Mods, could we update rule 7?

This sub is becoming predominantly people sharing their music. Yes, they're obeying the rule of it being a screen capture, but outside of it being a screen cap of Logic, there really is nothing sub-specific about these posts: They could be anywhere.

Most of the time people bait them with a title to get engagement, plug other links etc. It just doesn't feel like the spirit of the sub, to me.

Question Query regarding storing sound library on Samsung T7 SSD

I have a Samsung T7 SSD. And I want to know -

  1. Do I really need to reduce Mac security to make the SSD work as it should? (due to some extension restrictions on Mac, if I understood correctly)
  2. I will use the SSD mainly for storing sound libraries and Time Machine. So, will it be a good idea if I format the SSD in "APFS (Encrypted)"?
  3. Or should I just format it in APFS and then add the password using Samsung Magician software?

Troubleshooting This window is coming up everytime I open Logic Pro

Logic Pro is asking to be rated every single time I open it and it's pretty annoying. Is there any way I can disable this?

I haven't found any option so far to do so.

Question Why don't the compatibility packs get installed if I select "Get All"?

I downloaded the stock Logic Pro Sound Library using the “Get All” option. However, I noticed that Logic didn’t install the Compatibility Packs automatically.

Why is that? Are the sounds included in the Compatibility Packs already available in the other sound packs, or do they contain additional sounds that I would need to download separately?

Glitchy audio input

I seem to have started having a random glitch that makes all my input audio sound glitchy. It doesn't matter which input or output devices are selected; it sounds the same. I provided a video showing what's been happening. I am on an M5 MacBook Pro running macOS 27.0.1. I've tried with a Scarlett 4i4, AirPods, and even the built-in MacBook microphone.

Anyone Remember Session DATs?

We used to run DATs continuously in recording sessions to capture magic moments that happen while the multitrack isn't recording. When DATs went away, did that practice go away too, or is anyone just running a spare computer or something like that to capture the full session?

Any change regarding core usage with the improved CPU scheduler in Mac OS27 Golden Gate?

Since MacOS27 comes with improvements of the CPU scheduler (which decides which tasks to process on which CPU core) I wonder if this has any impact regarding the usage of efficiency/performance cores in Logic Pro?

Right now (as it is well known) we still have the following CPU bottlenecks in Logic Pro:

- M1-M4 (Pro)/M5 base: No use of efficiency cores (see James Zhan Videos on YouTube).

- M5 Pro: Only half of performance cores are used. I bought this one and can't believe I can only use 12 of the 18 cores I have bought with Logic.

Does the improved CPU scheduler in MacOS27 Golden Gate have any effect on that?

If anybody has already made the switch to MacOS27, I would appreciate if you could check that out!

Tutorial Rough instrumental demo inspired by Adela's "Ain't in LA" (Logic Pro)

Hey guys, I've been messing around in Logic and put together this rough instrumental after getting hooked on Adela's "Ain't in LA". It's nowhere near finished and there are no vocals yet, I just wanted to get the vibe down first. If you've got a minute to listen, I'd love to know what you think and if you're a writer u can make some lyrics that will fit the vibe of the song.

Just open-sourced RUSE, a Rust-based plugin framework with code-less composition capabilities.

ETA - Seeing is believing: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLZya0QGWPcs0

Sorry if not allowed, I'm looking for collaborators not customers. I think its way past due time to propose an alternative to the JUCE/PACE/iLok model. Anyway its all in the readme - free to contribute, fork, commercialize, whatever you want within the MIT licensing (permissive, including commercial works) framework. See it all here: https://github.com/Symbia-Labs/ruse

Musicians. Describe the effect you hear in your head, and your personal agent like Claude or ChatGPT turns it into a plugin you can load in Logic or any other Audio Unit or CLAP host, with no code to write.

Sound designers. Build the exact processor a sound needs from tested DSP blocks, on anything from mono to 64 channels for surround and immersive work.

Commercial plugin developers. Ship closed-source CLAP and Audio Unit plugins in memory-safe Rust with no licence fees, and have every build validated automatically, including Apple's auval.

Where I really need help:

  1. testing and feedback
  2. DSP block suggestions (bare minimum included to start)
  3. Community contributions, word of mouth, reviews, other sharing (if you mean it)

Thank you so much!

Question Feedback for a new Plugin

I recently released a generative instrument you can use inside Logic Pro and locally on your Mac.

You can see and here it there: www.youtube.com/@einaux

You can find it here: www.einaux.com

It lives in your session, listens to your tracks and can generate all kind of reactions to what is already there. You can also use it to get inspiration and start from scratch. But this is not a song generator, it's something you haven't seen yet. I made this thing because it wasn't there and I did not like suno&co.

I invite anyone interested in this kind of workflow to test it, tell me, grill me, ask me. I'm here to listen. Thanks!

