1970s The U.S. pushes a wary Israel to the peace table (December 21, 1973 | © The Observer via The Toronto Star)
fpholyland.substack.com"It was at this point, with Israeli ground forces established only 30 miles from Damascus and 50 from Cairo, the missile defences largely destroyed and the Egyptian and Syrian air forces decimated, that the Russians and the Americans, desperate to call a ceasefire before Egyptian resistance collapsed, made Israel an offer it could not refuse."

1970s "Conceptual art" hoax enrages San Franciscans, foreshadows modern phishing/DDoS attacks [1971]
galleryA forgotten act of “conceptual art” in 1971, as ridiculous as it was, and as forgotten as it is, presaged the use of mass media in protest, use Denial-of-Service attacks, and spam mail schemes. The Bay area art collective Sam's Cafe staged a "Media Inversion", sending out 20,000 fake collection notices to San Franciscans with the intent of jamming phone lines at media outlets and Bank of America. They also sent elaborate press kits to the media containing their "Sacred Stools." Ultimately, they were acquitted of mailing obscene materials when the state's own witness conceded it was art.

fpholyland.substack.comThe work was also fully understood and correctly judged by the Italian public. This was proven by the stormy applause that crowned the screening, which was once again attended by all notable personalities from the Italian and German sides staying in Venice. At the end of the performance, the audience singled out director Veit Harlan, Christina Söderbaum, and Ferdinand Marian with lively special applause.
