Need Design Advise Fast flickering Shop Lights
Title: LED Shop Lights Flickering Even After Switching Brands — Could It Be a Power Issue?
I have a basement workspace where I use several LED shop lights for recording videos. Originally, I was using 5,500-lumen Hyper Tough lights from Walmart, but I noticed they had a very rapid, subtle flicker.
Thinking it was just an issue with the cheaper Walmart lights, I replaced them with higher-quality 10,000-lumen, 4-foot LED shop lights from Home Depot. Unfortunately, I’m still experiencing the exact same flickering.
The flicker is extremely fast and almost impossible to notice unless you’re looking for it. The lights aren’t visibly turning on and off. Instead, the brightness seems to fluctuate very rapidly, almost like a subtle shimmering effect. It’s especially noticeable when I’m staring at something in the room rather than directly at the lights.
Since I’ve experienced the same issue with two different brands, I’m starting to suspect it has something to do with the electrical supply rather than the lights themselves.
Both lights are powered through power strips connected to an outlet in my basement. Unfortunately, I don’t have many convenient alternatives for powering them in this location.
I’ve considered purchasing an online double-conversion UPS to provide a continuous, regulated AC output, but I’d prefer not to spend hundreds of dollars if there’s a simpler solution.
Has anyone experienced something similar with LED shop lights? Could this be caused by voltage fluctuations, the power strips, or something else? Are there any affordable ways to provide cleaner, more stable power without modifying the electrical wiring?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
.

Designer Thoughts The "big lights" on my new apartment
So I apologize if this is something that has already been discussed but I moved in to a new apartment and it has these ceiling lights that I absolutely despise.
They're overly bright with no dimming options and it doesnt even seem like I can switch out the light bulb. My old place had them too but I just never used them and used lamps instead.
My question is : Has anyone else had this issue? I have some ideas about covering it with something to dull the light or covering it with a coloured plastic to alter it.
Anyways, I appreciate any advice or input! Thank you in advance

Designer Thoughts Experience with/Feedback on vendors Beverly Hills Lighting and/or BuyRite Electric for Nora
Any reviews or feedback on the following vendors?
BuyRite Electric (buyriteelectric dot com)
Beverly Hills Lighting (beverlyhillslighting dot com) - when I signed up for their newsletter looking for a discount code the reply I got was from 5 Star Electric Wholesale, so not exactly sure what's going on there.
I ordered 4 closet rated DMF lights and a Nora surface mount from BuyRite. They removed the Nora from the order with no explanation, so don't know if it is just being shipped separately or if I need to order it elsewhere. I want to order 4 Nora M4s, I found them listed on Amazon from seller Beverly Hills Lighting, then googled and found their website. Can't tell if they are legit or too good to be true prices.
Any preferred/trusted vendors for Nora with competitive prices? Unfortunately I am currently on a bit of a budget.
Thanks!

Replacement Pot Light not sealed? Bad dust or ?
Here's a vid of what I see all the time. We didn't install these. I can't fix, who to fix & what should I do, replace or get that box installed in attic. (I doubt it has one now) Idea of cost to just replace with new sealed lights? Labour included. Brutal dust in bdrm with 3 of these.

Find Me This Fixture Looking for a floodlight for security purposes
So my wonderful neighbor has now started to stand out in front of the house in his driveway with his drug dealer friend. I’ve asked them nicely to go elsewhere at night and it has not worked. I was thinking of replacing the light over my garage with something significantly brighter. I want something borderline offensively bright. I figured that if I completely illuminate the area, it would discourage them from hanging out. It has to be a motion detector light with a dust to Dawn feature. I’d also like it to be one where it’s low power until motion is detected, and it kicks on high. I’d even be open to one that has an app where I could turn it on full power when they’re just hanging out there. Curious to hear your thoughts and recommendations.

Need Design Advise Help needed: looking for a touch sensitive nightstand lamp
Hello,
I'm looking for a lamp which is suprisingly uneasy to find. A few things to keep in mind:
- Touch sensitive
- Warm light
- ~3 brightness options
- I need to blindly be able to lightly smash/hit it for it to go on without falling. So a big stable surface would be nice.
- Somewhat cozy design
- No direct light to the sides
Hope you guys can help! <3

LED Drivers Vibration sound, 7w hue lightbulb in 4w self ballast socket
I've been hearing a vibration buzzing sound from one of my wall mounted plug in lamps. It buzzes even without a lightbulb but stops when I remove the plug.
I removed it and found the backplate for mounting was very loose. I tested the lamp by plugging it in while laying it on the counter, no more sound. I then mounted it back into the tightened backplate, no more sound.
My theory is the backplate was vibrating when the lamp was energized but I'm not sure what could have caused the vibration in the first place. It's a simple lamp with a cord and a plug. No switch, no LED driver
I did see on the socket though that it says max 40w type G lamp, or use maximum 4W self ballasted LED lamp or use lamp adapter 120V 60Hz AC.
I only ever noticed the 40w and not the 4W self ballasted part. I'm using a 7W Phillips Hue bulb.
Is this dangerous? I can't find any other hue bulbs 4w and below that will fit.
The buzzing/vibration sound happened previously even without a bulb. It only stopped when not in contact with the loose metal plate.