Troubleshooting Cmd + R key command not working

Hi, for some reason, when I start a new project, CMD + R doesn't work as it should.

I have to use old tracks for it to work.

When I select notes and press CMD + R, it should copy the notes to the next bar.

Watch my video and see what happens. I even show you an old project and demonstrate how this key command should work.

The key commands are the same. I obviously exported the ones from the old project and imported them into the new one; same issue.

Please help!

Troubleshooting Does anybody know why my Logic did this to my project?

I unplugged my headphones while the track was playing and everything in the mixer on the left had a caution symbol, and now everything is all out of sync and stretched. I'm fairly new to Logic so any help would be nice

Question How can I recreate this synth?

Hi, I pick a similar saw and try with some plugins (phat, step) but I couldn't. To me it sounds like gated saw chord but then there are some tonal shifts which is not purely gated stuff. I don't know.

How can I recreate it in Logic Pro using only stock. Could you please break it down to me? The sound is this and that, then there is echo whatever, then there is this and that

Tutorial is there any way to disable "The last selected audio interface is not available."??

every time i put my headphones on. or take them off. or open my earbuds. or close them. or take a call. or do anything. or do nothing.

i see the little logic icon. two bounces, then nothing for a minute. i falsely believe i am safe. but then, 60 seconds later, right on cue,, there it is again.

here's a photo of it showing up on top of a screenshot i took in order to describe this scourge,, this plague,,,, see how it mocks my futility

if it would just switch, and not tell me, that would be fine. i know how to change the audio input.

i'd rather it just stay on the speakers forever and force me to manually change inputs, then send me this terrible omen 5 times a day.

any ideas would b awesome thx!

Production My NFL Theme for TV Broadcast: Original Orchestral Score in Logic Pro

My original orchestral NFL-style theme for TV broadcast, written in Logic Pro, and leaning HARD into the sound and compositional language of modern sports music.

I’ve included some notes throughout on the orchestration and production. There’s also an alternate broadcast edit at the end, with announcers over the intro fanfare and some different orchestration, followed by a short walkthrough.

It was put together very quickly initially, so I’d be interested to hear what other Logic users think. As with some of my other recent posts, I’m building up my composition chops again after many years on the other side of the recording booth. Thanks for listening!

Production Is there any really good third party step sequencer that’s better than stock Logic?

I like how Drum Machine Designer interacts with Logic’s step sequencer but I feel like the sequencer is limited compared to what comes with some other DAWs. Is there any good third party plugin you can recommend? I used to use Geist a lot but Fxpansion closed shop and it doesn’t work anymore with my newer computer. I want one that’s flexible for different rhythms, probability, repeats, pitch change etc. Lots of per-step parameters.

I wrote out my entire punk/alt-rock mixing chain using only Logic stock plugins

Been mixing punk and alternative rock in Logic for a few years, and the thing that always frustrated me is how much advice assumes you've bought FabFilter or Waves. There's little written for people who want to stay on stock plugins, and what exists is generic.

So I wrote mine down. Logic only, no third-party anything.

The part people seem to find most useful is the drum compression, because it's per-piece rather than "put a compressor on the drum bus":

  • Kick: Studio VCA or Studio FET
  • Snare: Vintage FET
  • Snare sample (reinforcement): Vintage VCA
  • Toms and overheads: Platinum Digital
  • Hi-hat: Vintage Opto

Platinum Digital on overheads is the one that surprises people. It's transparent enough that you're shaping rather than coloring, and the overheads are usually the most honest picture of the kit you have.

Other things in there that are maybe less obvious:

  • Why the kick and bass should never hit a reverb bus. They ground the low end, and reverb makes the whole mix float.
  • Why your left and right rhythm guitars should NOT have identical EQ curves. Hats sit on one side, so you darken the opposite guitar to avoid the fight and get a wider image.
  • The two-stage vocal chain (Studio FET into Vintage Opto) with reduction targets for each stage.
  • Auto gain off on every compressor, no exceptions.

I also put in a master bus chain and a limiter config, but honestly the mix should be right before it gets there.

I created a whole guide on this topic. It's $19, which is less than an hour of studio time. Not going to pretend it's for everyone: it's punk and alt-rock specific, it assumes you can already place a plugin, and it's a guide rather than a template file you drag in, which is deliberate.

Happy to answer anything about the settings in the comments, whether or not you're interested in buying it. But if you are, send a dm and I'll give you the link

- Max

Question I’m lost on how to make beat feel full

So I’ve been producing for a few months now and I can get a basic a few beats and basic drums, but I haven’t really found out how to make it feel like a full production. I usually be able to make like a simple melody with no top line I will add like a simple, high hat and simple drums, but I don’t know how to take that next step. I’m looking into basic music theory right now so I’m just trying to get as much information as I can
