Theater Radar (Desktop/Mobile Web Version) open for beta!

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the spam, but I am opening up the beta for the web version of Theater Radar. The app version is almost done, but I figured it might take a month for it to get through the process of getting approval to publish in the App Store. So far, I was able to sign up for Google (Android Devices) and will hopefully be approved and launched within a couple of weeks, but Apple's developer platform is harder to get approval in, so I am working on that.

I did not want to delay the project and figured getting users to test it out and find any bugs or needed adjustments would help things early on. You can access and use the website from both the desktop and mobile phone.

I am currently adding movies, but doing it manually by myself takes time. I created a submission form if anyone wants to help submit future, now playing, or previous movies. You can use TMDB for posters and information (if you want to help submit movies).

Ready to join and help out. Visit https://www.TheaterRadar.com/join

Discussion The Devils

Anyone else get The Devils 1971 screened at your theater? I worked podium and was warned that the movie is NC-17, is VERY graphic, and we had to be a lot more stricter with it since it's the only rating higher than R (No one under 18 is allowed in, period.) Anyone else surprised that that movie was allowed to be screened in theaters?

Discussion PSA: If your location is showing both Other Mommy and Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother, make sure the customer knows they are watching the correct movie

A lady and her husband bought tickets for Other Mommy today, but an hour later she comes out, wanting a refund because she didn't know it would be about a demonic entity. I refunded her, but then and I thought she meant to see Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother. I asked and she said that might have been the one she wanted to see. Unfortunately my location doesn't have showings yet and won't start until tomorrow, so she will have to come another time.

So just a warning to anyone selling tickets, if any customer want to watcher either Other Mommy or Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother, make sure they know they are watching the correct movie. It doesn't help that customers may say a shortened title or something like "the mother" movie. I had a good feeling people would get mixed up because of how similar the movie titles are.

Guest Question How bad is your BoH flooded with popcorn buckets and other unsold merch?

I'm not an employee, but an avid moviegoer and frequent lurker of of the sub. I remember seeing posts a year or so ago of employees talking about how much unsold merch is clogging up their back of house. Now, the popcorn bucket craze was pretty ridiculous last year, but now it seems totally out of control with new unnecessary buckets releasing every week for movies and limited events that definitely don't need them. So I'm just curious if the backstock situation has gotten worse for yall. Because right now the lobby at my local theater is still sitting on a ton of Practical Magic 2, Super Troopers, D&D, Hello Kitty, Insidious, Forgotten Island, Jason Un1v3rse, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Digger buckets with that Whalefall bucket soon to join the pile.

Vent Lazy management

Im an shift lead employee of amc theatres. I dont know about all but it seems the management as a whole is lazy. I deep cleaned both bathrooms, scrub the walls, dust, etc. Deep cleaned the sink and floor arra where all night time dishes are cleaned. Our opening usher didnt show so i took the initiative to do it till i leave. Manager comes and and calls my name and buly the tone i know what he wants me to do. Put away the teuck that came earlier in the morning. He asked if i wanted to switch, i do truck and he user, mind you he just got here and is the manager over stocking and inventory. I didnt wanna and i asked do i have a choice..... he said no.

Am i tripping? Are all managers in the mpvoe theatre business this lazy? All my management team does is sit in their office and HOURS will go by between "sightings".

End rant. Thank you

Vent What the hell is up with Regal right now??

Last night I was the only usher for a 28 plex theater, I've only been working here for like 3 weeks???(only working weekends as well with most of them being concessions) I couldn't even do the trash or closing list, Literal hell on earth. Manager told me it was because corporate was cutting hours, this morning we got an email saying even MORE hours were cut.

I know it's the slow season but this still feels pretty crazy, is it just my theater or are other regals getting the same treatment??

Sorry if I sound like a fat baby I honestly just still feel awful for not being able to finish my duties yk. 😢😢😢😢

Vent Constant ScreenX issues. Are we alone in this?

Hi all, first time poster in here but have been working in theaters for the better part of a decade now. I moved to a theater in New England as a manager that has a ScreenX theater earlier this year, and that screen has been an absolute nightmare to work with the entire time. In the last two days the start trigger hasn’t worked with some shows, and our time code readout on the screen oscillates between being steady and going haywire with random time codes, which then is followed with a de-sync of the four wing projectors. We’ve been told it’s a server uptime issue (the ScreenX server AND the primary projector servers have been rebooted four times in the last two days) or that we aren’t power-cycling the projectors properly (we’ve followed the ScreenX troubleshooting guide to a T every time). Our techs keep claiming issues are solved, only for them to reappear during the next show. I’m getting so sick of having to make excuses and deal with reasonably angry customers who just want to see their movies in the new format. Is anyone else encountering a mountain of issues with this tech or is it just us?

Guest Question Theater popcorn question 🍿

To anyone that works at a movie theater or used to… what popcorn kernels and ingredients are used to make the theater popcorn taste the way it does? Or is it the machine that gives it half the flavor?

Vent Guests bringing pet “children” to their showtime

So my last shift I had a guest ask my coworker “are we allowed to bring our dog child to a movie so he’s not home alone when we do movie marathons?” I stayed out of it but I heard my coworker say “yea I don’t see why not, other people have”. I asked my manager about this and basically we aren’t allowed to deny people bringing their pets to their movies or ask if it’s a service animal even if it doesn’t have on a vest. I understand there are laws where you can’t ask but I’m very frustrated with the fact that someone even asked that because I have a dog allergy and if people catch on then this will become a thing like how people always bring their dogs to Starbucks. Idk it’s annoying there isn’t a rule for this because it’s inconsiderate in my opinion.

Discussion How do you feel about a movie theater that denies entry to ticket holders who arrive late when the movie has already started even if their friends or family are already seated?

How do you feel about a movie theater that denies entry to ticket holders who arrive late when the movie has already started even if their friends or family are already seated?

No exceptions even if they were stuck in traffic. And no refunds, just exchanges.

Story I SAW SNOO

Had an event for Whalefall today and worked at the door all day. Apparently, r/movies had a screening, and some of the actors showed up (which I didn't see 😭). Honestly, it's a very cool event, almost as cool as the Marty Supreme event that I worked on last year. Crazy I saw Snoo.

Side note I work at one of the bussiest locations in NY.
