Made use of the nice weather and got some great views of the river from Sentinel on my climb up the Firewalls today. Glad I got a chance to check out this route before the cold weather really set in.

News Something special

I was walking on the Hip Strip today and noticed a new comic book store right next to the Electronic sound and percussion shop. I think this is something special and unique here… with all the talk on this forum about how many local stores are going out of business, I think it would be nice to promote something new in the hopes that this peaks your interest and maybe your support. I’m not very comic booky but I talked to the owner (a very nice guy) and he suggested a great starter graphic novel. I bought it and am pleasantly surprised :) Hopefully you guys check it out or have kids that might be interested!

Missoula hunting question

General hunting season is almost here and I’m reminiscing about hunting as a youth.

Looking back, by the end of my first season I was only 12, but wandering in the middle of nowhere doing roughly 6 mile remote treks, in pretty deep snow, and didn’t really think much about it. My dad was generally ”in the area”, but we didn’t have devices to communicate or a GPS, just a crappy photocopied map or the area.

If we were lost or in trouble, our system was to build a bonfire, then fire a signal shot every 5 minutes until your out of bullets (we all carried 20 bullets so about 2 hours of signal shots). I don’t know what we would do if we ran out of bullets and no one came? We always found each other if we had an animal down or something went wrong.

I’m curious if the increase in predators (wolves and grizzlies) has changed how young youth hunters go at it alone in the greater Missoula area. We would only maybe see one wolf/griz track a season back then. Now it’s pretty common.

What’s an appropriate age to send a youth hunter off on their own now? What age were you when you were capable to get dropped off in a fairly remote area by another hunting party and able to confidently make a rendezvous, and deal with an animal in the event you are successful on the way?

Renters/someone renting a room.

Been homeless for about a month and am sick of it. I am making good money but it is still a struggle finding anyplace and being homeless is expensive.

Does anyone have a room to rent? The only caviat being my child would be dropped off to me most mornings pretty early(about 6am.) However we likely would not stay inside for long-i usually take him to mcdonalds before school. He is also disabled but the cutest happiest child youd ever know.

Me 37M child 7M ideal cost would be less then 1000 but depending on the place I can be flexible

Question Any shoe store here that sells freakishly large sizes? (I’m talking Men’s 15-17).

Dear Missoula, I have a confession: I have big fucking feet.

Like, feet so big that people literally have shouted at me saying “woah you’ve got really big feet!” and I’ve considered taking a DNA test to see if my ancestry takes my roots back to a North American cryptozoological origin.

I’m talking Men’s 15-17. If it helps, my Chuck Taylor’s Converse size is a Men’s 15/Women’s 17. My current shoe is a 17.

I love/hate going into shoe stores with my friends who have normal feet and one of the workers asks if I need anything. I tell them they don’t have my size. They insist and I tell them anyways.

I watch as the color drains from their face, a bead of cold sweat drops down their brow, and a meek “the largest we have is a 13…” is all their voice can muster. I make sure to take my leave before they call a scientist or animal control.

So… any stores that cater to customers of my variety or am I doomed to shopping online?

Question Good group therapy experiences? Please read body text.

Has anybody ever had good experiences in group therapy around Missoula?

I have been pondering with the thought of trying out group therapy over individual for a while now. Maybe having other peers would be beneficial in some way. I'm looking for things like healthy relationship habits, anxiety and depression, and navigating life in general.

I don't know where to start or who to talk to, but it feels like it's time to take the first step and ask.

Where to get jeans hemmed?

Well, what the title says. If you have a price estimate that would be helpful too. I’m a shorter fella and jeans rarely fit my legs. Thanks

Anybody know what is going on by the Town and Country lounge this morning?

Like 10 cop cars, no EMS or fire trucks at least at about 10am. Saw what looked maybe like a wrecked car, but 10 cop cars is a lot.

Once you know their strategy is “Boot and Hope “ you can kind of sit back and enjoy it. Instead of trying to string some passes together it’s let’s dump it down the pitch hope we win the 50/50 ball and see what happens then.

Need a friend

As the title says and kinda sad. I am going through a very rough divorce that has left me homeless tho should only be for a few more weeks. I really hope. I have money saved housing is rough here.

I am not looking for a place to live or anyone to bum off. I have lost myself and really need a person or people to talk to. This has been the toughest time of my life and I am really really tired of crying alone in my car every night. Like I think its about to end me.

Here's to hoping. Sometimes this sub really comes through and is nice. Others I get called a liar for sharing my real life and not that unbelievable story. I am hoping for the first. Interests include playing guitar(tho do not have one atm) video games and sometimes DnD. Also talking about my amazing kid.

MPM tenant here ✋

How does MPM have a 4.3 star rating on google? They’re the worst property management company I’ve ever dealt with, and every person I’ve ever had a conversation with about MPM has had terrible experiences. I recently heard of a different property management company in MT buying reviews, and wondered if maybe it’s a similar situation??? Has anyone heard anything about this?? I just cannot fathom leaving a 5 star rating to this company at any point I’ve dealt with them.

Question Motorcycle

So weather in Missoula is supposed to be nice still for several more days. I have an odd request I guess you’d call it. I’ve only been on a motorcycle once maybe fifteen years ago when I was still in my early twenties. As I am approaching forty, I have been working hard on myself and life goals and aspirations. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is ride on a decent motorcycle with someone who has been riding a long time and is an experienced driver. Is it weird to ask if any motorcyclists in Missoula would want to drive around with a passenger for no real reason other than the driver wants to get in some rides before the weather turns and have someone tag along to enjoy it as well? To be clear, I don’t want to learn how to drive or have lessons or make this a regular thing. Like a one time thing. And absolutely nothing else to it as in it’s not a date or anything else whatsoever. I also don’t have a helmet so I would have to kindly ask to borrow one as well? I could pay gas money or something but it’s moreso if someone else is kinda lonely and wants a companion for a ride I guess. I also have a prosthetic leg. I can drive my four wheeler fine but the bike would have to be the type that has somewhere for the passenger to safely put their feet. I know this is an odd idea. My dm is private and I am mostly just putting this idea out there.

Making friends in Missoula?

I’m 21F and I have super bad social anxiety. I was wondering if there were any events or things happening this month since it’s Halloween and all. I don’t have any friends to take me out to meet people so I’m trying to go out on my own.

Missoulians drive on the right challenge

Is this post productive? Probably not. Did I just come to a complete stop to avoid a head-on with an F-150 driving down the left side of an otherwise empty street? Sure did. Years ago, did I listen to an argument among educated, sober adults over whether it is legal to drive into oncoming traffic when the car in front of you is stopped? Oh yes. Did I once watch my neighbor who had parked facing the wrong way start his car and proceed directly into an oncoming truck? You betcha. I have driven all over, including Ireland and rural Australia, and the otherwise friendly and decent people of Missoula are the worst drivers I have ever seen. It's not close.

Dornblaser noise 10/18

The Dornblaser field area (can’t tell if it’s the track, soccer field or softball field) started blasting music at 6:45 this morning. WTF are they doing?? I can’t find anything online that’s happening today at 7 in the morning.

Woke up very annoyed, and I’m sure many other people in the neighborhood did too.

Why wasn’t my vote counted?

Post image

I received a voter participation letter which indicated I didn’t vote in the 2024 General Election when I know I turned my ballot in by hand to an official. I did not receive a notice indicating my ballot was rejected. Did anyone else have this happen to them? Did you vote and not have it show counted?
