Discussion Death Cure Broke me
I originally watched the movies first before reading the books, and just finished the trilogy and I am forever impacted by the series. The first two were absolutely incredible, and the twists and turns it took were great. The Scorch Trials mentally broke me because of the amount of anxiety I felt sitting on the edge of my seat praying to God Teresa wasn’t evil just to find out she wasn’t and Thomas no longer felt anything for her. Then there’s The Death Cure….
The Death Cure mentally broke me for a completely different reason. Half the book was just “Random screwing around” and hating on Teresa for no god damn reason until they finally actually started doing stuff. I would’ve been fine with this if it weren’t for the fact that Dashner not only gave the most unsatisfactory and rushed ending ever, but he also just pissed me the F off. Teresa was handled horribly in The Death Cure, written off with the worst death I’ve ever seen for a main character and that wasn’t a worthy death at. Thomas and Teresa didn’t reconcile, they were meant to be together from the very beginning and instead Dashner said “F my fans I’m gonna some fanfiction type shi”. He literally wrote off the main heroine/love interest and replaced her with a side character. Don’t get me wrong I actually really liked Brenda in the second book, but what was he doing? I finished the third book and it made me so pissed off and sad that I went to go watch The Scorch Trials and Death Cure movie so that I could see Thomas and Teresa actually reconcile and actually have a satisfactory ending.
Im so emotionally distraught from this that I’m genuinely aboutta just download a pdf for The Scorch Trials and Death Cure books and rewrite them so that I can give myself a good ending. I may only be 15, but I am actually passionate about writing and have written some good stuff. Obviously never on this scale, BUT F IT, if it makes me sleep better at night pretending that my rewritten version of Thomas and Teresa’s ending allowed them to actually be together and be at least decently well written then I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna fix my distraught by doing what James couldn’t. Let me know what yall think, is this a terrible idea?
