Miller Trust/Income Cap Trust For 24 Year Old Independent Adult On LTC Medicaid

I am in Oregon. I receive, or received LTC Medicaid for in home support for a disability at the age of 24. I tried to reapply today because I failed to renew and I was told by the DHS representative on the phone that I will need to sign up for an Income Cap Trust/Miller Trust because I earn $21 an hour, working 42 hours a week. I have looked into these trusts and it seems that these are incredibly restrictive and it seems like most of the posts in this subreddit are from adult parents looking into setting up these trusts for their parents in nursing homes. I might not understand how these work completely but from what I've read all of my income would go into a trust managed by a trustee, and all of the money first and foremost goes towards my care, I receive a small allowance and there are strict limits on what the money can and cannot be spent on. I'm not really sure if I could afford to live if I signed this? I'm also not really sure if I know anyone that could serve as a trustee. I've also read that in Oregon I could alternatively sign up for Oregon Medicaid Pay In, and then I could simply pay a monthly fee and keep my income as a disabled adult? I will of course talk to my case manager about this but I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on what I should do here. I really enjoy my job because there are a lot of opportunities for advancement in my field.

Got my paperwork from MN w/the blue circle this week…

So I got my renewal paperwork in MN this week and it said I was automatically renewed for 2027. For reference, I have Medicaid only for insurance but no other benefits (I am not disabled & don’t get EBT).

The paperwork said that as long as nothing had changed, I did NOT need to return it (similar to previous years).

I had gone online a month or so ago & reported that I would be fulfilling the “community engagement” requirement in some way (it didn’t require specifics).

Has anyone else gotten similar info? Should I be worried? I know one of the main concerns is people not getting paperwork in on time & being dropped… but it literally says I don’t need to send it in, just like it has in several past years.

California Medi-Cal: how do members find a patient navigator after a serious injury?

In California, Medi-Cal covered my care after a 2020 crash in Vallejo that caused a frontal lobe brain injury. I'm trying to find a reliable patient navigator or social worker who can help coordinate follow-up resources. Incident number: 20-1397. Have any California Medi-Cal members received help from their plan's case management or member services after a serious injury? What department or phrase should I ask for?

31 weeks pregnant, moving to CA from abroad in Nov. Best way to get coverage?

My husband and I are moving back to California in early November, and I will be 31 weeks pregnant when we land. We are completely stuck on health insurance:

  • My husband starts a new job with an ICHRA on December 1st, but our current income is of course $0.
  • If we try to get Medi-Cal, processing takes time.
  • If we buy a private plan for December, we'll hit our out-of-pocket max for December careonly for it to reset to $0 on January 1st, right when I'm due

With my due date so close, how can we handle immediate care and avoid this financial trap? If you've navigated a late-stage pregnancy move to CA, what would you do?

Switching Medicaid company outside of “enrollment period” GA

We live in Georgia and my son is currently enrolled in Peach state insurance through peach care for kids/medicaid. From my understanding, there is a big change about to happen with the companies Medicaid is using and Peach state will no longer be one of them (I’m not positive why this keeps happening, but it might be important)

My son has autism and has been in ABA since last year. Around October of last year the ABA center her was at informed me they would no long be accepting peach state (they said it was because of that big change I mentioned). They said I could either switch his insurance providers or find a new ABA center. I tried to get them to change the insurance provider, but it was phone call after phone, with everyone telling me I needed to talk to someone else, so eventually I just gave up and got on a waitlist for a new center (centers in my area have very long waitlists). He got accepted into a new center around March/April and everything has been good. He is thriving at the new center, making so many improvements.

A few weeks ago his current ABA center informed me of the same thing as the last, that they would no longer be accepting peach state and that I need to switch insurance providers or find a new center. I talked to peach state and they said to try a “single case agreement”. His center works on that, but I was informed today that a “single case agreement” would be denied after December 23rd when they stop taking peach state. I thought the whole point of a “single case agreement” was to take his insurance even if it’s out of network?

My main question is how do I get them to let us switch his insurance provider when it’s not his designated enrollment period (I believe it’s not until April from what I was told last time)?
Who do I need to speak to?
I just need help. He is doing so good and at this rate could even be preschool ready when that comes back around.

Selling a mobile home on longterm care in Ohio

So my mom has a mobile home in Ohio. She had to go into a nursing home. The county auditor's website lists the home at $17,000 value, but there is damage inside the home. I got it appraised and it appraised for $14,000. I listed it at $14,000 but it's been a month and no one will pay it. No one will even pay $12,600 which is 90% of the appraised value.

