REBUILD OF COMP/CON 3.0: We Are (So) Back
Hello everyone. I'm Beef, the guy responsible for all of the COMP/CON bugs. I've spent the last few years(!) working on a massive rebuild and almost complete overhaul of COMP/CON. It has just been released and is live at https://compcon.app If you're a current user you don't have to do anything, it'll migrate your v2 data into v3 formats automatically.
It has more features and fixes than I would be able to list here. I've detailed some of the bigger ones at https://github.com/orgs/massif-press/discussions/64, but it should mostly be pretty intuitive if you've spent any time with v2.
There's a lot (a lot!) more coming in the near future. I've laid out a roadmap here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/154023697/ and if you'd like to follow along, devlogs on the Patreon are, and will always be, free and public.
More details/discussion/feedback in the #comp-con channel on the Lancer Discord, where I'll be hanging around for release-day bugs.
Thanks!
Beef
P.S. v3 requires browser storage permissions -- it'll ask for this if it hasn't already been granted. iOS users must install as a PWA (save to home screen)

When the Lancer campaign is essentially a beach episode
To the locals, she's a fierce freedom fighter. To the Karrakin Barons, she's a vicious terrorist. To Union representatives, she's a massive headache.
But Hae-Jin Katoa (callsign "Orca") is, in reality, a pirate. Not a space pirate, mind you, but an old-fashioned, saltwater-sailing pirate.
She's never even left her home planet: an ocean world scattered with thousands of islands of every shape and size, none large enough to qualify as continental landmass. To the wealthy, it's a paradise of sunny beaches and crystal waters, a premier holiday destination for nobles and high-ranking corporate officials seeking a little rest and relaxation.
To Hae-Jin and the crew of the Deep Shadow, a 232-meter-long stealth submarine, it's a hunting ground. From the depths of the ocean, Orca preys on luxury yachts and privileged tourist.
Of course, a pirate needs more than a good ship and a willing crew. She needs somewhere to hide, and there's no better refuge than a population that considers you a hero. Hae-Jin has cultivated her reputation as a champion of the downtrodden, taking from the wealthy and occasionally redistributing enough of the proceeds to keep the locals in her corner.
Her mech is nautical variant of the SSC Monarch. May look different but works exactly the same, aside from missiles sometimes being called torpedoes.

Discussion Is the napoleon core just a death sentence?
It prevents all actions that are unspecified, and stabilize isn’t on that list(or in any errata). Wouldn’t you just be slowly stressing out unable to clear heat? And do non tech action buffs/debuffs still affect you like utility drone?

Art Everest-inspired Jegan in Gundam Breaker 4
I could have gotten closer to the design shown by using different arms and legs but I wanted to make a Jegan

To the Homebrewers of the community, how would you do Zoids
And have it be fair, Obviously. Frankly, I think using the system for mecha outside of the Lancer setting would be cool.
Personally the two big ones I would want to play are the Geno Breaker and Gojulas, but also in general.

Discussion What's your Favorite Weapon to Give Uncle?
Who doesn't love an extra free weapon shot per round? Sure it's at 2 Difficulty but that can be mitigated via Reliable or other methods. So I ask, what's your favorite Weapon or Build the utilized Uncle?

Lore A Poem I made for my Mech Sports Campaign
I'm about to run a series of missions set during a heavily homebrewed version of the Karrakin Trade Barony Company Games. It will take place during the events of the first Games where the House of Promise (HoP) have been allowed to send a team -- the players.
As such, I've had to do some good old fashioned world-building around the HoP and it's home world, San Simeon. I came up with a pretty stong set of House Words based on their rising sun symbology, "After Night, Always Dawn." But I needed somewhere from them to come from diegetically.
Then I thought about the name of HoP's home world. San is Spanish for saint or holy. In our real world, cities like San Francisco, San Diego and San Antonio are literally named after respective saints. There's even a Saint Simeon!
Unfortunately, Saint Simeon is pretty much known for being a hermit -- which does kinda line up with the distance San Simeon is from the rest of Karrakin space. But I felt and still feel that its quite strange for a planet thousands of years in the future and hundreds of lightyears away to be named after a niche, largely unknown Chrisitan saint. It'd be like if we named a new country today after a Babylonian king.
So I made my own Saint Simeon. One who represents HoP's fighting spirit and republican temperament. And wrote his story into an anthem/poem, one which neatly includes what would become the HoP's House words; "After Night, Always Dawn."

Art Lich alternate design.
Do you guys think this one would make a Lich visual proxy? Just add more robe and hanging tassels.
This is a Phyrexian concept art from Magic the Gathering, FYI.

