Hi everyone! Applied to GIS at COGS and am waiting to hear back but I also recently got into BCIT for Fall 2027 :)

How was your social experience at COGS? I know Lawrencetown is a VERY small town but how is the bar/social scene? I have a BSci so I understand a heavy work load but I’m also someone who needs to get out of the house and loves to go to the pub and different restaurants etc etc. Did people tend to go out? Or were social get togethers usually just school focused? Especially for someone considering renting a room outside of nscc dorms. Any insight to your experience would be appreciated :)

Hey I’m hoping someone can help me out who has maybe gotten the certification for their program. For my program I need to get Intermediate first aid and CPR C. Ivany campus doesn’t do the certifying so I’ve been looking at St. John’s ambulance. I cannot find information and the school won’t help on whether the blended option would count (I know full online doesn’t count). I also don’t think I need the AED stuff but there isn’t a course that doesn’t also have that.

I’m just annoyed cuz the course is $165 which is so expensive and I don’t want to overpay for something I don’t need or book something that won’t count and have to pay again.

Any advice?

I'm a Master of Information student at Dalhousie University, and I'm recruiting teens aged 16–18 who live in the Annapolis Valley for my master's thesis research study, Beyond Booklists: Teen Perspectives on Readers' Services.

The workshop will take place at NSCC Kingstec Campus in Kentville.

It will involve an in-person, approximately 5.5-hour workshop about books, libraries, and readers' services. Low-pressure and fun, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Workshop details

• Date: Friday, October 23, 2026 (NSTU Day)
• Time: 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
• Location: Rm. 2102, NSCC Kingstec Campus, Kentville
• Compensation: $25 plus a $10 travel allowance

Hi! I was just curious if anyone knows how funding for the Women's Unlimited course is, or has experience? I have a relative looking to do it, applied and everything, and while the program is free, they aren't sure they can afford rent while doing the program since they'll work less hours, and NSCC's website is a little vague about funding options (Admiral). Just looking to help them out! Thanks!☺️​

Was anyone else planning to ride an ebike to campus in winter, and take the battery inside?

> Effective immediately: No personal e-bike, e-scooter or associated battery will be permitted inside NSCC buildings (including carried in backpacks or stored in lockers). 

This is frustrating. Traffic and parking are insane. The bus takes twice as long as biking, because it's stuck in traffic.

I wish they would provide a designated battery storage locker room, or bike garage apart from the buildings with *some* heat, or something. Give it some fire-proofing, alarms, and sandbuckets. Put a cctv feed of it on the security desk.

I'm sure budget cuts don't make for great timing to request new stuff. But it sucks to take away a transportation option, that people have already factored into their plans.

Hey guys! I got into Jan 2027 marine engineering diploma. Should I take BCIT or do this same course at NSCC Sept 2027? The difference I know for now is BCIT takes 2 years 10 months and NSCC 2 years 6 months. I am sure losing 4 months of employment is significant. TIA.

I saw online that you book it through your calendar in your nscc email. When I go to select a room and hit “central” no rooms show up. Is this what I’m supposed to do or is there another way?

Edit: well I got “ivany rooms” to come up. But it says unavailable. So I’m guessing they’re just all full for tomorrow?

Has anyone received email confirmation that their opt out went through? I've put in the opt out forms twice and neither time did I get a confirmation.

Any International students having trouble paying application fee of 100 cad

So I stupidly didn’t withdraw on the September 23, refund withdrawal deadline. I didn’t because I thought I could stay in the course, and drive until I found a room. but my transportation had other things to say about that and I don’t want to give up on it. because I do like this course and it’s something I’m very interested in but if I can’t physically make it then I’m looking at it very real forced to withdrawal situation.

And I’m wondering if anyone else has been a similar situation or know someone else who has and who also had student debt, which is what I have. There’s a bit more to the situation, but if I explain more than it just goes off as a rant and I’m just looking for anyone that’s been a similar situation.

Hello y'all, so I've been having problems verifying the campus housing address on pretty much every site I've tried ordering off of since moving in, I've been putting in the exact address of housing that they told us to put in for mailing things and I've been seeing other people's Amazon packages have that exact same address but every website says the address cannot be verified and Amazon even canceled my order because of this, has this happened I anyone else here? I'm not even sure if the CAs can help me with this since I've triple checked the address and postal code numerous times now and I want to get some things ordered to the dorm soon.