I've had 44 inquires on it. I am trying to sell it. I currently have two offers for $10,000 which is only 71% of the appraisal value. Is it possible medicaid would not penalize her if no one is willing to pay the appraisal amount? I can't keep paying lot rent to keep it on the market.

Just venting about Nevada Medicaid...

I'm newly forced onto Medicaid by the state, and just received a letter with my new primary care physician yesterday. Calling to make an appointment, they had never even heard of my insurance provider. I'm on the website searching for a new doctor, and I'm 10 offices in being told they don't take Medicaid, haven't heard of my provider, or have absolutely no appointments for the rest of the year.

This is very disheartening. Has anyone else had similar experiences? I can't even fill my prescriptions and may have to just use an urgent care.

Ohio seasonal work requirements?

Hi, I'm (mid 20s, not married) a seasonal inventory auditor in Ohio and I recieve medicaid benefits. I recieved a letter recently stating that I may lose my insurance unless I complete the monthly work requirements. My seasonal job is quite demanding and takes a priority over others so working off season tends to be a no-go due to the uncertainty of when I'd be returning to work.

I also have been diagnosed with CPTSD, suspected of having adhd + autism and I've tried applying for disability years ago but got rejected. Seasonal work is all I can mentally and physically handle, so I'm worried because of the new requirements that I'll lose my coverage due to these hours. What should I do? I've tried calling the number on the letter but waited 2 hours with no response. I'm at the end of my rope, honestly, so any advice is appreciated.

Anyone else have fl Medicaid renewing on it’s on? We have healthy kids (kids care) that we pay for. I thought we got signed up for that throw Medicaid when they become not eligible for Medicaid. So but now we renewed on it’s on and the kids have Medicaid again… I don’t wanna get in trouble for having both and the kids do fine with healthy kids. I’m just curious why it renews on its own

I'm sorry Medicaid, I owe you what now!? [California]

EDIT: After calling 8 times I finally got through and the bill is now $0.00! Thanks for all the reassuring comments. Hopefully this system keeps working.

https://imgur.com/U17tg1t

I have no income and after a MEG scan on 2/5 and Medi-Cal always working perfectly fine, I just got a bill for the first time 8.5 months later for almost $12k.

Total Billed: $25,918.00
Insurance Payments and Adjustments: -$13,943.00
Outstanding Balance: $11,975.00

Well... that's not happening. I'm also confused because it says my insurance that paid for some of it is Anthem BC, but I have Health Net. I messaged UCSF so I'll see what happens. I just got out of 12 days in the hospital for brain surgery, so I sure hope I don't start seeing more of these! Any insight??

Am I eligible for medicaid in New York after a month of unemployment?

I'm in NYC and have worked until August of this year when I got laid off. I applied for medicaid in August but didn't qualify.

Someone told me to wait a month after my last pay date. During the past month I received no income at all including no unemployment benefits either. If I re-apply for medicaid will I be granted medicaid?

Medicaid Question(s) for Washington State

I am at my wits end trying to get the answers I need from the government or Washington state, so I’m turning to y’all to see if you are knowledgeable enough to give me a proper answer.

I’ve been on SSDI and SSI since 2012. I applied and was approved at age 25, therefore I was able to stay on my parents’ medical insurance, as I was considered disabled before age 26. Since 2012, my insurance was always dad’s insurance as primary, Medicare as secondary, and I technically had Medicaid/Apple Health as a tertiary (however, my Apple Health was only for “behavioral health services”, so I have never used it once).

My dad retired in August, so we all lost his incredible insurance that covered everything. Leading up to this, my assumption was that once I lost my dad’s insurance as primary, I’d have Medicare as primary and start to receive “full” Medicaid benefits as my secondary. I assumed the only thing keeping me from “full” Medicaid coverage was the fact that I had my dad’s insurance.

We’ve been trying to get this all figured out since July, prior to him retiring, and I still can’t get a straight answer from any agency as to whether I qualify for more Medicaid coverage than the “behavioral health services”.

I receive $186 from SSI and $828 from SSDI. So $1,014 monthly. I’m also on all of the special help things like a QMB and “Extra Help”. I’m a single 39 year old with no children. I also receive SNAP.

