Don't Cry Because it's Over, Smile Because it Happened - The Box Office Mega Thread

This is the place for all box office discussion. All other threads will be reduced to mulch.

Well, it looks like the box office battle may be over, but let's keep it positive. I, for one, never thought we'd get another movie in a million years, much less one that's as awesome and lovingly done as this one. This doesn't mean we won't see anything else, Amazon has other metrics for success, so maybe a show, a cartoon, whatever to continue this story.

Let's give the cast and crew another round of applause. We got our first AMA's thanks to the movie!

And still go see/re-see the movie. It's fantastic on the big screen.

Review: MotU Chronicles Skeletor (the normal one, no Gym Bro or Dream Date)

Prelude: Every epic fantasy movie needs an awesome, scenery-chewing villain. In 1987 Frank Langella gave us just that for the first Masters of the Universe movie. Now it’s time to look at Skeletor from the 2026 movie and his toy incarnation (one of many), Chronicles Skeletor. So grab your ram staff, pull on your purple cape, and give it your best evil laugh. Let’s say NIA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!

Review: Skeletor as we’ve seen him in the new movie takes a back-to-basics approach, which we find mirrored in this toy figure here. Blue skin, dark purple trunks, boots, and hooded, cape, and a nice skull for a head. All present and accounted for. The new look minimizes the old chest harness into a smaller piece, but otherwise this is your classic Skeletor right here and very close to the character we saw on the movie screen, too.

Skeletor has the articulation you expect from a modern-day MotU collectible figure (previously Masterverse, now Chronicles), so very good. He comes with two pairs of hands you can switch out, as well as his familiar ram staff. It’s been redesigned for the new movie, but still quite recognizable. The skull head is superbly detailed and features an opening jaw, as well as two tiny red dots for glowing eyes. Very nice.

The only slightly negative point is that none of his attire is removable. The hood is glued to the skull, the cape is glued to the chest piece, which in turn is glued to the torso. A removable hood would have been nice, but that’s really a nitpick, nothing more.

So bottom line: an excellent toy version of Skeletor as we saw him in the 2026 movie. No more, no less.

Remarks: Nearly 40 years after Frank Langella gave an epic performance as Skeletor in the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie, Jared Leto showed us a new spin on the Overlord of Evil. And whatever you might think of Jared Leto as a person, his performance was awesome. Skeletor was an unapologetic villain with a macabre sense of humor, no unnecessary tragic backstory, and also a perfect example of toxic masculinity in that he only defined himself by his power and was scared of it all being taken away.

The Chronicles figure here does exactly what it set out to do, namely depict that character we saw in the movie, done. That job has been achieved fully. Sure, the figure is rather plain in comparison with some other recent MotU figures, but again, that’s by design. We wanted Skeletor, we got him. Mission accomplished.

Rating: A-

Got the Walmart Exclusive 4K Blu Ray Variant

Went to Walmart early this morning and had to scavenge around to find this. It had an “Only at Walmart” sticker on the slipcover that I took off, so it seems that the Skeletor slipcover (and probably the case’s Adam cover) may be exclusive to Walmart. Wanted to post to raise awareness in case anyone else may be interested in it. The Walmart app said the 4K was out of stock in the store, but there was one left, so you may have to just go in to see if they have them. The app did show that the regular blu ray was in stock at the store, though, in case that may be a bit of an indication of the 4K potentially being available in the store. Also, it’s just one disc instead of a 4K + Blu Ray combo, which seems to be exclusive to the steel book.

Hidden Master of the Universe in Neagley (2026)

OK, so maybe not hidden. There was a brief focused shot.

This episode has been out for five weeks now, so I'm not sure if it's been discussed here or not. Roboto appears in episode six in a pen pot on Neagley's desk. This marks the heroic mechanical warrior's second onscreen appearance this year, after the live-action movie.

Humidity concerns

I got part of my origins collection on shelves and my sealed single cardeds in the PET cases hanging on the wall. The other sealed that aren't single figures I don't have protections for, so I keep all of them in boxes.

My house sits in a lagoon basically. Humidity is kinda high over here but I think I am managing it by having a dehumidifier on for a couple hours a day, until it shows 65/70. What are your experiences with this issue? It did some damage to other stuff of mine in the past.

If I had a nickel for...

...every 200X He-man and Skeletor figures MONDO has released, I’d have 6 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it has happened 6 times. 😆

Anyway, I'm patiently waiting for MAA, Teela and Clawful to ship. As great as these guys are, I need more variety upon my shelf!

Today, we cover the many versions of the Headstrong Master of the Universe. The Bombastic human Battering Ram. Ram Man!

My favourite version is from the 2000s cartoon. That version was headstrong but had a big heart and would fight to the death for his friends.

Which version is your favourite?

80s cartoon

2000s cartoon

Kevin Smith version (a more memorable cameo appearance)

Female version from CGI cartoon

2026 film

Tales from Eternia

Mondo 1:12 Man-At-Arms (200x)

Thumbnail

Mondo has rapid fire released the new Man-At-Arms shortly after its Teela (200x) release (relatively speaking) and I'm here for it.

Not surprising, Mondo's designers and sculptors are top tier. The figure is filled with such a fantastic level of detail. I love how the orange armor looks... like its filled with tech but also home forged. The green parts look like he's wearing an armor body suit, just like the original 200x toy. I also love the heads that were included.

At least on my copy, the figure articulates nicely. No locked joints like the previously released Teela. So the figure articulates smoothly, for the most part. I do wish there was some sort of butterfly joints to give some extra in/out chest movement. And despite the double jointed elbows, you can only get about 90° of bend there. Despite this, it works well enough. Its not like Duncan is supposed to be a super agile character, so what articulation we get works for the character.

I do have some gripes, though.

First off, considering the price, I do wish there were more accessories. Two maces? That feels redundant. I would have loved more weapons... he is Man-At-Arms after all. If not more weapons, more weapon effects would have been nice. At there very least, I wish there were more hands. At least a pair of open/relaxed hands.

Speaking of hands, my second gripe: weak wrist for the weapon holding hands. Someone on another subreddit mentioned it and I was hoping it was just a one off... but my figure also suffered from weak wrists. The maces are so heavy that you can only hold them at very specific angles before the weight and gravity rotates them and flops around. Really disappointing and frustrating if you want to try and pose the figure dynamically.

Despite those flaws, however, the figure is beautiful to look at and looks so good with all of the other figures that have been released in this line so far. If Mondo could just tighten up its QC across all of their figures, then they would be perfect.

Help from the community

Hello MOTU fans. I have a couple of questions. Been collecting Origins since the beginning. I've seen photo of collectors that have Mekaneck and Prince Adam carded with the blister packaging attached to the board. Where can you find the repro boards and blister packaging? Any help is appreciated. Good Jouney

I was a little surprised Skeletor doesn’t have much articulation in his neck and arm, but I guess with the electronics it makes sense. Either way, he’s amazing and this duo is very worth it.
