Yale x Nest: Battery drain

Been extremely skeptical for a while now, didn’t care enough but now I am just beyond frustrated with this stupid lock. This a just a few months’ worth of batteries. It constantly drains batteries like crazy. Is it bad batteries? Or this lock really goes through batteries like this? These Amazon batteries are just some of what I’ve used, I’ve tried energizer brand before too. Same crap. Does anyone else have these battery drain issues? Absolutely ridiculous.

Nest Protect recycle

They also screwed up the recycling option.
Google offers recycling for old Nest products. I’ve submitted multiple requests and still haven’t received the promised shipping labels.
My online chat today with Google was comical, circular, and a waste of time.
Anyone having success with recycling?

Troubleshooting Nest App Still Down!

I recently upgraded my wifi hardware and lost contact with my Nest Protects. The only way to get them to reconnect is with the Nest app. I wish the Google home app worked.

Nest turning on AC when heat is on

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello.

Last year, I installed a 4th gen Nest, and everything was working fine. This past year, cooling was fine as well. But now when I turn the heat on, it turns the AC on instead with cool air coming from the vents. The outside AC compressor turns on as well.

Here are the things I've tried:

  1. Switching the O/B wires in the Equipment on the Home app.

  2. Turn off and on everything from the breakers.

  3. Reset the Nest thermostat.

Nothing has worked so far. Interestingly, before the reset, it was detecting no power to the OB wire (which isn't even connected), but now it is not detecting power to the W wire either. I removed and reinserted it with no change.

What's also interesting is that the Home app thinks I have an electric heating system when in reality it is a gas furnace. The option to change is it greyed out.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks!

Nest stopped sensing red wire

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 9200. My nest was working fine and a few years ago it said the red wire didn’t have power. I changed the filter, charged the nest, and it was all fine. Same thing happened again and changed the filter and charged it and replaced the fuse on the motherboard and nothing. I used my altimeter at the circuit board and wire and it was just really low (like 0.2A) both places so it isn’t ripped in the wall. Any thoughts? Maybe a battery back up non learning nest? Or something with that blue wire? Thanks!

Thermostat Nest Reset Settings

Has anyone else had issues with the Nest changing the equipment settings itself? We had everything set up correctly and then were having issues with pilot light igniting. Our System does not have a heat pump, but somehow it got switch in system settings to one. We thought the fan motor had died on A/C, but it turned out to be the settings as well. Next time HVAC gets updated, I think I will be getting rid of it.

Nest Note Error N260

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello all, I am at my wits end with my regular Nest install. We just bought a house and there is a brand new heat pump forced air system installed. They had a Copeland thermostat installed already that didn't need a "C" wire for it to operate at its full potential. I have tried the blue, black and brown wires in the "C" terminal on the Nest already, but no dice. Looking at my control board in my Carrier main unit, I can't find a normal "C" hookup. Any tips or guidance to find out how to get full power over to my Nest? Whether that is with a power adapter (and how to install it) or to where my "C" hookup is? Thank you!

Current hook up to my Nest is as follows:

Yellow - Y
Red - R
Orange - OB
White - W
Green - G
*Empty - C

No heating

Post image

Hello, we’ve upgraded our old thermostat to the nest around 3 months ago and only have needed to use AC. Now that the temperature is dropping we are trying to use heating but the furnace doesn’t start up. For some information the best turns on and the furnace will kick on for the AC but seems dead for heating. The picture is the wiring of how the tech did it but I feel like he must’ve done something wrong because the ground isn’t in the right spot. If anyone can help and save us money on just switching a wire please let me know

Error issue

Post image

Has anyone dealt with and resolved this issue before? This error occurs intermittently resulting in a delayed cooling cycle, so still cooling just stopping often. I assume there could be a multitude of causes. The beginning of this occurring intermittently seems to coincide with a day its power was turned off at the breaker while looking for a breaker to an outlet in the house. However it could be a coincidence.

Need help! Newly installed Nest cools but won’t heat

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I am currently out of town so can’t troubleshoot at home. Wife and I installed 2020 Nest this past week before I left town for work. The AC was working just fine, but when she tried to turn on the heat this morning it would only blow cold air.

I researched and did some tuning on the app, but nothing I tried worked. I’m thinking I connected the wires wrong and the B wire should have actually been put in the C common wire slot on the Nest.

Could anyone with more experience chime in with a potential answer? Thanks in advance!

Another NLE question, I'm so sorry

Just found out about/am learning about NLE firmware for Nest 2nd gen, looks really interesting! I've got some questions I can't find answers for anywhere after searching and reading for a couple hours, maybe I'm not hitting the right search terms or maybe I missed the answers in an article or guide.

Our home has a poor layout for the occupancy sensing part of a smart thermostat, it would be pointed vaguely into one corner of the kitchen from a hallway which doesn't see much traffic during the day. I know there are remote temp sensors, but when my partner is home they're primarily on the other end of the home, so I wanted to mount something over there so it can learn the home/away schedule better. Can I get a second Nest 2nd gen flashed with NLE to link as a temperature and occupancy sensor to work with the one on the wall? Is NLE+Nest 2nd gen compatible with Heat Link? Does NLE work with/use geofencing or phone GPS location for home/away?

If these questions are answered somewhere already in like a wiki I'm missing I'd love a link to it so I can just answer my own questions instead of pestering the community.

Nest Hub Max setup issues

I've had a Hub Max for a few years. No issues. One day it stopped functioning, just showing white screen but could change volume and go to settings, but couldn't cast or do any home controls.

I tried resetting it (volume buttons) then when setting it up it states display is already setup on another account. I can see it in local devices on my home but not showing connected to my home.

Found an old thread here saying go to my Google account site on a computer and remove it from there. Signed out, and was able to change the name but still showing the same error saying connected to another account.

Tried using Google support as well they suggested resetting, and unplug for 48 hours. Saying that should full clear everything.

Still no luck

Any other suggestions?

Thermostat Worst thermostats ever

Why did my nests go from eco mode to cool twice today? Of course the activity log is totally useless, just like Google is - "cooling turned on" the most unhelpful log ever created. Is there a virus in the nest servers or is this product just obsolete (gen3)?

Update:

https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/15962877?hl=en#zippy=

From my observation, Google home automation- actions - heating set point now triggers the system to switch from eco to cooling mode. They must have introduced a bug server side over night. Weirder still, the first time it happened today, it was no where near the automation scheduled time.

Nest thermostat temperature control

We have a Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen (UK) and for the most part it works fine. However one feature I can’t seem to work correctly is the temperature sensor.

We have the schedule set to switch the central heating on if the temperature goes below 18 degrees, but despite it starting to get colder here in the UK, the thermostat rarely shows a temp below 19/20. Hence, the central heating doesn’t get switched on unless I manually turn it on.

I’m guessing there is a way to ‘trick’ the thermostat into believing it’s colder than it is, but this seems to be going against the point of a thermostat to me?

Thermostat Does nest follow a schedule if it’s not connected to WiFi

I set up a schedule on my google home app for my ac but I want to know if WiFi disconnects or I turn it off, would nest still follow the set schedule?

What’s your biggest issue with Nest in the Google Home app?

For me, it’s the massive thermostat card taking up 4 device slots just to display one big number.

Curious how everyone else feels: Are you guys mostly using the app or just walking over to the physical wall dial now? What’s your biggest pet peeve with the app?
