Thoughts on some of the lottery picks after preseason
Side note right off the bat, I'm not saying anything about Morez, Mara or Yaxel. As a Michigan guy, I recognize I have a bias there.
Cam Boozer has looked the best of the "big 4" at the top of the draft: Boozer put up 14 points on 47% shooting (33.3% from 3), 5.5 boards, and 3 assists to 1.5 turnovers. AJ and Peterson haven't really shot the ball particularly well (especially from 3, 18% and 21%, respectively), and Wilson averaged 3.4 turnovers per game.
Acuff looks like a potential elite scorer, but still doesn't/can't defend and is going to turn the ball over a ton: Acuff has put up 17 points in 24 minutes while shooting 42% on nearly 5 three point attempts per night. He's also turning the ball over 3.5 times per game and not defending much. He's going to get every chance to be the guy in Sacramento and should challenge for ROY just based on scoring numbers alone, but he'll have to outscore his defense and giveaways to be a truly valuable player.
Burries takes some crazy shots, but his three isn't close right now: Burries has stuffed the stat sheet a bit with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steal per game. But he's shooting 11.8% on over 4 attempts per game from 3.
Nate Ament is going to take a lot of work: granted, he's only averaged 11 minutes across 2 games, but he shot 27.3% from the field, and looked fairly overwhelmed and lost in the limited time I saw him. He was supposed to be super raw, but I think even more so than I expected.
