Transfer student planning Computer Engineering for embedded systems — how are internships, co-op, and job outcomes really?

I'm at a NJ community college right now and planning to transfer into NJIT Computer Engineering in Fall 2027, aiming to graduate at the end of 2029. I want to go into embedded systems / firmware after graduation (microcontrollers, C, that side of ECE — not pure software and not power).

A few questions for CE/ECE students and recent grads:

  1. Internships: how hard is it to land an embedded/firmware internship (not SWE)? Did the career fair and Handshake actually work for hardware roles, or did you find yours another way? When did you get your first one — sophomore or junior year?
  2. Co-op: is the co-op program worth it for CE? Does it push graduation back? As a transfer student, is it hard to get in?
  3. The embedded labs (ECE 252, ECE 395) — do they give you real hands-on skills and projects you can show employers, or is it mostly theory?
  4. Jobs after graduation: where did CE grads who wanted embedded actually end up? Did having an internship make the difference between getting hired and struggling?
  5. If you transferred in: how was the credit evaluation? Did you lose credits you expected to count?

Anything you wish you'd known or done earlier would help too. Thanks!

Admissions How hard is it to switch into CS at NJIT from another major?

I'm applying to NJIT as a freshman, and CS is what I actually want to study.

I'm considering putting Information Technology as another major choice, or possibly Biochemistry, and then trying to switch into Computer Science after my first semester.

From what I've read, switching into CS requires a B or higher in CS 100 and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. If you meet those requirements, how likely is the switch to get approved? Is it basically guaranteed, or can they reject you because of capacity or other restrictions?

Also, would I be able to take CS 100 during my first semester if I'm admitted to IT or Biochemistry, and would I need to submit an essay or anything else to switch?

If anyone has actually switched into CS from another major, I'd really appreciate hearing how it went.

(if your wondering why im doing this, its because I really do like CS and I have lots of experience in C# so far. My math grade in junior year was a D. It was due to pretty severe depression but im better now so just trying to apply.)

Math 337: Linear Algebra Fall 2026 Question Paper

Did anyone get back their Linear Algebra Common Exam I Question Paper? I didn't get back the question paper I submitted along with the answer sheet when I got back the graded answer sheet.

And if someone has the solutions, if their prof uploaded them to Canvas or something, it'll be even more helpful.

Club Announcements Club E-Board members: Please help fill out my COM 313 form (need responses by Thursday)!

I'm currently working on preparing a proposal for the NJIT senate after getting support from numerous clubs regarding requiring a policy for offboarding members and transferring digital accounts (because someone might just leave or become unresponsive and then oops, no login).

The Google Form is anonymous and very quick. If you're not an e-board member but know someone who is, please send this to them! https://forms.gle/XR8RJ9U88DMVU2sb8

Administration Spring 2027 Course Schedule

Why isn’t the Spring 2027 Course Schedule posted yet? Registration opens in a few weeks. They sent an email two weeks ago to meet with your counselor to plan. But, plan what? We don’t know what the options are going to be? Is this typical for NJIT?

Anyone in Digital Forensic Concentration? How is it?

Got accepted into the BS IT program, but I’ve always wanted to pursue digital forensics and had no idea NJIT offered a degree program for it. Is it a good program? Or should I stick with IT?

What keeps engineers majors going?

I’m going to stay in engineering, but I haven’t been enjoying some classes recently. Maybe it’s just some of the things that NJIT does that I’m not a fan of like the common exams. Though, I get exams would vary if professors made each of their own exams. Though I know in the summer professors do make their own exams. I know it’s a grind and you can’t just wing it in engineering. Grades matter and hard work is necessary. What keeps you guys pushing through? I chose engineering since it did align with my interests. Regardless of wherever you decide to go for engineering, the major will be difficult. It's especially difficult when imposter syndrome comes around and you start comparing yourself to how others did. But honestly, I don't find myself switching out of this school. I just have to just get through it. But some classes and professors in the past have wavered my decision. I know some classes it's just hard; you're going to have to get through it, and poor professors are inevitable.
So, my question is, what makes you guys stay in engineering?

Any past or current nursing or PA students

Hello!

