NOAA is absolutely awful
I have PTSD from working for these horrible people. The ship I worked on was awful and disgusting! The officers I worked with were terrible!

NOAA is an awful nightmare. One of the worst jobs ever. I wish they would finally abolish this awful organization! These officers at omao are so unprofessional and pathetic. NOAA is a worthless organization that is absolutely horrible!

With the recent wave of entry-level meteorologists (and more to come!), I wanted to share my experience so that you can have some idea of what to expect. Timing will be highly variable between initially applying and interviews but should be closer to my experience from interviews to offers. The back half of this process was faster than hiring managers expected.
Initial application: 5/11
Administrative error and second application: 6/24
Interviews (pull 3): 9/2-9/10
TJO: 9/28
Security office items: First week of October
FJO: 10/16
Best of luck to everyone applying and those who are starting their NWS careers!

How easy is it to move internally within the NWS to other WFOs once you’ve accepted the job?

I was recently hired as a forecaster with the NWS and will soon be relocating over 1,000 miles for the position. My spouse and I are both excited and nervous about such a big move.
I’ve been seeing quite a few posts about a potential NWS reorganization, and I’m curious what that could mean for those of us who were just hired. Is there any reason to be concerned about possible layoffs, particularly for new hires still on probation?
I’m genuinely excited about this opportunity, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t anxious about moving across the country to an area with a higher cost of living, only to potentially lose the position shortly after starting.
I’d really appreciate any insight from those who have been with the agency for a while or have a better understanding of what might be coming. Any feedback or advice is greatly appreciated

I have Navy Fed so every other Saturday is my usual payday...however, not this morning. I know others with Navy Fed have the same issue today but some others who use different banks still got paid today. Navy Fed was no help when I asked them about the delay...they said "your employer may have delayed the disbursement since its a holiday weekend" but that doesn't make sense, since others with diff banks still got paid.
Anyone else hear anything of value, or with other banks that also didn't get paid today? Not sure if it's just Navy Federal. Pretty frustrating since bills are scheduled around pay dates.

So the entire point of re-org, was to not duplicate services. They have literally just created multiple that were just recently approved from congress. Ones that are ALREADY OPERATIONAL. Where are the advocates? Are all the supes too invested in their upcoming retirements to actually do their jobs? Like morale hasn't been squashed by this administration enough! SMFH. What the hell is happening? What world is this?!😒

I saw there was a post for the last fellowship cycle but curious if anyone else applied for the 2027 fellowship here and are feeling the same general angst waiting to hear anything. The website says anywhere between September to November for notifications, but who really knows? Best of luck to everyone who applied!!

What do people think of the upcoming OAR integration? I can understand from an HR/IT admin side to gain efficiencies.
Very confused in practice how we are going to be “integrating” (read - reorganization) FMCs when there are so many regionally focussed and single team oriented efforts.
So far leadership has been quite opaque on how the science, operations, and budgets are going to change with this shift.

Noaa is absolute garbage place to work! I know firsthand because I work on one of their shit boxes and I hate it. They don't maintain their vessels. The crew they hire is such low quality I don't know where they find them but they do. I thoroughly regret working for NOAA! Working for NOAA has been awful! If your thinking about going NOAA at least stear clear of marine part of NOAA! This job is ridiculous! This job is a nightmare that is destroying me! Talk about awful!

Hey all,
I’ve seen a lot of talk about NWS application/interview processes and timelines but I’m not seeing a lot of information about NMFS. I’m primarily asking because I applied to an announcement that closed on 7/13, and I received a letter on 9/2 that I was eligible and referred but I haven’t heard anything since.
I understand that staffing, especially HR have been gutted the past two years but I’m just looking to see if this is a normal timeline or if I was just referred and not selected to interview.
Anyone have thoughts or experiences with NMFS? Thanks!

Found out today I didn’t get the spot at the one office that interviewed me despite telling me I should keep pursuing opportunity since I’m what the MIC said “well qualified.” Looking for advice as I’m a bit sad I didn’t get in

As of Sunday morning, these are all showing out of service: Valdosta, Tallahassee, Eglin, Enterprise, and Mobile. Beyond that Key West is also down.
I've seen one of two go down, but this is a rather large number for this geographic area.

NWS posted new job postings as of 10/2 for entry level positions. I applied the first time around and interviewed but received no offers. Would it be worth applying again even though my name would already be on the standing register?

If you value local input and expertise with the forecast at your local office , that is going away by the end of 2027 at the local level. The only products remaining are TAFs and warnings. I can see a path where those go away sooner rather than later.

Is there a general timeline about when you’ll receive the background check information?
I accepted a TJO and signed the OF-306 form the other day and am wondering how long it takes to receive next steps. Appreciate any clarifying info!

Has anybody received a TJO from a pull 3 East Coast office yet?
I’m waiting to hear back on a few and was wondering when they might start (or have started) coming out :)
r/NOAA • u/Upstairs-Range-9404 • 20d ago
I know TJO’s have been going out over the last couple of weeks and I’m just curious if anyone’s gotten an FJO or start dates yet. I know it’s still a bit soon but I was under the impression previously that pull 2 offices were hoping to have people starting mid to end of October, so I was just trying to gauge if that’s still the goal.
UPDATE: received NBIS form link today!

If for example no office selected you after interviews? Or is every interviewed candidate ranked and we won't know until all vacancies are filled?

Anyone received any TJOs from the “pull 3” cities yet? or mainly from “pull 2”?
