Politics Your reminder to participate in your democracy

The powers that be, especially Blackburn and her ilk, count on your voter apathy. Over 750,000 eligible TN voters don’t vote. Early voting is easy. In 20 years, I’ve only experienced a line one time and that was less than 10min and on Election Day. Go vote. Participate.

Help | Advice LADIES AND GENTLEMEN - where did everyone meet their significant other/good friends?

• Upvotes

29F single local to east Nashville and I’ve totally grown out of the east Nashville bar scene.

I’m not opposed to a drink somewhere but in east I see the same bar rats that just get trashed until 3am and do it all again the next day. Not my scene anymore. I’ve got a great job and tons of hobbies and projects I enjoy so this scene does nothing for me.

I’d love to meet new people but I’m struggling to find where they are! I’d love your advice/input :)

Help | Advice Couples counselor with music industry familiarity

Does anyone have recommendations for a couples counselor with familiarity with the music industry (touring/gigging and session work). In short, my husband is a musician who has hit a rough spot and hasn’t brought in any meaningful income for the past three years. I’m trying to be supportive but am reaching my limit in terms of being the sole provider to our family while also turning down better career opportunities for myself in other cities because he doesn’t want to leave Nashville or give up on music as his full time career. Every time we try to talk it ends in me comforting him about the downturn in his career since his entire identity is wrapped up in music and my concerns are not really heard. Are there couples therapists who have some experience working with musicians? I think if he feels like the therapist doesn’t ā€œget itā€ in terms of how the music industry works then he won’t put much faith in what they say.

Companies | Businesses Seiko Watch Repair in Nashville

I have 1988 Seiko Scuba I need serviced with minor repair. Belle Meade Jewelry & Repair gave me a fuck off quote. $600-$800, I mean really, I could buy a NOS for cheaper. Nice enough guy, but that’s extremely insulting. Could have just said no.

Music | Venues The Truth- I wanted to hate it

We went to the Sting show last night at The Truth. We had freakin front row seats thanks to my sister’s bday present from her hubs who then got called out of town. Lucky me!

Y’all I wanted to hate this Livenation venue because they suck. But this venue is actually really nice and they had their shit together on logistics last night.

-Ride shared to dinner close by at 6:30. Afterward we walked 3 blocks to the rideshare pickup point and waited 15 minutes. Surge pricing was in effect and we paid $55 plus tip to go to Westmeade area.
-Walked over to venue, long entry line at 7:40, a little concerned. 15 minutes to get inside.
-Anyone without bag goes straight through metal detectors. Anyone with gets a short bag search. One of us had a medical bag and they were very professional, looked and tagged.
-Floor seats are padded folding chairs but fairly comfortable.
-The sound was excellent. From the front it was clear but not deafening.
-6 individual bars against the side walls of floor prevented long lines and missing show.
-The cameras on tracks around the stage made great close up content for the background. Was very well done.

TLDR: In short. It’s a nice little venue. Very intimate feeling. They got their logistics right. I would not avoid it because of logistics if someone really really really wanted to see played there but also I am going to try to support indie venues more. The ticket prices and fees are out of control at livenation venues.

Events | Shows Best craft fairs with actual crafts?

I sadly missed Tennessee Craft earlier this month and I’m looking for craft shows within an hour-ish drive that have actual crafts and handmade items. I want to meet and support more makers.

Bonus points if they’re unique items!

I was at the Craftsmen’s Fair in Gatlinburg and it was a mix of totally new-to-me ideas and the run-of-the-mill stuff. Some of the things that surprised me: gorgeous pressed flower art (way more intricate than I’m used to seeing), handmade shadow boxes with vintage novelties inside, and tiny watercolor artwork for just $5.

Discussion Nashville is now MAGA’s ground zero

1.3k Upvotes

My wife and I were talking about Nashville is now the ā€œhometownā€ of MAGA. Hegseth moved here. Riley Gaines has her own Fox News show and is on the Sumner County Library board. Only state with Charlie Kirk memorial highway. Only state with a Donald Trump bridge. No sign of any loosening of marijuana restrictions.

Politics Reddit kept auto-removing my blind TN governor study, so I gave it its own domain (reposted with mod OK)

namelessballot.org

Some of you saw this over the weekend before Reddit's filter pulled it. The mods told me Reddit bans the free host I was using, so I bought namelessballot.org, and moved it there.

namelessballot.org

How it works: you pick the issues you care about and read both nominees' positions with names and parties stripped off. The answers swap sides each question so you can't keep track of who's who. You mark the one you agree with, and at the end it shows you who you sided with. Every issue also has Tennessee data and sourced pros and cons for each position.

The only person you can fool here is you.

New since the first post:

- Results now list the questions where both stances were nearly the same, with both answers and your pick (someone here asked for that)

- A Your vote section with where and how to vote

- Fixed some he/she slips that gave away who was who

Early voting runs through Thursday 10/29. Election day is Tuesday 11/3.

I built it with Claude. Positions are paraphrased from tngovcompare.org, and the only real edits were rewording campaign-specific phrases and grouping the one-sided questions. Not affiliated with any campaign or party. No one paid for it. Nothing you mark leaves your device: no tracking, no cookies, no accounts.

If anything looks off or tilted toward one side, tell me and I'll fix it.

Politics Do we have a thread/sticky/info on what we’re voting on and what the pros/cons are of each item/position?

Like most of Reddit I don’t have the full story on what’s on the ballot when I go to vote. Where a good place (or two so I can get multiple source’s viewpoints) that talks about core beliefs or pros/cons of everything on the ballot? Thanks!

Companies | Businesses Vintage stereo repair

So I have this old stereophonic cabinet record player. Late 60s I believe. It got bumped really hard at some point and now the arm doesn’t track right over the records. The needle just goes straight to the middle. Anyway, I’m looking for a place in nashville or surrounding areas that deals with these sort of repairs that doesn’t charge some crazy restoration prices. Any suggestions?
