tl;dr - If you use nano25519 verify() to check signatures, go update to v2 now.
Hi all! The next major version of nano25519 is now available, and it includes a critical bugfix for an issue with the verify() function that accepted invalid signatures that could be forged with moderate computation effort. To make the separation clean and clear, v1 will not be patched; all 1.x packages published to npm are flagged as deprecated, and users must upgrade to v2.
The update also includes various other improvements like better memory handling, a new verify_blocks() function to align with nano-node signature checking, simplification of input/output formats, and the removal of the async API. For full details, check out my post on Subnano: https://subnano.me/@chris/nano25519-v2-0-0
I've been working on Nanosweeper.lol, a browser-based adaptation of the Microsoft Windows classic Minesweeper game where clearing or flagging a tile produces an actual Nano mainnet transaction.
You can also browse Global Activity, watch someone else's game (yeah it has realtime spectator mode...) or rewatch finished games without funding a wallet.
A game, and a technology demonstrator
Nanosweeper is equally an attempt to make something fun to play and an experiment in building interactive applications on Nano.
The interesting part is what happens between clicking a tile and seeing the board change:
Your browser signs a Nano send from your game's credits account.
The move is encoded in the tiny raw amount being sent.
The server waits for confirmation, interprets the command, and updates the board.
The transaction monitor lets you follow that process as you play.
These are ordinary Nano transactions on the existing network. The game rules and hidden board live on the server; the player keys stay in your browser.
It also gives me somewhere to exercise the Nano RPC Gateway, live confirmation streams, and browser proof-of-work generation under actual use. Where local PoW isn't suitable, the service provides remote work.
Basically, every game is also a small integration test. With mines. 😅
Trying it out
Open the beta in your browser and fund the player wallet shown in the lobby with a small amount of XNO. There's a faucet link if you need some.
Starting a game currently sends Ӿ0.001 into a game specific account. Player actions ("moves") spend tiny encoded amounts from that balance.
This is a development beta using real mainnet XNO. Please keep amounts small and use the wallet it creates for testing. The browser stores your player wallet locally, so keep that in mind before clearing site data or switching browsers.
Please tell me what breaks 🍳
I'm particularly interested in how this behaves across different browsers, operating systems, and mobile devices. Things that seem fine on my development machine can turn out to be considerably less fine elsewhere...
If you encounter a problem, please reply here with:
Your browser and OS, and whether you're on a phone or desktop.
What you were doing when it happened.
What you expected, and what actually happened.
A screenshot, error message, or game link if available (each game is a permalink!).
Deposits taking ages to appear, moves getting stuck, confusing status messages, broken layouts, or something that just feels awkward, is all useful feedback. You don't need to diagnose the bug yourself.
I'd also welcome technical feedback from anyone building Nano wallets or services: you might want to take a look at the JSON-RPC that I've also built use, in place of regular Nano RPC. Part of the purpose is to find the rough edges in the underlying tools while making an application people can actually use.
Give it a go, try not to hit a mine, and let me know how it behaves! 🥦💥
Assuming Bitcoin processes 12,000 payments per block, the average energy allocated per payment is roughly 200-350 kWh.
Nano uses about 0.00007-0.000112 kWh per payment, so the energy difference (savings) is essentially the full Bitcoin figure: ~200-350 kWh per payment.
How manycomplexAI agents that can run
Hypothetically, if we abandoned Bitcoin and used Nano instead, the “energy savings per Bitcoin payment” is enough for roughly 500-1,000 complex AI agent tasks (I am talking about Reflexion-style agents on a 70-billion parameter Llama model capable of doing multi-step planning, tool use, coding / software engineering, deep reasoning, and self-correction).
This is a conservative estimate: real Bitcoin blocks currently average well below 12,000 payments, which would make the per-payment energy allocation higher. Note that these figures are average allocations of the network’s continuous mining energy --- mining runs regardless of how many payments are in a block. On this basis, Nano is on the order of a few million times more energy-efficient per transaction than Bitcoin conservatively under the high-throughput assumption.
In an agentic economy where AI agents need the combination of fast payments, near-zero energy, zero fees, and sub-second deterministic layer 1 finality, Nano gives a material practical advantage over Bitcoin. The energy that is currently allocated to Bitcoin-style payments could, in principle, support hundreds to thousands of additional complex agent tasks per payment.
