Discussion Monthly Music Discussion Thread

Hello, and welcome to our monthly music discussion thread!

These threads are a great place to discuss other music you've been listening to, music you've found/created that you think other Muse fans would like, or just general discussion about whatever you'd like that is not Muse related.

Rules 1 and 3 will be relaxed, but please keep in mind that all other rules remain standing.

Discussion Which song would you like to return to the live set that hasn't been played in a long time?

• Upvotes

If you could pick one song that hasn't been played in more than 10 years to come back to the live sets, which song would you pick?

It's really hard to only pick one song, but I think I would pick "Sunburn". The song is a banger and I hadn't got the opportunity to listen to it live yet. I listened to dozens of live recordings of this song and I would love to hear it live some time. I'd be also really curious which version they would bring back, since the song was played in three different versions

Question Anyone going to the Wow! Signal tour in Milan on 20th November?

Hi everyone! I'm an international student living in Milan, and I'm going to the Muse concert at the Unipol Dome on 20th November! I'll be on my own and would love to meet some of you there :)

Is anyone else here going?

Live How to reach Unipol dome in Milan

I'm very excited to go to the November concert in Milan, but since I'm not from there, and since the Dome is pretty far from the center, do you know if there's some form of shuttle or maybe some other way to reach the Unipol dome?

Live Clue on the stage design for The Wow! Signal Europe Tour in arenas

So, I don't know if someone noticed before (I didn't find anything so I hope it wasn't mentioned) but on Meo Blue Ticket, website which sales the tickets for Muse's gig in Lisbon in January, there is a bit bigger clue on stage design for the Europe arena tour than what we had before.

I think the most what we had were the quotes from Matt's interview (about trying to build a spaceship which appeared to be very expensive, some new stuff with lasers and space, sci-fi realm) and B-stage look from German Ticketmaster - in ticket sale page it was presented as hexagon shape.

Ticketmaster Germany look of TWS! Tour stage design

Well, now we have two hexagons - one at main stage and the other at B-stage.

MEO Blue Ticket look of TWS! Tour stage design

And actually the design looks quite huge - even knowing what they're capable of. Main stage appears to be in two parts: bigger screen/scenography and hexagon-shaped space for the band. A bit like the one at Simulation Theory - maybe with more space between each other. Its project from Portugal still matches the simplier one we got from Germany.
And it's even more detailed the further it goes. Darker grey zone shows us something that can be an upper part of the hexagon design. At left and right side of it we can see two little "wings" - as usual in their arena stage design (although I associate it the most with T2L Tour and that arena stage with LED pyramid).
Whole stage doesn't look too long - from 1/3 to half of the standing area. That means it can be worth to be a bit closer to the stage within seats. But actually it really depends on the scenography and effects. I went to the arena Muse shows twice sitting quite far away and still enjoyed it with a great view, so hopefully we'll get one more of these kind of designs.

Things shown there don't look coincidencial but of course it's just a small clue on what to expect in November. Still, looks like they prepared something special one more time - can't wait for it! Seeing them three times in Manchester, Berlin and Dusseldorf.

Question Queuing for Muse

Going to see Muse in Manchester and will be my first time standing seeing them. Are they a band where people queue hours and hours before the doors open or can I show up after doors and get a decent spot? (Not expecting front row)

Discussion Let's build the worst Muse setlist, BUT... part 20

Reminder: No variations of songs are allowed. No "this song but...", no twists that make ok songs unlistenable, only real Muse songs, in the worst order possible to make the experience as unpleasant as possible. This is not a ‘worst song’ ranking or a ‘put shit songs together’ list. It’s a list where songs wouldn’t transition well and sound out of place if played live.

Additionally: No repeated songs or remixes

The setlist so far:

1) Intro
2) (JFK)
3) Interlude
4) Get Up And Fight
5) Something Human
6) Knights Of Cydonia
7) Man With A Harmonica
8) Drones
9) Execution Commentary
10) Will Of The People
11) The 2nd Law: Isolated System
12) Overdue
13) Dig Down
14) Compliance
15) (Drill Sergeant)
16) Explorers
17) Who Knows Who
18) Propaganda
19) Falling Away With You 20) Psycho 21) Ghosts (How Can I Move On) 22) Feeling Good

What would be the worst song to follow it up?

Opinion You call it "Showbiz + Ashamed outro". I call it "Showbiz the way god intended".

I won't pretend it's an obscure thing but if you're not in the know: the outro from Ashamed has often been played following Showbiz since 2000, during the last legs of the Showbiz tour, almost systematically on the OoS tour and since the song was scarcely brought back in 2017 (not during the Absolution/BH&R eras though, and one time in 2019).

More than that, the 1996 demo of Ashamed from the Newton Abbot Demos do not feature the same outro riff. The 2 recorded live performances of Showbiz from 1997 don't either, but it starts to make an appearance in 1999, among other outro riffs. It briefly retires for the scarce appearances of Ashamed in full around 2000.

Because Showbiz's big and chatartic final explosion blends so nicely into Ashamed's as chatartic outro riff, I always speculated that the outro was intended to be included in the "real" version of Showbiz. For some reason they would have dropped it and stuck it in place of Ashamed's original outro.

This is pure speculation, even head canon if you will because I couldn't find any live performance of Ashamed in full between 1997 and 2000 that would have confirmed it still had the old outro. I know it has also been played after New Born but it wasn't systematic (and it never felt as good in my opinion).

thanks for reading my stream of consciousness

Media Muse at the Cambridge Corn Exchange (2001)

Peterborough Evening Telegraph
Friday, April 13th 2001

"I went over to Cambridge Corn Exchange on Tuesday night to play balloons with Muse, who played an absolutely blinding gig, although it did start rather spookily to resemble an episode of The Prisoner towards the end.
They played all their hits - yes surprisingly there are quite a few for a band who haven't really been around that long and some new tracks from their eagerly awaited forthcoming album, which is going to be a real treat if these were anything to go by."

Note
"The Prisoner" reference is interesting, as it would inspire 2002's Hullaballoo

Muse please read this😭

Instead of a KOBK Remix or Isolated System I would much rather the Jams come back!! Especially Munich Jam. Or Houston jam!! (Any of the old jams😭) Gives rest to Matt's vocals while still being still awesome and fun!

Discussion Thoughts on what the last song Muse performs would be?

I’ve always found it fascinating to see the progression of how bands go through their career, and how bands come to the conclusion of their careers. A fun thought I’ve always had is “what would be the final song X band performs when they decide to hang it up and retire?” My two picks that I think would fit perfectly for a final live muse song would be either Cave - for the sentimental value and grandiose ending, and especially Blackout - for the lyrical content and huge emotional sound of it. Curious to see what yall would pick!

As the pre-show VIP package for Standing is worth more money than the plain Early Entry Standing package, I bet that package will get in first, eh? Chime in your thoughts. Wanna buy something

Live Ghostwriting My Obsessions

I am obsessed with Hexagons. Easily some of the best lyrics Matt’s ever written. Can’t wait to see it live again in Germany, but still hoping for The Dark Forest and Sickness.

And she will ghostwrite my obsessions
Reach out, touch me
And draw me from the sixth dimension
You have been forcing my hand
