Question Whisperer in darkness question
I understand and can infer most of it, but there’s still one thing I can’t find an answer to. In the end, Akeley became the brain inside the jar. I don’t quite grasp how Wilmarth was deceived by the creatures.
My question concerns what exactly the Akeley sitting in the chair was. If it was merely his hands and face arranged to deceive Wilmarth, was Akeley speaking from inside the device? But if so, how did Wilmarth fail to notice that the voice coming from the other jar was the same as Akeley’s (given that the voices of those in the jars always remain the same)? And if it wasn’t Akeley’s own hands and face, was it one of the creatures in disguise? Furthermore, I don’t understand how that "thing" could have moved—it is described as pointing and making gestures with the heads—if it were just a ruse involving Akeley’s body parts.