Product Review Flickering Lights Ask
I am bothered by flickering lights... like LED holiday string lights, many car tail lights, and others. I'm working with researchers to change the landscape.
Do you know of any real-world examples where fixing a light flicker problem made a tangible impact?
Maybe you know about an office, store, vehicle, or home (your home?!) where there was a problem with lighting flicker that was fixed by installing flicker-free lighting? Maybe it helped with fewer migraines, decreased brain strain, better focus, more sales, happier customers, safer work environment, or just a calmer space... whatever story, I need to hear it!
Why this matters:
The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is preparing to expand its research on lighting flicker. To secure research funding for 2027, they need real-world case studies showing how resolving flicker is beneficial. PNNL’s findings directly shape industry standards and regulations. This is the kind of research that could solve the flickering lighting problem in all our lives.
How you can help:
Share a story: Reply with any example you’ve seen where improving lighting solved a problem.
Pass it along: Connect me with anyone you know who is affected by light flicker, the more voices we gather, the stronger our case.
Thanks in advance,
Lee Sonko

Need Design Advise Elco Help- adapting 60 halo 6" cans to Elco 3"
House full of Halo 6" incandescent cans. Big metal ones with arms tying to joists...
Have undertaken extensive remodeling, 7 rooms so far, and have been using ELCO EL386ICA as housings. (and a few 2" spots here and there.) Using dim-to-warm for general room/space lighting and 3500k for spots and wall washers.
Have 3 areas flanking the new space (dinign, living, hall( directly viewable for one another. I would really like:
An ELCO adapter ring that I can mud and tape over the Halo housing aperture, giving me a 3: hole that accepts Elco trims and Elco LEDs. These are 'lipped' trims, not the 'trimless' type.
Some other mfg's adapter ring that would do the same.
Something that does it for Elco 2"
????
Something, anything... dont like adding new lights from a different mfg to the mix, but might have to....
Ideas MUCH appreciated.
TIA

Need Design Advise Initial Kitchen/Dining Room Lighting Concept
Hi everyone,
Was just starting to map this out, so bear with me. Tried to layer as much light as possible for the work areas in the kitchen. Would have preferred to use less recess lights, but not sure how to light all the space otherwise. The bottom areas are all pantry/cabinets/appliance wall, so no counter space (so kept the recessed lights back). I guess I could space the recessed lights a bit more and remove a couple.
Yellow line - undercabinet/under-shelf LED lights
Orange - recessed lights (https://dals.com/product/rgm2-cc/); tentative choice by the designer
Blue dots - flush mount, 1 over the sink, 3 over the island (https://www.lighthouseco.ca/products/evanston-directional-brass-ceiling-spot-light?variant=43725448675544); something like this, and will probably choose 3 (as opposed to the 2 seen above).
Purple - chandelier/decorative light over the dining room table
Green - sconce
Kind of left off some lighting in the top right corner, as it likely won't be use of any task (mistake?). Just decorative with a big sconce.
Let me know how far off I am! Thanks!

Need Design Advise Lighting ideas for glass shelves with exposed metal brackets?
We’re installing Iron Abode glass shelving in our basement bar and struggling to figure out the best way to add lighting.
We’ve looked into LED strips, but since the shelves are glass with exposed metal brackets, there’s really nowhere to hide the strips or wiring. I’m worried they’ll end up looking tacky and taking away from the clean look we’re going for.
Has anyone installed lighting on Iron Abode shelves or done something similar with glass shelving? We’d love a continuous, subtle lighting effect rather than individual puck lights.
We have electrical available, so hardwiring is an option. Would love to see photos or hear what solutions have worked for others!

Need Design Advise Trying to figure out light above staircase
This has been a solution for the last year or so, but the led lights recently started to flicker and they make a high pitched noise when on, so that's doubly annoying. Current setup is lightbulb connector with a USB compatibility, regular light bulb, and USB powered LED strip. I would love for some less crappy solution, however one that does not require drilling etc.
Open to suggestions.
Thank you for reading.

Find Me This Fixture Help!! From a non electrician
In need of some help finding pendant lighting for my office. I have a poorly lit waiting room, in need of more light. My reception window has three spots for mini pendants, which realistically should not be more than 5 inches wide and about 18 to 20 inches long.
The catch is that the mini pendants must be rated to 277V. My contractor and lighting vendor stopped responding to my emails, after I told them I preferred not to spend $1000+ per pendant.
Does anyone know where I can find three mini pendant rated to 277V? Hoping not to spend more than $600-$700 per light.
