A Reminder About Modesty Comments, "Keep Looking" Responses, and Saying No to Someone's Yes-to-the-Dress Moment

Just a friendly reminder about a few rules we find ourselves enforcing pretty regularly.

Please avoid comments comparing dresses to lingerie or making judgments about modesty, coverage, or whether it's "appropriate." Not every dress will be your personal style, and that's okay. If the OP isn't specifically asking about lining, alterations, or coverage, those comments aren't needed.

If someone has narrowed it down to a few dresses and is asking which one works best, do not make comment like “keep looking,” “neither,” or similar.

And finally, if someone is showing off the dress they've already chosen, they're sharing an exciting moment with the community. Those posts are for celebrating, not critiquing. Please don't second guess their choice or tell them they'll regret it. A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you

Edit: I also can not pick between 1 and 4. 5 also looks nice 😩.
I am planning on getting my dress custom from Vietnam because of the price and their quality. I was thinking on doing a combination of choice 1 and 4 ( make sure to add pockets😂)

We met at a ren faire, got engaged at a ren faire, and had our wedding in a castle. So of course I had to find something that made me feel like a princess.

Found my dress after lots of advice!

Posted here a few days ago, as I was super conflicted between 2 dresses - after a lot of comments suggesting I maybe go have another look, I think I finally found my dress!

This was after my 4th bridal store visit and I was so over trying dresses and hearing the old “you’ll know when you find it”. I love this, and I feel like it incorporates both elements from the previous 2 dresses I was torn between!

Thoughts? :)

Let me know which one you think for my body type.
A: I would fill in the deep v in front and make it a small v
B: off the rack so I would need it taken out/tone up
C: I think id leave it
D: I think I’d leave it

I’m getting married in the mountains at a lodge

Edit: I just want to say thank you to everyone for being so kind ❤️

Update from last post!! Which one now?

OK, so my recent post got a lot of traction, and since then, I’ve had different responses and confusion over dress #2 regarding AI and not being able to tell how it actually looks (basically the other post I did an AI version of the dress). So here are both not AI! I am equally in love with both. I am going to attach dress #1 with the sleeves I want, and non AI photos of dress #2. Dress #2 also requires a petticoat underneath for the volume.

My venue is a church, and we will have lots of candles. Reception too is going to be dark amber lighting with electric candles.

With these updated photos and info, please let me know what your preference is!

Night before dress?

I found this beautiful, one of a kind vintage gown that I’m considering wearing the night before my wedding. I absolutely love it, but I’m wondering if it looks too much like an actual wedding dress?? Or would you save it for a second look on the wedding day instead?
Would love some opinions! Should I keep looking?
The last photo is my actual wedding gown for reference! Thank you :)

Today I tried on two wedding dresses that I really like. One is simple and sleek, and the other is lace.

The cups on the bodice of the simple one were too big for me, but they said they could make smaller ones that would fit me better.

Which one do you think looks better, and which one suits me best?

Please forgive the AI, one of them is from online and I sadly won’t be able to try it on😭. And I forgot to put my sleeves on in the first photo, so it’s AI too lol. But ignoring that, can you please tell me which one you like better? and why? And what vibes each of them gives? I am completely torn!!!!!

Edit: I posted a non-AI photo of dress number two in the comments, so please look at it before deciding!

Edit again: please please look at my other comment with the sleeves changed out on dress #1 as well!!!

Elopement dress help needed - change in venue

TLDR; help me pick a dress for a small 8 person wedding ceremony in the dead of winter in new york (no venue yet) in two months, or suggest one from an online store that has cheap returns.

hello, my mother-in-law has been hospitalized recently. we were planning to elope in san diego on the beach this december, with all of our parents and my kiddo present, but it seems we need to move the wedding to new york. having a wedding ceremony and picking out the dress seemed fun before all this but now it feels a bit meaningless, on top of the fact that the wedding/elopement won't be what I wanted or a happy celebration since my mother-in-law has taken a turn for the worse.

these are my options; I need to pick quickly for alterations. I've always wanted something with sleeves/covering my arms and I want to be comfortable and able to move around. I used to really like lace and a-line skirts but when I tried those styles on they didn't look great on me (I looked swallowed?).

I'll need to wear a faux fur shawl or something similar if outside. I have on the necklaces I want to wear. I envisioned a flower comb but who knows? Maybe a veil? Hair will be half up half down. Open to suggestions. Please help me get excited about this!

Ten years in the making and we finally tied the knot! I loved my dress but after getting our pictures back, I can’t help but feel I picked too plain of a dress. Anyone else felt regret after the wedding about their choice?

Loved my dress but now I'm insecure

Hello! I bought my wedding dress months ago and absolutely loved it. I didn't feel the need to make any changes... until people started commenting on the zipper at the back.

I thought it looked fine with the dress, since the design is simple and the zipper gives it a bit of a modern feel. But now I'm feeling insecure about it, and I can't seem to come up with a solution with my wedding only 40 days away.

Would adding small buttons over the zipper make the dress look better, or is it actually okay the way it is?

Alterations!

When I bought my dress back in February I was 24/30 heavier so now here I am having to take it in. This was my first appointment with the seamstress and it was to work on length and bustle placement. She sent me these pics and I'm curious how the heck the top will be done. Has anyone lost weight like this and had to have the top taken in? Will she take it in from this under the arms? Its obviously pinned in the back just to simply hold in place for the length to be pinned. This dress is also originally to be worn with the straps up but I prefer and want them down. Let me know your thoughts. I'm sure she has a plan and it'll look beautiful when finished. I do love my dress I just wish I had ordered a size down but you never know how well you'll actually lose the weight when trying.

Help me pick between four dresses

Thumbnail

Hello, I'm choosing between four dresses which are basically the same style.

All of the dresses would be tailored to fit me (currently some were too small in the boob area).

For example, on dress four the lady added some tulle over the cups to show what it would look like after alterations.

Which one would you say is your favorite/second favorite? Thanks!

(I have posted some of the dresses already but am still undecisive after trying on some more).

Dress style recommendations

So I am very self conscious about my body. The outfit with the sparkley jacket is the most exposed I have gone in a long time. I feel like I have man shoulders, I have seen dresses I like but am dreading going shopping and putting a dress on. I have my first shopping appointment booked for next October as my wedding is in 2029. We know we are doing a historical church but not a religious ceremony the theme is strange new world/star trek/space because we are both nerd. So very electic with a touch of history.

First 4 pictures - MWL, dress Prim

Last 4 pictures - Stella York 7974

I'm torn between having a more floral dress and one with more lace. I love both! Floral dresses look cuter and more feminine to me, while lace looks more romantic and luxurious.

I've noticed that brides who post photos of themselves wearing the Stella York 7974 don't seem to look quite as good as the model in the official website photos...

I'm quite slim and not very tall, so I'm not sure which style would suit me better.

Please help! Which one would you choose?

Hi. Saw a great article in the New York Times on new wedding dress fashion shows. Many gorgeous new trends were shown. . There are links at the bottom to other promising articles. Thought it might be useful to the brides here. I hope I haven’t broken the rules Jeremy apologies if I did.
