Hello Everyone,
We have been noticing an uptick of posts describing body image/eating pathology.
And although we acknowledge that Kibbe can help with general body acceptance/image, this sub is not a substitution of mental health treatment and discussions of body/eating pathology can be triggering to others and will not be permitted.
Therefore, we have expanded rule 11 to include no discussions of body/eating pathology in addition to already forbidding measurements posted outside of height.
Discussions about how Kibbe has improved one's body images is fine as long as it does not veer into talking about body image or eating related pathology.
Thank you for your understanding and the consideration of others.
Warmly,
Your Mods

The book is out for a lot of you and not yet out for some others but since ppl have been asking we’ll work on the pinned post for discussion (whether this one or another). I’m personally curious to hear about your musings and discoveries myself!
✨Please be patient with us while we work on things ✨

There are conflicting reports of her height, but it seems she’s somewhere between 5’7”-5’8”.

I'm TR and I started noticing that she's wearing some outfits and clothes that could look good on me too. But I'm not entirely sure if this is still more SG style.

Hi. So recently I've been in Joost Klein's (dutch contestants on Eurovision 2024) rabbit hole. What surprised me, he has a long vertical line. Even when people are similar to his height he seems 'longer'.
What do you think? I'm guessing SD.

Hi!
Do any of you have any tips on the line drawing? I have read so many posts on this and nothing has resonated with me. I have read the book, done the excercises and I get totally stuck at this point. I’m not a fashion girly (I want to be)- I have no idea what suits me hence I hate my style and have been thinking about Kibbe types for a number of years. But silk chiffon? I dont even know how that would hang. I mean- I googled images of the fabric and have an idea- on me it would tent out from my bust in a very dramatic manor- it may or may not get pushed out by my hips too but honestly if it has zero shaping at all (like a bedsheet)- it is just going to billow around me like a parachute and I will totally disappear haha.
I’m also really struggling to see the difference between curve plus narrow, and curve plus petite, when you view them in isolation? And the shoulder lines are different for width than they are for everything else- so where do I draw them on me?
I have been circling this for a few weeks working up the courage to post. About a year ago I tried Chat GPT and started dressing in a the lines it recommended but that feels like dressing up to me. Some of it is fairly flattering and the soft fabrics have been a revelation- but I also look mumsy, wider, and unfinished. Even my fiancé brought this up the other day when I was talking to him about clothes- how I look like I’m trying to be fancy and 20 years older than I am- and everything I wear looks very average these days… which was the final nail in the coffin for me for soft classic!!
in spite of tiktok rediscovering our late diva de la banda, the one and only mariposa de barrio, i wanted to bring this underrated fashion icon (at least in the english speaking world) to the table.
from her beautiful mermaid cut gowns to her iconic y2k casual looks, this diva knew who she was until her last day, and she was never afraid to show that up, that bold, fun and brash side society was afraid to see in women.

feel like this one is almost too obvious. but it did get me thinking it would be interesting if some famous writers were verified. i think only sam shepard (who was of course a huge fan of beckett in both his writing and his image) is due to his film career.
i’ve seen joan didion and james baldwin discussed on here, and there are a great number of other 20th century writers who utilized a “star image” from ernest hemingway (HAS to be a FN, no?) to virginia woolf to toni morrison that could be easier to draw from than movie stars, more “regular” anyway.

David Kibbe has often expressed how contemporary celebrities do not have a star image the way Old Hollywood actors used to have and therefore are not ideal for inspiration. There are many reasons behind this, not just the fact that the studio system days are gone, but he also mentions things like celebrities nowadays constantly receiving brand deals and having to wear certain clothes, as well as designers being controlled by conglomerates to an extend. Basically the business side of fashion interfering with personal style. And in an interesting coincidence, I found an article written by Sofia Coppola in 2019 which talks about the same things (link here). This part was particularly relevant:
These days, many stylists are being paid by the brands they push, and some actresses regularly decide on a dress based on the fee they will receive to wear it. (Not that everyone does this, but it seems to have become the norm.) There are still some women out there with personal style {...} I love when you see an actress who looks like herself, even if her look isn’t perfect. But for the most part, stars are done up in a glamorously generic uniform—a look so professionally executed that real women could never come close to achieving it for a formal event in their lives.
I think we see more and more of this phenomenon nowadays, and less and less of actors who have a unique, trademark style, and their own star image. Sofia mentions Tracee Ellis-Ross, Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning as examples of modern stars with more personalised styles. There's probably more (the late great Diane Keaton was one, imo) but they are definitely the minority in the current red carpet landscape. I also thought it was interesting for Sofia Coppola to broach this topic because she is known for having a very specific and constant aesthetic for her own personal style (whether this is congruent with her ID or not is a different topic, but I still think it's interesting), and as a director she works with the visual arts, so I loved how her musings coincided with Kibbe's own musings on the same issue.

I made a Pinterest board for my mom who’s been struggling with finding the fun in her lines. Both verified and suspected Ds included!
Feel free to save it if you’d like :)
