Congratulations to Gunther (and u/IntroductionClear723), you are our Halloween Maine Coon of the Month for October 2026!

u/IntroductionClear723 says

''Gunther is ready for Halloween ! Gunther is a 6 month old and 6kg (13lbs) Black Smoke. He is our first MC and we definitely got the real deal : Vocal, loves playing with water, already plays fetch and will follow you anywhere at any time if the day.''

Such an absolutely gorgeous, and on theme, picture of a gorgeous kitty!! Thanks again to everyone who took part and do keep an eye out for a post about next month's theme!~ (apologies for getting this up a few days late too!)

If you're wondering if your cat is a MC, this is the place to ask!

In general, this subreddit operates under the assumption that having no papers means your cat is not a Maine Coon. However, what we can tell you is whether your cat does indeed exhibit any physical characteristics that look like those of a Maine Coon.

Picking up this handsome gent in a few weeks. He’ll be my first cat and I would love any advice, recommended brands, habits, do’s & don’ts, gadgets, gizmos, anything I can do to give him a wonderful life!

At 2 years old Arthur hasn't plopped down like this before until now. He has an excellent view of the food across from him on the counter. As soon as I leave he will continue what he started which is knocking anything of remote interest to him on the floor for further inspection..

Anyone else have a massive fluff ball? She's about 6 months and her fur is 2-3x thicker than our other mainecoon. So cute!

He was just trying to wait for his feathered friends to play but the wind wasn't being fair. 😀 Yes, he really is that big at 2 1/2 yrs old... 23+ pounds and probably more that 4' long.

😂 Nobody told me that owning a Maine Coon meant signing over all rights to my own bed!

Apparently, I’m not the owner… I’m just the staff. 🤦‍♀️🐈
This 20-pound floof has decided that I am her personal trampoline, her heated mattress, AND her midnight blanket fort. She will literally dig her way under the blankets like she’s breaking into a top-secret government facility. 😂

And if that’s not enough, she apparently believes my chest is the perfect place to park 20 pounds of pure feline audacity at 3 AM. 💀

Yes, she’s adorable. Yes, I love her. But there’s nothing quite like waking up gasping for air because your cat decided you were a piece of furniture. 🤣

Maine Coon owners, please tell me this is normal and that I’m not the only one being held hostage by a furry, four-legged landlord. 😂🐾

My MC retaliates against me if I don’t feed her wet food as soon as I wake up!!

Does anyone else have this issue?? As soon as I wake up if I do anything else besides feed her, like lay under the covers and play on my phone, or sit on the couch and drink my coffee, my MC retaliates against me by either peeing in the dogs bowl, or peeing on their bed. I am so over it and I don’t know how to stop it besides bowing to her!!

She free eats dry food and it’s never empty, always available.

Post image
17 Upvotes

I got my MC Kitten just over 1 week ago he was 9 weeks 1.3kg when I got him, he’s now 1.5kg and visibly a lot bigger, hair wise and length, head size etc but just wondering is it normal for them to grow this fast? Did yours grow fast like this and how big should I expect him over the next few months!?

Question how often do you cut your cat's nails

Post image
52 Upvotes

I apologize if it's a dumb question, this is my first time having a kitten of my own

Suki is almost 6 months now and got her nails trimmed last month for the first time since I got her and she did fantastic!
She has multiple scratching posts and a cat tree that she uses a lot but her nails are needle sharp again so I'm wondering how often I should trim her nails ?

Anyone else experience their less than one year old nearly hitting 20 pounds? I weighed this big boi this morning and his official weight was 19.2 pounds and he’s only 8 months old.

Anyone else have babies get that big, this young?

Question need advice!!

hello all! I recently put down a deposit for a maine coon kitten. he would be coming home in mid november, when he is about 14 weeks old. i have 3 cats at home already, a 4 year old female, a 4 year old male, and an 11 month old female. they are all DSH. i have been working from home, with some time in the office. but i recently found out that i will need to be in the office much more than i have been (every weekday with some exceptions). i also have an hour commute each way. i am starting to get worried that i will be gone for way too long and that this kitten will not be getting enough attention. all my other cats have been raised by me since they were kittens. i know how to set him up, i have an auto feeder and room available for him, and was planning to get a large litter box. i have plenty of toys and cat furniture i will set up for him. i have done my research and plan to have a playtime and brushing routine with him from day 1. my question is, will he be okay being alone that long? i will be home every evening and all weekend to spend time with him. i just want to make sure he is well socialized and happy. of course eventually he will be able to play with my other cats as well, after they have all been introduced properly. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Sometimes I wish there was a Mainecoon family tree so I could see who is related to my kitten when I look at your pictures. Anyone else feel this way? Marge the cat just turned a year old

Escape artist

Our mainecoon is hell bent on getting run over. He escapes at every chance, runs away from us and into the busy street. I have an AirTag collar on him which has helped many times. What ideas do you have? Would a catio help? Walks in a stroller or train on leash? A tether to his harness for some time outside?

Anyone else's MC a little booger factory? 😂 NSFW

Got this beautiful kitty about a month ago and he has been struggling with nose boogies and the occasional eye crusties.. All tests at the vet came back negative, so we are just trying to figure out where this might be coming from.. sometimes he sneezes like x10 in a row to get these huge human like boogies out! lol. He usually sounds a lot better after too. Not everyday is like this. - Looking for anecdotal advice and maybe how you went about this!!

Thank you so much in advance, this is our first MC & we just want him to live the best life possible.