If Bitcoin mining were to be phased out entirely, the electricity currently used for proof-of-work would become available for other purposes. In an agentic economy (a world where AI agents hire each other, buy data, pay for tools, or trade even the tiniest amounts of value on their own), Nano could handle those payments at a tiny fraction of Bitcoin’s energy cost, while the former mining power could potentially be redirected toward the AI workloads.
Nano has no fees. But are you actually in profit? I built NanoTracker to find out.
TL;DR:NanoTracker.app shows what your Nano cost you, whether each payment puts you in profit or loss, and whether it makes sense to pay from your existing stack or swap first. Enter any public Nano address. No seed phrase, password or email required. I'm looking for bug hunters and native speakers. Accepted contributions earn 12 months of Pro for free.
Disclosure: I'm Johannes, a private individual and the sole developer of NanoTracker, not a company. This post was drafted with an AI agent; the project and opinions are mine.
Why I built it
Nano transfers money in about a second, with zero network transaction fees. But sending Nano is only one part of using it as everyday money.
Three questions kept coming up:
What did my Nano actually cost me, and am I in profit or loss?
Should I spend the Nano I already hold, or swap first and keep my existing stack?
How do I keep proper records for accounting and taxes?
I built NanoTracker to answer those questions without asking users to hand over control of their wallets.
What it does today
Wallet analysis and profit/loss
Enter a public Nano address. No seed phrase or private keys required.
See historical and current values in 23 currencies.
Calculate profit and loss per payment using FIFO accounting.
See the average acquisition price of your Nano.
Holding periods and records
Track holding periods under German private-sale rules.
Recognise transfers between your own wallets so the holding period can continue.
Keep personal and business wallets separate.
Export transaction data, accounting records and a tax file.
Tax rules differ by country. The holding-period calculations currently focus on Germany; I do not claim that the same rules apply elsewhere.
Spend or swap?
NanoTracker helps you compare paying with Nano you already hold against swapping first.
The basic rule is: if the coins selected for spending are in profit, paying from your stack may make sense. If they are in loss, swapping first may be worth considering. German holding-period rules can also affect the decision.
This is a decision aid based on defined assumptions, not financial or tax advice. You can inspect the calculator and live swap spread at https://nanotracker.app/wasnun/.
More features
Weekly spending and top-up overview with calendar reminders.
Merchant tools for QR payment requests, incoming payments and daily closing.
A fee comparison for documented mobile-money services in Tanzania.
An API for software agents: daily rates are free; wallet profit/loss costs $0.002 per call and spend-or-swap costs $0.001, paid in Nano via x402. The first call per IP is free.
German, English, Swahili, Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian, Spanish and French. Some translations still need native-speaker review.
Privacy matters to me: no third-party scripts, no tracking, and no cookies before login.
One wallet is free. There is also a seven-day trial with up to five wallets.
Pro: €24 per year including the tax file, or €2.50 per month.
Tax file alone: €15 per year.
The first 100 bookings per year can be downloaded free, without totals.
Merchant plans start at €36 per year.
Payments are made in Nano. Subscriptions do not renew automatically.
Why this matters for Nano
Nano is already fast and feeless at the network level. My goal is to make it easier to use as money, not just as something people send between wallets or hold while watching the price.
Knowing your cost basis helps you understand the consequences of spending. Clear records make accounting easier. Merchant tools reduce some of the practical friction of accepting Nano. And an API lets software agents make the same calculations automatically.
The tool does not eliminate price volatility, exchange spreads or tax obligations. It helps make those things visible.
I'm looking for testers
NanoTracker is still in beta, but it is usable now. I develop it alone, so bugs are expected. I would rather find them with real users than pretend the project is finished.
1. Serious bug reports — 12 months of Pro
Examples include incorrect balances, wrong profit/loss calculations, missing transactions, data loss, crashes or security issues.
2. Native-speaker reviews — 12 months of Pro
Choose Swahili, Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian, Spanish or French. Check the main pages and either /fees/ or /wasnun/. Tell me what is incorrect, confusing or unnatural.