For the one person dorms is it a full fridge or a mini fridge I can't find anywhere that says.

Anyone know of a sit-in option for classes? Just to get a feel for them.

I heard about a test-drive type thing but haven't found anything on the website. Anyone here know anything about it?

Just got to know the cybersecurity program saw student dropping 25 to 10 at the Sydney Campus(1st yr to 2nd yr).

Some just left program, some switched programs other tried to get seat in Halifax.

Just curious whats going on in the Halifax It campus? 2nd year cybersecurity how many students remain.

Or any other It programs, how are they doing?

Anyone still waiting on their student loan? I applied in June and still have not received it. I have not received any emails or notification on my online account. I started NSCC last week.

I’ve tried multiple times contacting student loans and been put on hold with no success.

Hey all, I applied to have two of my courses dropped because I already did them in a previous NSCC course. It was already approved by base admin and both my teachers approved it and sent it off. Just waiting for the final decision. The issue is my courses are 1 month outside the 6 year policy. They’ve been approved by everyone except whoever makes the final decision which I assume is the academic chair. Does anyone else have any experience with this, and what to you think my chances are in getting them accepted? I’m really nervous about it. I was told my chances are good but I’m not sure.

If they are not accepted I want to switch the two courses to doing them online so I can manage my schedule better as I live a bit far away from campus. I was told this was possible but I’m not sure who to go to about it. I am attending the IT campus. If anyone knows exactly who to talk to about that please let me know. Thanks!

Hi y'all!! I'm a first year in ivany and I'm thinking of starting a mycology/mushroom club.

Thinking just talking about mushrooms (or other fungi) together and going on walks in HRM. My previous study was in (ethno)biology and I have been leading nature walks in Halifax since 2021. Hoping to meet others who are interested in mushrooms regardless of previous experience.

We need 5 people plus 1 staff to start a club. Before becoming a club we'll stay as an interest group. Let me know if you're interested!!!

For record, all knowledge about mushrooms we talk will be theoretical; we do not condone the consumption of any foraged mushrooms or psychoactive substances.

If there are enough people who are interested, I can lead a walk on Sunday Oct 4th 11am at Point Pleasant Park.

I (pretty sure) have a guaranteed spot into NSCC because I'm in the o2 program, but everytime I try to research about NSCC I immediately get confused and lost. (Doesn't help that I want to go to one of the smaller NSCC's, the one in Port Hawkesbury.)

For more context, I want to become an industrial electrician, then take a linesman course. I cannot find either of these on the NSCC website. I have found construction AND industrial together, is that the only possible course? Do I have to take them both? And what about the linesman course?

I am still a teenager so it's possible I'm just being dumb and missed it, but I worry about the future a lot so it would be nice to see the courses I want and what I need for them.

Im in Administrative professional part time. So whoever is running the ECampus Finance made a very bad mistake. I have a registered Disability thru Student Assistance and NSCC. I had to withdraw from School eailer this year and got a overaward for my new loan. I got it sorted out with SA and they Acknowledged my Issues and reversed it. Big thing is tho on the 20th of August I got my first Assesment. And the School confirmed it and such. And then after my overaward got reversed i got another assessment and it went back to the school. But it got denied then and I got an email from the Finance person saying my student loan was being denied because my program is not considered full time after already confirming my loan 2 weeks before. I was really looking forward to doing my program and can only go if these loans can get through. The Finance person even admitted there mistake in an email today. So am I just screwed over? What am I supposed to do?

I'm a mature student switching fields and I'm a bit overwhelmed 😅 I wasn't ready for the plethora of terminology to be thrown at me on the first week.

How are you all making out? What programs are you in?

Im going to Truro's campus currently, and think about if I could/should have adjusted my living situation and gone to Ivany instead. The campus is so beautiful looking, modern, and I wonder if the classrooms operate differently; how the instructors are.
Since Ivany has more students, does it feel noticeably more social like is there fun events, clubs, activities, or things to do around campus? If you are currently going, what is your experience like? Does anybody feel a bit of FOMO, wondering if they chose right?

For those of you who are/were in programs that require a clinical placement at the Truro campus how far do you need to travel?

Im thinking of applying to the practical nursing program next year but i cant drive and if i get placed in Halifax or something it would be way too expensive to take a cab all the time.