I am currently a junior how time flies! I am not studying a science or a major related to medicine, but I am considering an ABSN program or PA school due to my growing passion for the medical field. I would need to complete the prerequisites here or at a community college after I graduate. Do any nursing or PA students have advice on what the prerequisites are like? Math is not my strongest suit, and I have not taken a science course since my freshman year or a chemistry course since high school any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

The second exam coming up honestly I don't even know how to study for this one after the first one didn't really rely much on the textbook but still ended up w a 70. If anyone remembers does the coordinator use all the chapters material definitions or is it only to what the slides go up to? Not really trying to use the quizlets.

gonna try to study using the textbook this time

Applied to 20+ Data Science internships and got rejected from all of them within 3 days. What should I do?

Hey everyone,

I’m an undergrad Data Science major (graduating Fall 2027) and I’ve applied to 20+ Data Science and ML internships recently. Every single one has come back as a rejection email within 3 days of applying.

I already have a previous data science internship (Python, SQL, R), math tutoring experience, a hackathon award, and ML projects on my resume, so getting rejected that fast every time doesn't make sense to me.

Why am I getting rejected within 72 hours, and what should I do next? Should I tweak my resume and re-apply to the same roles, or take a completely different approach?

Thinking About Switching From IT to Business Because of AI

I’m currently a freshman doing an IT major at NJIT, but I’ve been seriously thinking about switching to a business major. The main reason is that I’m not really liking the direction the tech industry is going with AI. I know AI probably isn’t going to completely replace every tech job, but I’m worried about what the job market could look like by the time I graduate. I’d rather play it safe and study something that fits what I actually want to do.

I’ve also realized that I was never really passionate about IT or coding in the first place. A big reason I chose IT was because I heard about the salaries and job opportunities. The more classes I take, the more I realize I don’t want to force myself through a degree just because I think it might make good money.

I’m much more interested in business, entrepreneurship, freelancing, marketing, and eventually making money working for myself. I also like the idea of using AI as a tool for business instead of trying to compete against it for a traditional tech job.

Has anyone here switched from IT/CS to a business major at NJIT? Do you regret it, or was it a good decision? And which business major would you recommend for someone interested in entrepreneurship and working for themselves?

Weary with Calc 2

Within about a month and a half into the semester, I'm a bit worried about Calc 2. I didn’t do the best on the first exam. I got around a 50. Now, we have our exam on Integration (Basic rules, u-sub, Trig sub, Trig Integrals), Partial Fractions, Numerical Integration), and LCT/DCT. All the topics here is what's going to be on the exam. They expect for students to memorize a lot from here too. Though, they did the same with Calc 1 but that was easier. I have to get at least a 69 or higher to be eligible to pass Calc 2 with the bare minimum of a C.

For the first exam, the average in my class was a 63 which my professor wasn't satisfied with.

I will be studying this weekend. At least 2-3 exams. Wanna study as much as possible and actually understand the material. I haven't even done the greatest on quizzes recently, so it's like exams are my best bet to get my grade up. My professor did comment on how the class hasn't been doing well on the quizzes. I'm not sure if she was joking around or not, she was warning us that we just won't have quizzes if that's the case.

I've been using Organic Chem Tutor since others have shared how it's helped them best. I initially used JKMath with the first exam. The stuff with area, shell method, washer method, and disk method really did confuse me and I think that's why I didn't do the greatest on exam 1 for Calc 2. Dropping the class isn't really an option for me here. I just really have to push through this class. I'll be happy getting a C in this class.

If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.

I really pray that I do well in Calc 2. It feels like this class is going to be the death of me.

I'll be much happier once I'm out of college.

Exams Entire class failed exam. Prof blamed the class

the class is structural analysis and the exam had 2 problems. the class average between the 2 problems is about 29%. problem 1 was worth 40 points and the average for it was about 23/40 (problem was reasonable imo) and the second problem was worth 60 points and had an average of 6.6/60 and a high of 16/60. highest grade was barely above a 50. the prof blamed us for failure and thought the time given + the problems given were reasonable. what yall think lol?

Advice Is there something wrong with being a biochem major?

Hi, I’m a Freshman who’s doing Biochem right now.

Recently I have realized that I can count on my fingers the number of people that I know who does Biochem (2 fingers to be exact).

I think personally think I know a lot of people (did EOP and met a lot of other freshman).

Coming back to my original question, is there something wrong with the major or job prospects?

I keep seeing BME or Chemical engineering.

Please any clarification would help.