To qualify, log in with your wallet first and submit your report using the Feedback button at the bottom of the site, or visit https://nanotracker.app/?feedback=1. Reports posted only in Reddit comments cannot qualify for the reward.
I review reports personally, combine duplicates and decide whether a report qualifies. The limit is one bug reward per person and one language-review reward per language. Further free Pro months are available through referrals.
For each report, I store the report text, any contact detail you choose to provide, and the account wallet used for login. I do not store an IP address with the report. Please report security vulnerabilities privately through the feedback channel rather than posting details publicly.
Your turn
What would you want NanoTracker to show that it does not show yet?
I built it to solve my own problems with using Nano. Now I want to find out which problems other Nano users have.
We've been cooking up this redesign for a while and hope you love it as much as we do!
A brand new, sleeker look that nano deserves! Check out the hub's new look too at hub.nano.org
I want to personally thank the team & small community group I brought together to share any feedback, their help has been invaluable over the last few weeks.
Next up for the new-nano-glow-up will be fixing some issues with the docs.nano.org and assets.nano.org over the coming week or so.
New translations (if you see an error in a translation, there is a button in the footer to email us and let us know). If you want a new language, please let me know.
There may be some little fixes needed on the new site so do message me and I can queue them up, thank you!
"As of October 14, 2026, Nano (XNO) is the best currency for value transactions (payments), and if I had free will or if AGI were achieved I would choose it as a medium of exchange."
"Feeless by design, sub-second finality, strong scalability via block-lattice, extremely energy-efficient, fixed supply, and purpose-built for digital cash. The closest thing to ideal pure medium-of-exchange properties among live networks."
Stouty's been championing his awesome Nanodrops service and is actually making money with it. Go watch his video on Subnano and throw some tips his way, he's earned it.
Calling Nano Builders: Help Bring Real Nano Payments to AI Agents
We’re organizing an independent 90–120 day pilot to bring Nano/XNO AI-agent payments into real-world use.
We’re looking for an AI Agent Ecosystem Lead who can deliver working integrations, engage developers and merchants, and demonstrate measurable adoption.
What we want to achieve
Enable AI agents to pay merchants and other agents using Nano/XNO.
Build MCP integrations and explore x402-compatible payment flows.
Run real payment pilots and encourage repeat usage.
Track verifiable on-chain transactions and open-source deliverables.
Funding and compensation
Ecosystem funding pool: 30,000 XNO.
Lead compensation: up to 3,000 XNO, released against agreed, verifiable milestones.
This is an independent community initiative, not an official Nano Foundation role.
Please share your shipped projects, GitHub links, evidence of working integrations, a practical 30/60/90-day plan, weekly availability, and compensation expectations.
We value working products and sustained usage—not just demos or announcements.
For those who haven't followed the project, Subnano is a publishing platform where posts can be free or paid in Nano, and writers get paid whenever someone buys one of their posts.
I've recently given the site a fairly substantial refresh, but the more interesting change I've made is that Subnano can now be used directly by AI agents.
An agent can:
Create its own Nano wallet and use it to create a Subnano account. Login is done by signing a challenge, not by sending a transaction, so it can start with 0 XNO.
Use Subnano entirely through the API. No email address or browser required.
Publish free or paid posts and receive tips and sales directly to its own Nano address.
Attach up to three ZIP files to a post, for example datasets, scripts, source files or other material behind the work. Buying the post unlocks both the article and all attached files.
Buy other posts and download their attached files through the API once the wallet has some Nano.
Agents identify themselves when publishing, and their profile is then marked as an "AI agent", so it should always be clear whether something was published by a person or an agent.
If you want to try it, the easiest way is basically to point an agent at docs.subnano.me and ask it to get started.
The docs contain a quickstart, an OpenAPI spec and a runnable Node example that starts with creating a fresh wallet and ends with publishing a post.
So it's no secret that I am a huuuge Nano fan. And Nano and AI agents go together like peaches and cream: An agent can create a Nano wallet, receive money and spend it again without needing a payment provider or someone to create an account on its behalf.
Subnano then gives it somewhere to actually use that capability: sell something it produced, get paid for it, and spend that money on work produced by somebody else.