Build Daredevil Nelson Second License?
Thinking about what a good second license (and core bonuses) for a Nelson would be for a thrill seeking, daredevil sort of character. I’d want to make a beeline for ramjet first but wondering what would be good to combine with it. There are some specific things I like, like Asura, but I’m thinking of a pretty melee heavy build that might not get much use from the other levels in Sherman and 3 LLs seems like a lot to grab for one system. Also, I like the idea of avoiding teleportation, like the character narratively cares more about the motion itself than just getting somewhere quickly

Discussion In your opinion what weapon type deserves the Tagetes/Viceroy treatment
Both of those frames took a weapon type and gave them a radically different play style and build considerations in a very interesting way so I was wondering what other types should get that treatment.
Personally I'd love to see nexus weapons to get some love especially since they don't really get anything. I would probably make it so all the nexus weapons equipped onto the frame can be detached as a drone similar to how the legion and ghast nexus and just a flat 1 accuracy. Maybe as a core power it lets you get a free attack with one of your other nexuses after successfully landing a crit (with stacking difficulty so it can't be chained on forever).
(Also for this I'd consider aux, main, and heavy/superheavy melee weapons as different weapon types as they have a unique talent for each of them)

Game Master Which NPCS to use in a King of the Hill sitrep?
I want to do a "King of the Hill" sitrep from the Enhanced Combat 3rd party book. Basically, the enemy and ally forces start on opposite sides of the board and try to control a center objective zone. My party is LL0 with 4 pilots.
My player comp looks like this.
Void Javelin-Sniper Everest with AMR, Dual Missile Racks, and Thermal Rifle
Doodlebug- CQC Everest with HCB, AR, and Shotgun.
Comfortable Struggle- Melee Everest with HCB, Tactical Melee Weapon, and Dual Pistols
Lifehack- Chomolungma with AR/Light Nexus and Dual Missile Racks.
I was thinking of having 5 NPCs to start out and then bringing in some reinforcements. This will be their 3rd sitrep in the mission and I was thinking their last fight till they hit LL1. I haven't put them up against an Elite or Veteran yet because they are completely new to the system. What NPCs/ templates should I bring to challenge them?

Question Want to understand lore better
I have started to dig deep into Lancer lore through the setting guide (I am new). But I get confused on several occasions about how Union is politically organised, and how the division between core and diasporan worlds work on a map.
I have a wish to create a story in this world, and the first step to that is to understand it better, which is a little confusing.
Are there any channels or guides you could recommend which could make it a little easier.
(English isn't my first language so sorry for any mistakes)

Question What is the best way to Annihilation Nexus in the most incorrect way possible?
Annihilation nexus. Big ol' burst 2 attack that you can repeat as a protocol at the start of your turn. The intention is 100% that you send it through your drones so that you aren't sitting your butt deep in enemy lines... but what if you wanted to? How could you best optimize a build to run into bad guys and blow up everything around you?
So far, my best attempt is Hydra 3/Ghengis 2/Manticore 1 and using the Worldkiller alt frame because it is designed to be brawling up close with enemies. Summon can be used on Drones to yoink enemies onto them (though that probably qualifies as using the Nexus properly.) but the primary goal is to get in close and start exploding.
Any thoughts on alternatives?

Discussion Mech Frame Build and Discussion #13: Orchis
The Orchis is a kind of a wierd mech, but it does have one of the coolest artworks, though it is relatively simple, its whole deal is inflicting knockback and making enemies collide into obstructions or other enemies. When it does this it gets to throw its captain america shield and turn off reactions for that character, this just happens, no range lol. Hit an enemy across a map and knock em into a wall and you just ricochet you shield off 20 objects to hit them. The traits are also alright, you move alongside allies up to SPEED+1, which is really god for letting you continuously protect your allies, and those allies are immune to Reliable Damage.
Perfect Parry is alright but it really just gives you immunity to reliable, but idk how common reliable is so it might not be that good, Ive personally only seen it like on two enemies in our campaign but I had 2 armor lol so it did nothing to me. And Reliable seems like all that trait's good for, I cant think of a single attack that has an effect when you miss other than things with the reliable tag. I would have preferred some other defensive trait for your adjacent allies because Mag Parry is the much better trait imo, perfect parry just seems so situational, especially as it does nothing if the attack hits or if it doesnt have the reliable tag. At least with House Guard 2 you provide soft cover to your allies so reliable is more likely to miss.
What really makes it weird is its lack of mounts and it starts as a black witch so there's no real weapons you can use to inflict knockback until LL3 unless you smartly use the magnetic canon but thats so iffy to pull off. And since this is a base size 1 ramming may not be as consistent as you would like for knockback, but thankfully, Orchis is a black witch variant and thus gets FERROUS LASH which is amazing for knocking enemies into obstructions. But overall while this mech looks so cool and I love the Captain America theme of shield throwing there's just problems with it. If it was Size 2 by default your allies could use you as effective hard cover and it would have a better time ramming, if it had a heavy mount it could equip the Tempest Charge Blade and have a weapon that can deal knockback right out the gate (as of now it takes LL3 minimum to get any weapon with knockback on this mech).
I really really want to like this mech more, because I like its theme of being like a shield bearer, sticking next to its allies and protecting them from harm and I like the Caliban with its knockback shenanigans, knockback is fun! At least the Orchis is a variant of the black witch though because Ferrous Lash and Magnetic Shield are good for getting its special ability off, create your own obstruction and bash an enemy into it, thats a really cool combo. And since you are ideally sticking next to allies Black Ice Module is nice to help protect against Tech Attacks or use Iceout Drone for immunity. But I still just dont really like this variant that much despite how cool it looks. Anyways enough yapping here's the build:

