I think we need to use the word Earth more. It has a widely different connotation than using any other term to describe where we are from.

It applies in these 'academic' spaces places were the best and brightest of countries get together.
it doesn't work in the real world, because everywhere has awful people with awful beliefs.

u/Real_Tea_Lover 18h ago
why
1
u/Vemyx 14h ago
Life's long and boring. If you don't care about humanity, then drama is the next best thing without putting in effort. people will always see each other differently.
1
u/Real_Tea_Lover 13h ago
that can be changed. im sure people in the old days thought the same thing about public executions, for instance: "people will always want to see other people die"

Why not?

Bigots will always ruin things for those willing to live peacefully. And bigots came in all cultures, religions, and colors.
There would need to be years of tolerance training before being let into New Earth.
4
u/blueViolet26 17h ago
Are people really born that way or have them made to be that way by propaganda?
4
u/weliveinavideogame 16h ago
Babies hug and love eachother without a thought about color or tribal lines.
2
u/blueViolet26 16h ago
Yes, so why do we stop being living like babies?
2
u/EvolutionInProgress 16h ago
Because as we get older, we start grazing opinions and preferences that differ from those of others.
This results in everything from local crime to global wars.
0
u/weliveinavideogame 16h ago
Greed & confusion about what & who we truly are. We must remember we are one.
0
u/blueViolet26 16h ago
Yes. We are all connected. But I think that is part of the human evolution we are lacking.
0
u/XeNoGeaR52 16h ago
mostly because of education. Our surroundings are teaching us to behave like we do our entire life, then we influence our own children to do the same.
It's extremely hard to break that cycle6
3
u/DontSpahettMe 17h ago
The video is of the real world. The UN exists, globalism is vast and successful.
1
u/Carra144 14h ago edited 14h ago
No. A lot of nationalist and religious narratives rely on making someone the enemy. There's a lot of countries whose governments have sworn to irradiate others (Iran).
Most religions/sects have it built that exclusively their followers go to 'heaven', and followers of every other faith, or even sect of the same faith, are damned and go to hell. Then most have a second obligation to proselytise, ostensibly to save others, but that mostly comes out as harassing and scaring them into joining your group.
Also, whilst I'm not personally LGBTQ, I have a lot of friends who are, and a lot of governments and peoples worldwide don't just want to deny them rights, but they want to imprison or execute them as well. It's hard to say that we're all one people if they want to kill my friends for existing.

Some cultures don't even want to handshake women, to be welcomed by female employees, see their hair or any skin at all, in countries that are deemed progressive. This is one simple example among many many real life examples
Surely we can be chill with them and have women in our culture feel fine with that
There's clearly not a culture conflict here that is just deemed to create friction between the 2. This is the story of humanity, and will always be, only toxic positivity can try to erase that, but this doesn't work at a certain quantity etc, and this has nothing to do with specific countries, cultures, skin color whatever, that's just how humans work and always will (sadly). We have survival natural instincts. We can overcome them to an extent but in survival moments they always come back
What they describe works in intellectual spaces, in small communities and such, when you bring massive amount of people (of any culture etc) to another country, conflicts naturally arise because of our differences. Culture and education is not some secondary thought you can just take out of people, this is who we are, and sometimes it just doesn't work out together, which is fine, 8 billion of humans don't have to all get along. This is unrealistic and this ideology causes a lot of avoidable harm
I'd love to hear how you combine progressive LGBT friendly cultures with anti LGBT religious cultures. Surely this isn't bound to create conflict already on paper. Love everyone, even those who hate you/your beliefs is clearly not putting everyone up for frustration and conflict. "Love everyone with no border" is a cognitive dissonance that harms a lot of people and is bound to fail from the start. There are many many many factors that have always caused conflict at any time of human history and always will. We're not sudden higher moral beings that can just erase human behavior just like that. We push for more kindness, understanding and listening, which is awesome, but it can only go so far, especially with big amount of people
Not every single person/culture can get along with others and this is actually part of our strength, we have so many REAL and deep cultural differences that are so strong and important to us that we're not all clones living in geographical areas with no soul and history, so some of them clash or don't understand each other

I have... and what I've noticed is that cultures should stay the fuck away from mine. I love some other cultures... deeply fascinated by their traditions and their history. But I also recognize that it exists. It only exists because of preservation
In order to preserve my culture is to keep those cultures out of mine. Especially dirty nasty cultures.
12
u/TheWatersOfMars 18h ago
Am I just jaded if I think it's a lovely sentiment, but also more than a bit trite? Yes, we're all one people living on one planet wanting to live in peace. The problem is how we can actually act as one people, how we actually share the planet and its resources, how we actually arrive at peace. Two peoples who deeply believe in peace and common humanity can nevertheless end up going to war.
Different people, different countries, different classes all have material goods and ideological interests they're competing over. The way we solve that isn't just by realizing that random strangers around the world aren't your mortal enemies (no duh), it's by figuring out practical, structural ways to resolve disputes and universal guidelines of fair conduct. We need laws, institutions, and enforcement mechanisms, not platitudes.

-6
u/NaiveAbroad69 16h ago
Peace and love to all is literally what every religion’s masters preach.
It might not be easy, but it’s people and their judgement of one-another that is destroying that exact concept and idea.Luckily, there’s a plan for that…

u/Cosmoaquanaut 16h ago edited 15h ago
Preaching and doing are unfortunately 2 big different things and I disagree that this is what every priest, chief, master, head of, etc preaches. Otherwise, there would not be people killing each other.

