Im talking about the main campus.
For context, i grew up in an army family but really disliked the idea of being an army brat because the implicit notion of being “more civilized” than non army people/civilians was something that just didn’t sit right with me. I absolutely loathed how some of these army brats around me would behave, specially senior officers kay bachay. They wouldn’t explicitly say they were above you but it was ALWAYS implicitly implied in their behavior, body language, lingua franca, demeanor towards you, amongst other things.
Im now studying at LUMS and the military largely has a negative perception here, and while military brats themselves aren’t treated as if they are responsible for their parents’ actions, they surely do NOT get that special treatment they would have gotten in an army setting. Like for example i remember i met a guy during my oweek whose abu was a brigadier, and the fact that he wasn’t the center of attention at LUMS was very novel and refreshing to me. In an army setting, usko sab nay sar pay charhaya hona tha kay brigadier sahab ka beta hai. Similarly met another guy whose abu was a major general.
No one gives a flying fuck, and i am a huge fan of it.
i guess i already have the answer to this question since NUST has a much larger army influence, but since i have not been there, i have always been curious.
PS: I don’t have any animosity towards army brats, may khud aik arm brat hu (despite the fact that i absolutely despise this tag). I have animosity towards people who view others (from a different class - and even subclass) as inferiors.
