Please convince me not to buy a clubman!
Hey ya’ll,
Seeking serious advice.
My current car is breaking down, I’m on the hunt for a new one.
While I was searching, my brother-in-law mentioned to me his father is selling his 2023 MINI Clubman Cooper S. I’ve never given thought to look at or even purchase a MINI, and I won’t lie, I wasn’t sure I liked the look of it when he originally sent me the pictures of it, because it’s so different looking.
Then over this weekend, while my sis and BIL went with me to look at some Honda’s I wanted to test drive, my BIL surprised me and said “I just want you to check it out and test drive it, we’re gonna head over.”
So that’s what we did. I sat in the car and absorbed every little detail of it, drove it, put it in sports mode, and thats when it started to hit me. I felt the power, the speed, the sportiness of it alI. I went to check out some Honda’s afterwards but everything just felt so plain and gosh dang boring.
I went home and I couldn’t stop thinking about THAT DAMN CLUBMAN. I even found myself daydreaming riding that car every day. It’s been growing on me every single day since. I even went back to test drive it with my dad, and that didn’t help. It only made me want it more.
For context, the car is in MINT condition and only has 18k miles. My BIL’s dad is known for buying cars, taking pristine care of them and selling them because he has the money to buy another car whenever he wants and changes them out like underwear.
So, he’s only charging me whatever is left on the bill, which is $25k. He’s not making money if I were to buy it, as he got it close to $35k.
Is it worth it? A 2023 clubman, in pristine condition, 18k miles, for $25k.
I’m scared because I heard maintenance is costly, and I got financed for a 6 year loan of $25k. WHAT ARE THE CONS OF THIS CAR? Please help, I’m not sure if this car is reliable and if it will last longer than 6-7 years before it gives or I have to change a major part.
I’m trying to research and convince myself not to buy, because what if it’s not a good investment?
Here is the beauty:
Did I get lucky?
So I JUST purchased a 2022 MINI Cooper JCW from CarMax. There was no mention of a pro exhaust or any other mods in the listing but I found this little guy in the glove box. Battery was dead but it lit right up when I put a new one in!
Made some new pictures of my R53 Cooper S ParkLane
It now has 24900KM on the clock, I’ve added a lot of the OEM accessories:
JCW carbon fibre hood scoop
JCW carbon bootlid
JCW leather dashboard red stitch
JCW leather downtubes red stitch
JCW checkered flag floor mats
JCW carbon fibre / Alcantara handbrake + OEM Alcantara handbrake cover
JCW strut brace
JCW silver intercooler plate ( no JCW tuning kit on this car )
JCW cold air intake ( with flap delete )
OEM Checkered flag valve caps
OEM checkered flag rear view mirror cover
OEM MINI BBS R90 2 piece cross spoke anthracite wheels

Finally parked next to this blue beauty - rule #1!
I've been seeing this Countryman around the time I pick up my lunch every day but it's my first #1'ing it! We could both use a wash 😁

Inspection/repairs under CPO
My wife’s 2022 F55 Mini Cooper S with 30k miles has developed some minor issues that I’d like to address while we still have CPO coverage: noise in a rear left wheel and noise while turning the steering wheel right.
I scheduled an appointment but trying to understand the process better (first time doing repairs under CPO).
- Do we get charged out of pocket for diagnostics/inspection?
- If the issue is confirmed to be covered under warranty, does it cover the diagnostics too?
- Dealer mentioned they provide loaner: are there any restrictions I should be aware of I.e. mileage, time to return when service is done, etc.?
Also, is there anything you’d recommend having a look at before the warranty expires?

Planning some mods
Pretty happy with the spec of my recent purchase (great car enjoying it massively) but toying with some mods. The stripes on the bonnet are non-negotiable, I'm 100% getting them very soon (always feel a Cooper should have the stripes) but toying with the idea of wrapping the front bumper area satin black. I think it's quite an aggressive look love to hear others opinion. I'd need satin headlight surrounds to match, and possibly side rails too.

Rule #1 - One Bonnet Stripe
Came across a F55 same color, not S, and only 1 stripe. Now I just need to find one without stripe to complete the set!

My Countryman got sick on my way to work this morning
Chester is a 2016 Countryman S ALL4. I believe the oil all came out of the dipstick tube. No CEL. I've been told PCV valve and get a catch can. Community thoughts?

If Countryman continues to perform poorly in U.S. sales, will BMW consider dropping this model for the U.S. market as its sales down 28+% in Q3 of 2026?

The final quarter of 2026 is almost reaching to the middle and it's important to MINI in particularly Countryman to see if the sales will rebound.
Q3 of 2026 was brutal to Countryman as its sales dropped over 28%.
If Countryman continues to have sales drop in coming months and no longer profitable will BMW consider getting rid of it from the U.S. lineup?

Rule 1 -- Twins?
Saw an Issigonis Mini parked where I worked a number of years ago, so I had to stage and take this pic!

PPF for digital gauge cluster
Previous owner left some scratches on the gauge cluster - instead of buffing it I was recommended to put PPF on it. I got the glossy one instead of the matte film and really liking the enhanced clarity on the screen so far (oh yeah and the scratches are invisible)
Convince me not to buy a r55 and put a supercharged engine in it
I love my r53, and Ive been into minis for years. My only complaint? Not enough room. Ive had other minis besides my r53 and none of them have put a smile on my face as much as my supercharged mini. I've been looking at a r55 that was put for parts because the engine doesn't turn over/ won't start. I have a supercharged W11 in my garage and I really want to buy it and put it in. Convince me not to. Minis are taking over my life.

My first Mini
I just purchased this from a mechanic last week. I love it so much but this light started coming on the next day. He did a ton of work to it before selling it to me and I 100% trust he wouldn't intentionally sell me this car with a major issue. Should I be concerned?

Adaptive headlights problem
Hello, i bought an r56 cooper s recently, and i noticed that my left headlight is always pointing to the left, exept if i turn right or put in reverse, in that case they go to center, the right one works fine, just the left one does this, i know my stearing angle sensor is ok because i check that recently and i also already adjusted my headlights with the engine running and the stearing wheel center
What might be the problem?

Tire sensor/winter set u25 jcw
Just bought a JCw u25 countryman. Loving it so far, dealer gave me a set of all seasons, I’m trying to buy a set for winter. Got a really nice deal on an Audi set up and was wondering how the tpms works for u25, do I need to recalibrate? Will it automatically adjust on its own? What aftermarket sensors work for the countryman?
Picture for what it looks like enhanced by ai.

R56 headlight housing adapter
Apparently there was a change to the internals on the R56 headlight housing. The first photo is the old housing, second is new. Does anyone know the correct adapter to have the bulb fit the new housing?
Did some digging with chat GPT but couldn’t get anywhere solid.
