Iโm genuinely curious what people in Ottawa think about this because I honestly cannot believe how some people treat others.
Iโm pregnant, and I was getting on the OC Transpo 57 heading towards Tunneyโs Pasture. The bus was completely packed, with barely any room to stand, let alone find somewhere to sit.
I noticed two guys sitting together and politely asked if one of them would mind giving up their seat because Iโm pregnant and was having a hard time standing on the moving bus.
One of them looked at me and straight up said, โBeing pregnant was your choice.โ
I honestly didnโt even know how to respond. But what made it worse was when he turned to his friend and said, โItโs not my fault she decided to have a baby when she canโt even afford a car.โ
They both started laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world.
I wasnโt asking anyone to treat me like royalty. I understand that nobody knows what someone else might be going through, and I donโt automatically expect everyone to give up their seat. But the disrespect was completely unnecessary.
I ended up standing there feeling embarrassed while they continued laughing and talking amongst themselves.
Iโm genuinely wondering, has basic courtesy on public transit disappeared? Am I wrong for expecting someone to at least be respectful when asking for a seat?
What would you have done in this situation?