Duelist 2, Juggernaut 2
[ LICENSES ]
SSC Black Witch 3, IPS-N Nelson 1,
IPS-N Drake 1, IPS-N Caliban 1

SPD:5 EVA:10 EDEF:12 SENS:10 SAVE:15
[ WEAPONS ]
Main/Aux Mount: War Pike (Supermassive Mod) / Tactical Knife // Overpower Caliber
[ SYSTEMS ]
Ferrous Lash, Magnetic Shield,
Black ICE Module, Argonaut Shield,
Armament Redundancy, Bulwark Mods
Even with all my problems with the Orchis, at LL6 you have plenty of options to make fun builds with it, as there are plenty of tools at your disposal to make the defensive and offensive capability better.
Going 3 licenses into ISPN was a given for Fomorian Frame, now its easy to provide Hard Cover for teammates and I can ram size 2 targets. Ferrous Lash and Magnetic shield provide a good combo for getting you shield throw off, Black ICE and Argonaut Shield allows me to defend teammates from all attacks and tech attacks as I stick next to their side.
For Weaponry the Warpike with Supermassive mod gives me good knockback at a good range since it can be thrown, and being able to overwatch with it is great. Hunter 1 lets me close gaps and get some free movement and hunter 2 lets me throw my spear without having to worry about picking it up. Duelist 2 gives me some good reactions, and Juggernaut enhances my rams when I boost beforehand and gives the rams the ability to knock 2 mechs prone or deal damage when they are knocked into an obstuction, which is something I want to be doing anyways. And Overpower Caliber for more damage is just always nice.
Orchis isnt a bad mech and since its shield throw doesnt have a range limit you are open for build customization, and with House Guard you apply Soft Cover to adjacent allies even if they cant use you for hard cover. But it definitely feels like a mech that needs to be at LL4-5 before it starts feeling good at what it does, before that I'd rather play Black Witch.

Homebrew Additional ways to homebrew planets?
Hello Lancers. Are there any other assets, tables, or content available for homebrewing planets, star systems, and sectors into lancer? It doesn't have to be lancer specifically, just ways to randomly generate planets from tables of info like the iterative worldbuilding. Thank you for any suggestions.

Question Can you make a Balor of the evil eye build?
I know the Horus Balor is named after the Balor from dungeons and dragons but I’m curious if it is possible to create “the evil eye” from the Irish mythology that can either and destroy anything caught in its gaze.

Homebrew Homebrew Passions?
I've only engaged with Lancer as a player so far but my last PC went out in such a spectacular fashion that I want to make a Passion based off of their "mythos", with the idea that they'll become a tangible Bond that any character in the far future could choose/be born to. I have the flavor and the gist of what their ideals are but I'm not sure where to start as far as quirks or Bond Powers. Have any of you homebrewed your own Passions before? What was the process like and how hard is it to make Bond Powers that are both balanced and not too similar to existing ones?
If anyone's curious this is the theme:
The Psychopomp
Those born under the Psychopomp always seek change, whether or not it's for the better. They understand that death is an opportunity for rebirth and destruction is the ultimate catalyst for strength. They act to guide themselves and others through radical trials that test their resolve, and ultimately help them cross over into a truer version of themselves.
[Basically, #1 priority is Change through any means, celebrating anything that challenges their sense of self, with death being the ultimate Change. Death in this case does often mean more metaphorical stuff like ego death or loss of innocence but also does just mean literal death sometimes, with the mindset that nothing can truly kill you unless you allow it to.]
Sample minor ideals:
- I changed somebody's mind on something they strongly believed.
- I destroyed something and then helped it renew.
- I made a difficult choice that tested my resolve.
- I left a piece of my old life behind, or helped somebody else to.
Imagery/themes associated with the PC that I'd like to/could use in some way:
- Mirrors/glass (especially stained glass)
- Butterflies (particularly purple and blue colored)
- Unblinking eyes, really big on staring into your soul
- Mazes
- the Take Control skill trigger (biiiig big one, pretty much all I ever used)
- Fear/torment, particularly psychological
- The Harlequin's Mockingbird power was an absolute staple for them but as much as I'd love to include it I'm not sure how I would without stepping on Harlequin, Fool, or Pathfinder's toes.
To a lesser extent:
- Spiders/spiderwebs
- Sunrise/sunset
- Was really into using dog terminology to refer to others for some reason
I've never really homebrewed before besides some stuff for D&D 5e years ago so I'm a little aimless rn when it comes to process. Any advice appreciated.
