GateWatch.ai:The price chart is synthetic and it invents companies for tickers that don’t exist
I spent some time testing the site and its API.
1. The MVIS price chart is made up
The site loads its data from https://www.gatewatch.ai/api/report/MVIS. You can open it in your browser and check for yourself.
- There are no dates in the data at all. The points are just labeled 0, 1, 2… and the Y-axis shows “$1” four times.
- Every time series ends with a jump to the current price ($1.16):
- 1D goes from 1.07 to 1.16 in the last “hour” (+8%).
- 1Y goes from 1.46 to 1.16 in the last “week” (−20%).
- AAPL has the same pattern: from 500.59 to 339.50 in one “week”.
- The series contradict each other. For the same recent weeks, the 1Y series says ~$1.44–1.52, the 6M series says ~$1.02–1.04, and the 1M series says ~$1.16–1.19.
- They don’t match reality
| Actual MVIS | GateWatch | |
|---|---|---|
| Aug 10–12 (post split) | $3.72–4.90 | 6M: ~$1.00–1.07 |
| 52-week range (split-adj.) | $1.08–18.98 | $1.00–1.52 |
| Last month | Down from ~$1.6 to $1.16 | Up from $1.08 to $1.19 |
Only the current price appears to be live.

2. It invents companies for fake tickers
I typed QQQQX, which doesn’t exist. GateWatch returned:
- “QQQQX Holdings”, trading at $291.75
- a full price chart
- two news items, one supposedly from “MarketWatch”
The only hint is a small “Demo data” badge. On MVIS that badge doesn’t appear, and the API labels the price as “live”, even though the chart history is just as synthetic. The footer does admit “some data shown may be simulated”.
3. The “AI sentiment” is a word list, and it doesn’t work
- The site itself says it uses a “weighted lexicon”. The score is just bullish % minus bearish %, and it changed from −7 to −6 between two identical requests.
- Some of the classifications:
- The Overland AI selection (Benzinga): Bearish. The same news via Yahoo: Neutral.
- “Lidar Stocks Enter Bear Market”: Bullish.
- Two Stocktwits users insulting each other: Bullish.
- A post consisting only of “$MVIS”: Bearish.
- 13 of the 60 displayed posts are WhatsApp pump bots (“$2K to $500K in 3 months”). The #1 “top author”, with a quality score of 87 (“Excellent”), is one of them. The dashboard still shows SPAM 0%.
- “Live Reddit sentiment” is listed on their own page as “coming soon”, yet 228 of the 277 “posts” are Reddit, mostly daily threads.
4. What GateWatch actually is
GateWatch is “a product by RetailVolts”, a “retail investor activation agency”. Full access is only for companies working with them.
A RetailVolts contract with Fusemachines (FUSE) is public in SEC filings. It shows the model:
- payment of 30,000 shares per monthly block
- the goal includes “trading volume”
- services include running the company subreddit, posting “due diligence reports”, and doing AMAs
- no clause requiring posts to be labeled as paid
- GateWatch alerts the client to “coordinated negative activity”

To be clear: I found no filing showing that MicroVision has an agreement with RetailVolts. If shares were issued for something like this, it should show up in the Q3 10-Q (results Oct 28). Worth checking.
