Assent vote results: Misinformation & Personal feelings being phrased as facts
I'm seeing many people voicing their opinion on how they are upset with the results of the Assent Vote.
This in itself is fine and totally normal behaviour, but the issue lies within what is being posted.
I'm seeing a lot of false information being shared, and it all seems to be based on false information, confusion and/or lack of understanding on what we were voting on, or simply sharing their own personal opinion on the future phrased as if it were a definitive fact of what will happen next.
So I'm hoping this post will help some people in understanding what the results DO NOT MEAN:
That residents will now have to foot a 393 million dollar bill through increase in taxes
That the concept of upgrading facilities is now abandoned and that there will be no change
That the funds borrowed would have been a general pool of money useable for whatever projects the city felt like.
That there is no longer a possibility of borrowing money from the government for facility upgrades
That any other solution for facility upgrades are guaranteed to increase the residents cost compared to the proposed plans.
I'm open to responding to comments about these points, but I won't spend time on knee jerk reactions that aren't based in reality or don't have a basic understanding of how economics and urban planning work.
