Newsflash: Who you larp != who you support irl
Can't believe I have to say this, but LARPing as Russians/NK/China/etc does not mean you support their policies or actions IRL. MilSim is a modern two sided wargame, one of which is inevitably the "bad guys". So I don't really get when people come into this sub, attacking other users for who they emulate in an expensive big boy game of toy soldiers. From here on out this will be considered flaming, and we will be handing out 7 day bans for it and 14 day bans for personal threats. Repeated behavior will be dealt with harshly, at the admin team's discretion and leisure.
THAT SAID, we don't allow political talk on this sub, period. So keep the news of XYZ country's latest atrocity, or your poll on whether Biden, Bibi, Xi, Putin, or Zelensky is the reincarnation of Hitler OUT of our little subreddit. We want to foster a welcoming vibe, to grow the activity. So act that way.
Have fun, play nice. Or else.

Slavyanka (Voronezh) Gorka-3 Breakdown — Or how to wear a literal canvas tent
Today, I wanted to share a rather interesting piece from the world of military surplus: a complete, authentic Gorka-3 suit (Костюм горный ветрозащитный) manufactured by Slavyanka in Voronezh, Russia.
Quick disclaimer: I have no intention of building or running Russian kits in the future. This post is purely about technical details, manufacturer identification, tag decoding, and the history of military clothing. I figured fellow gear enthusiasts, surplus collectors, and military clothing nerds might appreciate a closer look.
- The Manufacturer: Slavyanka (Славянка)
Unlike the numerous commercial reproductions and airsoft-oriented knockoffs on the market, this example bears the manufacturer's markings associated with Slavyanka, a clothing manufacturer based in Voronezh.
The garment features the company's distinctive flame logo on its interior label, making the manufacturer's markings an interesting detail for anyone researching Russian surplus clothing.
The company has produced workwear and military-style garments. However, the exact procurement status and military contract history of this particular example would require additional documentation to establish conclusively.
- The Fabric: Old-School Canvas Construction
One of the most interesting aspects of this Gorka-3 is its material construction.
Main body: Heavy cotton canvas (палаточная ткань)
The fabric resembles the traditional heavy cotton material associated with military shelter halves and tents, commonly referred to as palatka.
Rather than relying entirely on modern waterproof membranes, tightly woven cotton canvas works through a combination of fabric density and the swelling of cotton fibers when wet. This can improve its resistance to wind and water, although it does not make the garment fully waterproof.
In other words, this is old-school outdoor clothing built around simple materials rather than modern technical fabrics.
Reinforcements: Dark olive fabric
Additional reinforcement panels cover high-wear areas, including the elbows, shoulders, seat, knees, and lower legs.
These panels are intended to improve durability in areas exposed to abrasion from vegetation, rough terrain, and repeated contact with the ground.
The precise composition of the reinforcement fabric would need to be confirmed from its original specifications or material testing.
- Decoding the Russian Size Tag
The interior label reads:
170–176 / 108–96 / 54–5
Russian military and surplus clothing labels can initially look confusing, but the numbers generally correspond to height and body measurements.
Here's how to interpret this particular tag:
170–176: The listed height range, in centimetres.
108–96: The listed chest and waist measurements, respectively, in centimetres.
54–5: The size designation and height group.
A size designation of 54 corresponds to a nominal chest circumference of approximately 108 cm in the conventional Russian sizing system.
The height-group number 5 is part of the garment's sizing classification. Its exact interpretation should be checked against the applicable sizing standard rather than assumed to correspond to a particular height range independently of the printed measurements.
One important consideration: Gorka suits are generally designed as relatively loose-fitting outer garments. This provides room for additional clothing underneath, which is particularly useful in cold conditions.
The takeaway: Don't judge the fit of a Gorka by comparing its nominal size directly with a modern European jacket. The intended layering system and oversized cut matter just as much.
- Design Features Worth Noticing
A few construction details stand out on this example.
Canadian-style buttons
The buttons are attached using cloth tape rather than relying solely on conventional thread attachment. This construction can make them easier to secure and repair in the field.
High-rise trouser waistband
The trousers feature a particularly high rear waistband. This helps maintain coverage around the lower back when bending, crouching, or moving around in awkward positions.
It's a practical detail for an outer garment intended to be worn over several layers.
Dust gaiters (пыльники)
The trouser legs incorporate internal elasticated sections designed to help keep debris out of the lower legs.
Depending on the fit and how they're worn with boots, these sections can help limit the entry of dirt, vegetation, and snow.
- Why This Example Is Interesting
What interests me about this suit is its combination of traditional materials, reinforced construction, and practical design choices.
The Gorka-3 represents a different approach to field clothing from today's lightweight, synthetic technical apparel. Its design prioritizes a relatively simple, loose-fitting outer layer that can be worn over other garments and repaired without particularly specialized equipment.
For collectors, the manufacturer markings and sizing label are also useful details when documenting individual examples of Russian surplus clothing.
Disclaimer: Manufacturer identification and garment features are observations from this example; the exact production date, procurement history, and material specifications remain unverified.

Hi guys, digging through my old LARP/Airsoft gear from 15 years ago and I'm wondering whether this is a copy or RS, and which model it is. Can't find a label or remains of one.

Best Milsim/HAM radio
I currently have a UV5R the classic radio noob starter. I am looking at getting a PRC-152 replica for Milsim and general HAM radio usage (listening to repeaters and regular nerd stuff). I’m torn on which manufacturer and model I should go for so this is What I need out of the radio, hoping someone can point me in the right direction:
Good signal reception
Good transmission quality
Waterproof
UHF, VHF, FM, AM
Long lasting battery life
Rugged build
Looks like a real 152
If you think there’s a better radio than a rep 152 for HAM stuff drop it below too! I want to hear all the opinions and personal experiences!

Anyone wanna make a team at Milsim West (Pala, Ca)
I wanna make a team of Force Recon or Marsoc Raiders with M81 Woodland or Marpat Desert. I don’t have a Multicam kit and I really don’t wanna spend the money to make one. If 9 people could hit me up if they are going it would be appreciated!

What’s the best place to find authentic gear? Is there a certain subreddit or forum? Thanks for the help.
