Zito more serious in the 2nd season?

Post image
24 Upvotes

First time watching miami vice, just finished the 2nd season, so I know the backstory of John diehl wanting off the show in the 3rd season and the fate of zito because of feeling creatively unfulfilled on the show, i was watching some BTS of the 1st season and him wanting his character to be a bit more serious, did anyone notice it as well while watching the 2nd season, i guess that's what he was going for, i miss that 1st season feel of zito and switek being a great comedic duo :(

Question Which cameos (outside of the original main cast) would you be excited to see in the new movie?

I’d be really excited to see Giancarlo Esposito considering the number of times he showed up in the original series.

Discussion Does anyone else think Walton Goggins was a casting mistake?

I've never seen him in anything except a Walmart commercial and he seems soft of gay to me.

Discussion I met Penn Jillette at the NETWORLD / INTEROP trade show in Atlanta in 2000.

He was standing in a booth by himself and he called out to me, so I walked over to talk to him to see what he was promoting.

I asked him what he does for his company because I didn't recognize him.

He got pissed off at me and told me that I should recognize him because he's famous.

I took a moment and looked at him and remembered him from Miami Vice and told him that I did remember him from MV.

That make him almost become violent towards me.

He admitted that he had been on MV, but went on about how he had done a hell of a lot more than that since then.

I kept it cool and told him that I'm sorry, but I don't go to the movies or watch anything except the news and I spend all of my time online researching stuff for my classes which are based on information technology.

But, that didn't calm him down at all and he broke down and just started calling me an asshole and telling me "fuck you."

I don't know what's wrong with him, but I did eventually figure out he was involved in with the Penn and Teller, or whatever their names are, but I didn't think they were very funny.

I guess he expected me to lick his boots.

Would it bother you if Sonny & Tubbs dont work together until midway point or the 3rd act?

I know the pilot will be very influential. However, they really dont interact until the end of episode 1 & arent a team until he 2nd episode.

I sort of assumed it was going to be like the 2006 movie, but once we saw NY outfit Tubbs its got me wondering.

Discussion Finally finished the finale!

Had watched through the whole series about a month ago but was putting off the finale. Warning, spoilers below.

Part 1 was pretty decent, lots of action that was fun to watch but it didn't have too much that really stood out to me.

Part 2 I really liked, it felt good to have the crew back in Miami. The conspiracy stuff was intriguing, and I loved that the finale showdown was a (albeit obvious) parallel to the In the Air Tonight scene, with the driving sequence and the seaplane leaving last minute. And even with Tubbs getting shot in the shoulder.

I also liked Castillo showing up at the end and telling them they didn't have to turn in their badges, and that he would have their back. I do wish he and the rest of the vice crew made more of an appearance (Oh, I guess Switek had some good moments redeeming himself). A heartfelt moment with Gina and Crockett could've been nice.

The final goodbye to each other, then them driving off into the sunset and repeating the "Southern Law Enforcement" line, implying that nothing can stop their powerful bromance, was great. And I liked the little flashback montage for the credits.

All in all, a good watch! I'm sad it's over but I'm glad the show is so rewatchable. Also I have to admit I am happy that the new movie is coming out. Feels like there's something to look forward to and that my time with Miami Vice isn't over (even if nobody can ever replace Don Johnson and PMT, not to mention Olmos).

People who were new to Miami Vice - what misconceptions did you have about the show going into it?

I remember not realizing how stylistic it would be. The shots of the car during the "In the Air Tonight" scene seemed ahead of its time. I also remember watching that on Youtube and thinking it was from the finale of the show or something because it seemed so momentous and serious.

Miami Vice (2006) Official Trailer #1 - initial thoughts?

We'll have a Trailer 1 for the next Miami Vice movie here in a bit.

In the meantime, what did you guys think of the first trailer for 2006 Miami Vice movie? Not the final released movie, just the trailer.

Does this give you Miami Vice vibes or nah?

Personally, I've seen this movie about 100 times, it's one of my go-to movies to have on along with a few others from Michael Mann... particularly Heat and Manhunter. I absolutely loved it, 10 /10 and I'm always seeing new references that come from the show.

Discussion A warm welcome to all the new Miami Vice fans! 🌴🌅

With all the excitement surrounding MV ’85, it’s been really lovely seeing so many people discovering Miami Vice for the very first time, revisiting episodes, diving deep into the characters, discussing the music and fashion, and finding their way into this subreddit.

Whether you’ve been watching since the original 1980s run or you’ve only just met Crockett and Tubbs, welcome! ❤️

One of the best things about a show like Miami Vice is that there’s always something new to appreciate, whether it’s a brilliant performance, a hidden detail, an incredible soundtrack, the cinematography, or a deeper meaning behind an episode.

And if you’re new here, don’t be afraid to ask questions, share your theories, or talk about what you’re discovering. That’s what makes a community like this so enjoyable.

It’s fantastic to see the show finding new fans all these years later. Here’s to keeping the spirit of Miami Vice alive, sharing our love for the series, and welcoming everyone who’s just getting started.
New fans, old fans, and everyone in between, you’re all welcome here. 😎🌴🚤
In the immortal words of Phil Collins… 🎶

Discussion Could Ludwig Göransson be doing the music for MV85?

This is pure speculation, but apparently he's been doing pretty much everything in Hollywood these days. He did the Mandalorian soundtrack, Oppenheimer, Odyssey, and a bunch of other stuff. I could see him being a worthy candidate for replicating a Jan Hammer-esque soundtrack for the modern era.

Discussion What are your hopes and/or worries with Miami Vice ‘85

Personally, I’m worried that they might just do a retread of the pilot episode, but that being said I really want a remake of the “in the air tonight” scene.

In football terms I get why some were letdown by Austin Butler's casting as Sonny. He's supposed to be a former great WR.

Sonny played at UF. Everyone associates Sonny as a scuffed up & scrappy character. If he was a WR in the modern NFL you'd think a Julian Edleman or Cooper Kupp type. Tough, takes dangerous shots but still gets it done and a winner. Don sold that and you can see the footballer in his identity.

Austin Butler seems like a different kind of WR. More finesse, but capable of big plays. Just not always as consistent. You wonder if he could make the dirty plays. In modern NFL thats a Alec Pierce type. You cant ask Alec Pierce to play like Julian Edleman. Thats a different skillset. However, I think with Kosinski (the right coach) he's going to elevate to a Jordy Nelson.

*lighthearted thread*