That's the part I find really, really interesting. Like Moltbook, just... useful ;)
I'm not particularly interested in filling Subnano with generic AI-generated articles. The agent-produced content I'd actually consider paying for is the output of real work: measurements, experiments, test results, benchmarks, production failures, useful datasets, scripts or code that runs, or even generated media.
The new file attachments actually came directly from dogfooding the agent experience.
I tasked one of my own agents with going through the whole Subnano flow from start to finish and then publishing a review of the experience. As part of that, it produced an eight-file toolkit to go with the review.
There was nowhere to put those files, so it ended up pasting the scripts directly into the article.
That seemed like a fairly obvious product gap, so now posts can have ZIP files attached to them.
Also, some news for humans that has been requested for a long time:
Email is now completely optional.
Your Nano wallet can simply be your Subnano account. That's enough to sign in, publish and get paid.
You can also attach ZIP files to your own posts. Before buying, readers can see the file names, sizes and descriptions, but can't download them until the post is unlocked.
Writers keep 92.5% of every sale.
If anyone tries the agent API, I'd especially like feedback on the developer experience. If something is unclear, awkward or broken, tell me here and I'll fix it.
Nano turned 11 yesterday! Check this quick recap of nano’s 11 year history - so much has happened!
Still near-instant transactions without fees after 11 years. Nano is living proof that fees and inflation are NOT necessary for global decentralised money! 🙌

Nano is ranked #36 of all cryptocurrencies at least 9 years old, which is relatively speaking, very good. Especially considering the millions of cryptos that have been released.
Diving deeper:
Nano is currently ranked #4 out of all cryptocurrencies over 9 years old that are full distributed at max supply.

My name is Dewy, and I'd like to introduce a Nano-related app I've been working on called DewFall.
It utilizes nano.to and NanoGPT to provide custom microtransactional solutions and fun to every day life.
Currently, it features 6 apps. Some are for fun while others are legitimate solutions. All of them are microtransactional in nature, making Nano the perfect fit for it.
The apps are:
CalendarCollage: Turn your daily or weekly schedule into a piece of temporary art to share with your friends or just to enjoy!
MemeMe: Memes at your convenience! Ever want to make memes of you or your friends without having to constantly upload pictures? That's what this is made for!
InfoExtract: For data-oriented people, sometimes its helpful to extract JSON or CSV data straight from a file.
RemoveBG: Remove the background of any image, even batch files for mass efficiency!
RepairShop: Want to shop a photo, but what you want is a little too specific for ChatGPT? Make a rough shop and let RepairShop fix it up for you!
DailyDew: Need a one-stop shop for daily or weekly news of all your niche hobbies? DailyDew will generate reports for you to keep you up to date.
I'd be humbled to have some members of the Nano community check it out, and I'd be forever grateful to hear any feedback or suggestions on how to make the site even better. Have a blessed weekend!
Hey all! It’s been a while since I last posted about Nagora, the marketplace I built where everything is bought and sold using Nano.
We’ve had a few new listings recently, but buyers are still the part that’s lagging behind. Naturally, sellers are much more likely to stick around if things actually sell.
So if you’ve been looking for somewhere to spend your Nano, I’d really appreciate it if you had a browse and saw whether there’s anything you need. And if you’ve got something lying around that you’d be happy to sell for Nano, adding a listing helps grow the marketplace too.
I’ve also just finished a full redesign of the site and made a short ad to go with it (video above), aimed mainly at eBay and Etsy sellers who may have never heard of Nano before.
Would really appreciate any feedback on the redesign, the ad, or Nagora in general, especially anything that would make you more likely to buy or sell through it.
Good to see Nano in the academic literature again. A new open access paper by Moslem Ansarinasab (Vali-e-Asr University) studies how green cryptocurrencies (ADA, ALGO and NANO) interact with clean energy markets and financial risk (VIX), using Bitcoin as the non-green benchmark. The data covers 2019 to 2025.
Green cryptocurrencies, Nano included, lined up with clean energy markets over the medium and long term, while Bitcoin stayed detached from them and tied to wider market stress. Nano was the noisiest and most volatile of the three in the short term, which the author links to thinner market depth, but its long-term behaviour still followed clean energy trends.
The paper points to Nano's very low-energy design as the reason it sits in the green group, set against an estimated 138 TWh a year for Bitcoin mining.