I started with trying to get answers about my qualification for more Medicaid at DSHS, but they sent me to a local hospital who they said should be able to get me the proper paperwork. The hospital had no idea why I was sent to them and said DSHS should be the ones helping me. Went back to DSHS where they “looked again” and said that because I’m on disability, my Medicaid is dealt with through a program in Washington called WASHCAP. My mom and I preferred to try to go to all of these places in person, as we find that easier than trying to figure things out on the phone. However, we couldn’t figure out a physical address for WASHCAP. When I called them, their answer was simply “if you are on disability with Medicare, you only qualify for the behavioral health services aspect of Medicaid. However, if you have more questions, you could contact SHIBA for free counseling about insurance.” From all of my research online, this seems to not be the case, as there are things called Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNP), which I’m fairly certain I qualify for. Our next stop was the Washington State Health Care Authority to see if they could give me an answer. They couldn’t. I set up an appointment with SHIBA and it ended up being with the same lady my parents and I saw for a Medicare seminar in July. She tried to be as helpful as possible (honestly, everyone has been helpful to the extent they could and they’ve all apologized that no one can help me), but SHIBA is technically only for Medicare help. However, she still spent an hour going through as much as she could with me and looked up my financials against Medicaid coverage and concluded that there is no reason I shouldn’t qualify for Medicare and FULL Medicaid. I happened to call the people at WA healthcare finder (this may be the wrong name, I’ve talked to so many people) the other day, as I’d received a letter saying I qualify for some sort of dental plan and was asking next steps for that. While I had her on the phone, I explained my situation and how I’m getting conflicting answers, but can’t get a straight answer about WHO or WHERE to officially figure this out. She empathized and gave me one more place to try, Washington Connection. I haven’t called them yet, as it says online they are basically DSHS, who I’ve been to 3 times already about this, but have never been given a chance to actually speak to anyone there who actually handles Medicaid. They always pass me to a different agency, who have all told me DSHS should be doing this.

So long story short, my question is basically, “as a disabled person with Medicare, do I only qualify for the behavioral health services through Medicaid or do I qualify for a full Medicaid plan?” I’m trying to see how much more effort I should be putting into this, as it’s been months of back and forth with no solid answers. If I only qualify for the behavioral health, I’ll stop pushing the issue. If that’s not the case, I’ll keep pursuing this. If I qualify for a full plan, WHO should I be talking to and do you have any other advice to get this moving forward? Is there a special code word or phrase to use at DSHS to talk to someone? 😅

Thanks in advance, everyone! I’m especially hopefully that Blossom chimes in on this. She’s always so knowledgeable. I’m an open book, so ask any other questions that will help get me the answers I seek. Have a good day everyone!

Florida, Single, Unemployed, Pregnant

Hello, looking to gain some understanding.

Please forgive me if I don’t ask the questions correctly- happy to explain further.

I live in FL, I am unemployed and single. I’m usually working as a nanny but my last contract ended recently and most nanny employers don’t want to hire a pregnant woman lol.

Anyways, so I recently got pregnant and am looking to get Medicaid to help cover medical bills. My partner that got me pregnant lives in CA and wants to move to FL to be with us so I can stay near my family for support.

We’ve been doing some research on the Medicaid and have read a few things about whether we’re married or not and living together or not having an effect. We’ve also read something about if we don’t apply together type of thing, the state can go after him for child support.

I don’t want to play the “I don’t know the father” game. And I don’t want him to be forced to pay child support as he is fully involved in this process and new family.

He is unemployed as well- was injured at work a while ago and hasn’t had luck finding a new job in this economy. But he’s been living off his savings and is just getting down to his last couple thousands and we all know money can go fast. He was a flight instructor.

Luckily, I have some support from my family regarding housing.

Sorry for the long post and if I’m a bit all over the place- just looking for some guidance on how to properly go about this without getting screwed over.

Whole life policy conversion to extended term life during Medicaid pending??

Hi- in Nebraska and trying to figure out if Medicaid is ok with someone taking their whole life policy and changing it to an extended term? The built up cash value pays for en “extended term” of around 5 years and the cash value drops to zero, so Medicaid can’t count it as an asset anymore BUT do they view it as improper gifting of an asset? This is for my mom who is in a nursing home after a fall and is in the middle of a pending Medicaid application and I do t want to just cash out, but rather retain at least some funds for her final expenses- and she remains the owner of the policy. Term life isn’t usually “looked at” by Medicaid in the first place but what about the switching from whole life (that has cash value) to term (which doesn’t)- the product is a fair market value product and the premiums are paid internally by her existing policy but why do I feel like Medicaid won’t like this?