1
u/Cloudhead_Denny 13h ago
The first step in healing cultural divisions, is repeating messages like these and increasing their intensity. If it made money to do so, we'd have a proper movement on our hands.
Forming a healthy, non-toxic, consensus reality takes equal an opposite work/aggression, to whoever the hell is in charge of the media machine now.
The only thing I know for certain is that "the worst of us" are a minority, and yet they are in control right now.

It’s beautiful how everybody in the comments is proving OP’s point.
Some people may be a bit more privileged than others, but emotionally, everybody is 100% identical in essence.
We’re born from a mother, need love, food, shelter, hope and dreams.
These things have all been turned into commodities over the past 3-400 years or so.
Before that, there was feudalism, but since the internet arrived, the entire planet is moving and connecting at an incredible pace.
Human development is going through a new revolution unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Sure that comes with growth pains, but the statistics don’t lie, historically speaking, we’ve never had it better than today, and the current generation finally seems to realize how important it is to band together and get our stewardship of Mother Earth back into the right hands.
God willing,
Inshallah,
Deo Volente

With the knowledge that everything third-worlders do and say is ultimately to convince us to let them all into our countries (or to send them money), it's hard to take this seriously.

u/anirudhsky 17h ago
Stop sending us money. We don't want it. But stop sending the missiles and your army too! That would be superb.

"My people are better than you and that's why I need access to your country. No, I obviously can't make my homeland better but I can take your homeland, which is better for reasons I'd prefer not to discuss."
This is a shocking amount of our immigration discourse.

The core problem is that some cultures by culture and history think they are superior to other cultures. That’s the problem.

u/NaiveAbroad69 16h ago
Isn’t that just believing your own culture is superior because you believe the prejudices of your own roots..?

Cultures that still practice human sacrifices, slavery or child marriages to this day, for example, most likely are inferior to cultures that have outgrown such practices.

u/r3turn_null 15h ago
Are you ignorant or disingenuous?
1
u/DontSpahettMe 15h ago
Neither, I genuinely want you to tell me.
-1
u/r3turn_null 15h ago
You must be one. Otherwise, why would you need me to tell you? I'll give you a list of some morally inferior cultures, if you tell me which describes you. a) unaware of inferior cultures, b) believe all cultures must be equal, or c) don't want to recognize differences, believe that recognizing these differences are "wrong think"
1
u/DontSpahettMe 14h ago
I don't need you to. I want you to.
And I don't think I fit into any of those categories entirely. I think all cultures have strengths and weaknesses, but wasn't aware that there was some aggregate overall index of quality that made one entirely worse or better.
To me it sounds like you're afraid to actually say which cultures are superior.
1
u/r3turn_null 13h ago
Here's some that are less related to government influence. For anyone else reading this, see my first response below this one.
• Female Genital Mutilation: Practiced in parts of Africa, the Middle East, and Asia as a rite of passage or prerequisite for marriage.
• Honor Killings: Perpetrated in certain family- or honor-based structures where relatives murder a member (usually female) perceived to have brought shame on the family.
• Child Marriage & Forced Marriage: Traditional expectations in various global communities that strip young girls and boys of bodily autonomy.
• Brutal Initiations or Rituals: Practices such as scarification, body piercing rituals, or combat festivals (e.g., Bolivia's Tinku or Papua New Guinea scarification rites) that inflict pain and injury.
• Animal Cruelty Traditions: Cultural or tourist-linked spectacles like bullfighting or running of the bulls in Spain, bear baiting, or cockfighting.
1
u/DontSpahettMe 13h ago
Dodging the question.
1
u/r3turn_null 13h ago
Wrong again. Are you dodging reading, or comprehension?
edit: or are you trying to demand a list of the "better" cultures? Hint: it's the ones that dont do the above. Its a longer list.
-5
u/lightsmakemesneeze 18h ago
Not true, the core problem is we are naturally born to be attracted to our own people. We have affinity for our own race. No amount of political brainwashing will override that. Borders exist because we made them…
3
u/Salamimann 17h ago
Borders evolved and they changed a lot in different parts of the world. It's about resources and everyonenfears others will take it so they try to take it first. My main divider is fear. Not all people are as likeable as they ppl in the video. Nice for them to smile in the camera. But when i walk the street i don't see friendly faces. So im just cautious. I can't afford to trust the wrong person
0
u/lightsmakemesneeze 15h ago
That is another major player but intodays world the agenda to homogenize the world is to take away cultures, and replace them with government.
3
u/DontSpahettMe 17h ago
That just isn't true. Racism isn't natural, tribalism can be but that's something we're trying to grow out of as a planet. Your view isn't the "natural" view and all other opposing views aren't just brainwashing.
-3
u/lightsmakemesneeze 16h ago
I believe the entire planet except for america is not trying to grow out of that lol. People are very proud to be where they are from and what race they are and the preservation of their culture. You want melting pot, youll lose all culture, the only culture youll have left will be politics.
1
u/DontSpahettMe 16h ago
I was talking about the hatred of other tribes/races. I'm not against pride and patriotism.
3
u/blueViolet26 17h ago
You are confusing our tribalistic tendencies with our nature. We have overcome some of, if not most, of your tendencies. Why can’t we start seeing humanity as part of us?

We can celebrate our differences by meeting together once in a while, e.g. the summer/winter olympics, UN General Assembly, football worldcup, international arts exhibitions, etc.
We don't have to all stay together with all our distinct cultures and differences.
