posts - what’s a GOOD thing (or multiple) you’ve noticed about this new generation (Zoomers/Alpha/etc)?

I’ve seen enough ā€œTHIS GENERATION IS HORRIBLE AND ENTITLED AND COOKED, EVEN THOUGH THERE’S NO WAY MOST OF US ARE OVER 30 IN THIS SUBREDDITā€ posts, so I’m posting something different. Hence the title.

For me, some good things about this new generation are that they don’t mindlessly follow AI trends (edit: ofc some of them do, like the kids who use ChatGPT to do their homework, but apparently younger gens are also not blindly following AI as much) and that some of them (older Zoomers, I think) are very into analog stuff and ā€œgrandma hobbiesā€ and the 2000s. It’s nice that they too see how good those times were.

Thoughts? I’ll also post this in [r/zillennials](r/zillennials), probably.

Edit: a word
